This is the pre video before the setup and sound test. We discuss the specs of these two cabinets, ergonomics, and do a demo lifting from the ground to speaker. Lets face it, we have to lift these every week and at 60 plus pounds, easier is better.

Hello nice video. So would you say it’s worth getting the bass boss over the RCF? For loud and clean. Also how many amp does it needs to plug on a breaker? Thank you.
@FinestEventss
@FinestEventss Жыл бұрын
They are both great speakers, I don't think you would be disappointed with either. I think you should decide on which type of dispersion you prefer? The RCF is narrow and the Bassboss is 120 degrees. They both get loud and are clean. I personally use the DV12 MK2 now and I cannot say how many you can put on a breaker. They are very efficient and pulled less power than my Evox 8's when I measured them on my amp meter. They also can be crossed over at 4 preset points. The more low end you take out the more you can run (This is when you run with subs). Hope that helps.

@FinestEventss
@FinestEventss 2 жыл бұрын
I pulled those specs from their site at the time of this review. Not sure why the discrepancy now but when I just rechecked, you are correct. A little over 57. Easier to manage because of the handle placement. Ergonomically speaking they are much better than the Bassboss, even the MK2 version of the DV 12.

As far as sending 600 watts RMS to a tweeter, there is no reason why you can't just use a heavily limited amp - the purpose simply to keep the signal as clean as possible for sound quality (low THD and peak clipping) reasons - even if in practice, you are using no more than 100 watts of it. I'd like to compare the Bass Boss with a Barefaced FR800.
@lapocasini1246
@lapocasini1246 Жыл бұрын
Yep, folks who want a full blown DV 12 experience, might need to eq it, at 26 lbs (passive) the Barefaced Big Baby 3 is the cabinet. The powered version (FR800) was discontinued.

Did you match gain? Have the speakers volumes all the way down and turned off. Bring the boards output level to +12dbu with Pink Noise. Turn on 1 speaker and bring its volume up on the back until the limit light just starts to flash and turn it off and don't touch the volume knob again on the speaker. Next do the other speaker the same way and again don't touch its volume knob again. Don't change the boards +12 dbu output when setting these gains for both speakers. With this done both speakers will reach full output with the same input. Of course you can turn the board down now and do your testing. If both speakers are not gain matched.(input sens.) Then one may be louder than the other but will reach full output first which is not an accurate test. This at least will get you in the ball park. ( Of course if +12dbu is too much with the speakers volume all the way down you can lower your boards output some. Again the idea is to have both speakers reach full output at the same time with the same signal.)
@FinestEventss
@FinestEventss 4 жыл бұрын
This is what we did. We let both limit lights flash a bit while testing just to keep things equal. The DV12 recently had a DSP update. It sounds even better now. Be sure to watch video 3 and you will see the results. Thanks for watching!

@@FinestEventss Only one thing to consider. 2 different brands of speakers may have completely different idea's as to what goes on during limit. In some brands the limiter also effects the frequency response and spl broad band too. Also how those limiters are setup for each bandpass and how they react to music could be different also. In general once you setup for unity as I mentioned above you can then turn down the mixer and test the speakers 10 db's or so below limit. The SPL will have the same difference between the 2 speakers but the spl and frequency response will not include the limiter section effect on the output. As we all know if your running a speaker into limit you don't have a large enough system. Set unity between the 2 speakers at limit then drop the main's down and compare from there. Also next time check both speakers off axis at the same degrees off. Check both at 45 and both at 60 ( I'd have to watch the video again to see if it was 60 degrees ) A better reference to compare the two. Overall Great Work! Keep them coming. I would again setup unity then lower the output on the board so both speakers are no longer into limit. Just mute the board when switching between them and be sure to leave the boards output and volume on the back of the speakers untouched. This will show the correct volume difference. A small difference by the person turning up the speaker in back, speaker to speaker, measurement to measurement could easily throw the measurements off. Also place a single speaker at a time in the measurement location. Ported boxes resonate at a given frequency when soundwaves hit them. A speaker close to another speaker not putting out sound could resonate and this sound may cause low frequency content to come out. This added spl may be out of phase and cancel some frequencies with the speaker being tested. Its possible to have 2 different speakers with different phase responses to really cancel output in a given range. By testing 1 speaker at a time and having the other one covered or on the floor face down will help keep this problem from skewing the test results. You've done so much work you might as well get it as close as possible. Thumbs up!

@@douglasallen534 that took a lot of my time and I can tell you I just don't have the time to go run it all back. I also had to get clearance from the venue for a day, not to mention I have to send the Demo unit back. All I can say is I've listened to both, run pink noise while taking the best and most fair measurements I could in a real world scenario, and listened off axis. Ill personally stick with Bassboss. The DV12 sounds more to my liking and the dispersion is great for what I do. The 12 inch driver has an incredible amount of low end compared to the RCF when they are both compared in full range and doesn't have such a harsh sound at high volumes. Im not saying the TT is a bad speaker, its just not as good as the DV12 in my opinion. To each his own. Do yourself a favor if you are interested in either of these speakers, go listen for yourself. It wasn't an easy task as these models aren't sitting in your local guitar center, but I am very happy I did because I let my ears make the decision and not the specs released by the companies.

Lol... most people, including myself, would disagree with you. With the MK2 version of this its not even comparable. This particular RCF has little low end and the high end is boosted. RCF must pair with a sub where the Bassboss has a much flatter response within its advertised frequency range and can respectably hold its own without a sub. There really is no comparison and bassboss does it with smaller drivers.
