ABOUT BARNEY MILLER: Show synopsis: Captain Barney Miller is the patient and wise catalyst who must interact not only with his staff, but with the volatile mixture of malefactors and weirdos who stream through 12th Precinct headquarters. Barney's staff of detectives bring their own personalities to the chemistry: There's naive Wojehowicz, sophisticated and ambitious Harris, and Dietrich, given to arcane Freudian explanations. One of my favorite episodes. Some of the best lines, "Look who got picked up for shoplifting Dr. Strangelove", what do you do for a living "I'm getting married", "Marty's not going to kill you, take you to dinner maybe", " she's older than my mother", " you didn't even frisk him "I didn't have the nerve", " I won't book you but I'm going to have to hold you, just a police expression", " Who's that, the way things are today it's liable to be the chief of police". " quick someone take my gun away", "Marty was a funny character, and I wish Cogan was in more. Such a great show when you could laugh at anything.

They originally planned for the show to be a mix of police and home life, then it all moved to the station house. They had to create really bad reasons to get Barbara Barrie into the storylines, like this one. She comes to the station for tax questions? They eventually just dropped her in Season 2.

Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
