It's why something like JLA: Act of God is so hated, because it fails to recognize this. There are a few stories of Superman losing his powers and still persevering, sometimes by Clark Kent using his journalism career to fight crime and corruption. Courage and character are about how you act when you have something to lose.

The one DC show i'm still watching since Arrow ended is Legends of Tomorrow, and that is because that show is completely self aware of how jank it is and just has fun with it. Flash and Supergirl i watched for quite a while, but without Arrow (which went on for waaaay too long as well) i just can't even bring myself to bother anymore with any of it.

They all use a similiar formula and Arrow is the only one that I watched till the fourth season. But after The Climb episode that went downhill fast as well.
