I'm (finally!) going to post some sort of regular tips related to baroque improvisation, here is the first video.
I show some sort of classification of thinking-modes during improvisation, that can help us structure the upcoming discussions and tips:
I've also written a summary on my blog at: borogrove.org/
For now, the blog is quite empty, but I expect to post thing there that could be more difficult to just talk about in a video (for instance, if I need a written diagram, music score, etc..).
I hope you enjoy! I have recorded the first followup discussion video already, so it should come in just a few days at most :-)
Cheers!

Awesome! Many thanks for the feedback; There's really not much on there for now, but I'll use it to post things that could be harder to discuss in a video-format, as well as complementary notes for videos :-) Cheers!

I watched to the end. I was amazed by how simple your advice is. Of course, like a lot of things in music a simple concept takes a lot of time to learn to execute. I picked a simple pattern and was able to extend it in a mechanical way just by making a effort to do it. I also tried taking a nice starting melody with one hand a just trying to vary it in interesting ways. I think I got an excellent start. I was surprised at how easy it was. Looking forward to seeing more. Alex in Florida, USA PS: I think you are a programmer, yes?

When you say cadenza. You are really meaning a cadence. A cadenza is a flashy segment to demonstrate skill in a concerto. Like the crazy part in bwv 1052 3rd movement. Where the orchestra stops and the keyboard goes off for a bit. A cadence is a two chord conclusion of a statement.

Love your videos, your attitude and your facility. I've been developing methods for teaching Baroque improvising since the corona lockdowns started, and your videos have been one source of inspiration. Thanks! Just an aside: the left-hand Bach Chaconne arrangement is by Brahms, the Busoni version is definitely for two hands! Cheers!

@14:00 You are right; such passages are many times played with 'great emotion'; but people actually like it. Personally as you, I don't like it neither. @20:00 it's actually originally BWV 1004; chaconne for violin Good video!
