I'm not a Tigers fan, but as soon as I saw the title of this video I immediately had flashbacks to Galarraga. Poor guy's always gonna have an asterisk on him, but let's be real -- we all know he did it. He really did pitch a perfect game. And then after he was robbed of that because of somebody else's mistake, he responded with grace and empathy. Much respect to that dude.

I feel bad for Joyce. I didn't always, but time and understanding have lead me to see the whole picture, and I just feel bad for him. He was a damn good umpire who made the wrong call and it haunts him every day after that. Hearing about how he met with Gallaraga later that night and couldn't do anything but weap and apologize... that's not a guy who deserves the death threats and verbal abuse. Save those for Angel Hernandez 😉

The blown call at 6:21 almost cost the Giants the World Series. The Giants only clinched a postseason spot in the last game of the season. The Padres took the first two games of that last series against the Giants, so the Giants would have clinched a postseason spot an entire series before the end of the season.

It’s kinda sad that Joyce’s credibility has plummeted over one miscall, I honestly don’t blame him because hindsight is 20/20. No matter how much of a good ump you are, you are going to miss one call at some point. He apologized afterwards and hopefully Detroit forgives him for it cause no one is perfect (kind of ironic I know).
