Hi Jan--Hadn't heard this in awhile and as usual, the chills happen all over again and it's more incredible than I remembered. It'll hit the well deserved 3 Mill views very soon, let's just call this song for what it is--a legendary Masterpiece! The composition is sheer genius and Kanami's solo is so incendiary and wild. I was wondering what section you were talking about, oh yes--that melody Miku and Saiki are singing is so gorgeous--just sails over the music, it's heaven!

You can see Kanami and MISA dancing while playing the outtro part in the live performances and on Secret Maiko Lips MV as well.. I believe they are very happy while playing this song.

Jan-San, this was just about the time I discovered them, and hiding behind the scenes, have filmed videos and photos of them in my production company here in Japan, noo, I am not exclusive too them, but have contract work as videographer/photographer/sound/and lighting engineer here in Japan! And have worked/contracted with them many times since! That is why this song/ video, etc.. is Soo special too me and why I play it as a guitarist and drummer, nearly everyday! Now you know why!

@@SurvivebySacramento I will give you my thoughts. Sorry for being so long. First Akane is REALLY good. I mean, Really Really good. I was in high school band and also around many instruments so I know how they sound. Am not a drummer but dabbled in guitar, bass and clarinet (I do have guitars). So, I am very sensitive to good sound. And she has good sound first of all. 2nd is that her techniques are really awesome. Then, she has the groove a top drummers would have. I am usually listening to the bass and guitar lines but when I just shift my listening to the drum line of Akane, I am like, damn she is amazing. I know, I can hear it. So, good sound is that she has that crisp drum sound that I love. Many drummers, when I hear them, I am like meh.. The way I see it, the first thing you have to have is a good snare sound. Listen to this (it does depend on how it was recorded but still...) I recommend earphones -- from here. (Kara's "Runaway) - listen from 0:30 min point. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nZp8payVnJzUqp8.html You will hear that distinct snare sound. I love that sound. That's not from Studio programs like Ableton. You see, most of modern pop music? Most are all done with music software (not with real session musicians - they cost too much). So, I was really surprised when Kara's song (I know, an idol group) had a real drummer and that snare had the sound that I missed in so many years in pop music. (You won't find a real snare in 99% of KPOP songs, or any pop songs). It's very different from your typical muddy, thudding snare. I hate most of the pop drum sounds because I miss that real, attack snare sound from live sessions. And, yeah, it cost so much to use session players. Most extreme example is that Tears for Fears spent $1 million pound on their full album "The Seeds of Love" in 1989. That's right, $1 million pounds. Well, that's a bit excessive and I think they went over board. You can say, 'but hard rock and metal is different. They are bands, and they all play themselves.' True. But, I am not comparing her to other hard rock and metal bands drummers. Hear this - Police "Roxanne" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/abphlpp40OC2gYU.html (Do you hear that snare and hi-hat?) It's an old recording, though. Still, you can hear that clear snare and hi-hat sound. One of the most intense drummer in rock history (Stuart Copland , some say an asshole, same for Andy Summers and Sting - all assholes - they say, but oh boy, are they good. They had numerous fist flying, balls to the wall fights because one didn't like other's playing - yeah - they really, literally, physically fought a lot). (I know it's studio recording, and it's 5 years ago). Hi-hat sound is the 2nd sound I look for a good drummer. Most drummers? Ehh... it's really hard to have a great, crisp, distinct hi-hat sound. I am telling you, you will know when you hear it. Plus, you have to have that steady clock like beats. Actually, it's the most basic sound, snare and hi-hat but, most of them just sound okay. Arghh. Many times, the recordings are problem, too but still, most drummers leave me with ehhh. But, just listen to her on "Choose Me" or "Alone" which are more poppy rock / rather than more metal like Secret My Lips. You can hear her so clearly. it's wonderful. Then, you need the bass drum sound - the driving beat. Akane uses double bass- staple of metal music. But, she doesn't just go all out double bass all the time. She and Kanami must talk a lot about that because, their composing is really really top notch. Akane uses it very effectively to give the songs the drive they need at the right points. Lastly, she has the groove. That's the hardest to learn or teach, I think. You will hear it when she is doing the double bass but it's not just monotonous drone. She's always has something going on and double bass will do fills and change to different style. There are top drummers who can do all those mentioned here. And she can do it all. Just watch "secret MY Lips" Live on youtube. And just concentrate on her playing. You will be amazed. It's not the same as this video here which is from their Official Channel. There are fast players and hard players. But, the hardest is to make the drum sound so crisp and distinct you can hear each beat of the drum and the hi-hat even with the bass and guitar shredding. And the bass drum beat driving the whole ensemble. That's a great drummer. As you know, the drum is most taxing thing to play. It's not just hard on women. It's hard on men, too. So, that's why when we see Akane playing at such top level, we go gaga. edit. added D'sound i.e. and cleaned up a few grammar.

@@motrs1206 Live is entirely different from having time in a studio to take breaks and repeat sections if you screw up. Playing almost non-stop for an hour in a live performance will sound different for any drummer. She's amazing either way, give her some credit.

Me too. It actually almost brings tears to my eyes. It's such a beautifully perfect part. It's an Anthem of sorts. Anyone who understands the feeling that part brings understands my comment.

I well remember the discussion even at the end of 2018 that Akane's foot pedal work could not be real and was helped along production-wise. Now I had been to their concert in Amsterdam shortly before, where they played this song and was recorded by Vladimir Chupin alongside almost all the others. So I sent the link of the Secret-my-Lips video to the people in question, where you can clearly see how the cable twitches with every beat, because the microphone was lying inside the bass drum on a cushion.

If I recall correctly, we have Akane's Mom and Dad to thank for encouraging her musical pursuits despite a promising career as a hairdresser! I'd love to meet them and thank them!

Exactly! Little Akane is the hardest working drummer as nearly all BAND_MAID songs are faster than a standard 4-4 beat.

I 100% understand. It is such a great part. It gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it. I cannot get enough of BAND-MAID. I listen to them basically every minute I'm awake. And the way Miku looks while she's singing that part... She is SO beautiful. They are all so talented. I'm so happy they made this band together and they continue to stay together. I found them about 7 years ago because of BABYMETAL. Also a year or so ago found LOVEBITES. They're incredible too. But BAND-MAID is so special. I'd give anything to see BABYMETAL, BAND-MAID & LOVEBITES go on tour together. Each band do a full 2 hour set lol. Be the best 6 hours on Earth.
