I agree for the most part about the ineffective Red Guardian. However, his alter ego Alexei Shostakov does complete his mission in the opening scenes and is instrumental in his sleeper family's rousing escape from America to Cuba. Did they lobotomize him in that Russian prison?! His character completely changed after 21 years. His total ineptitude and buffoonery! Regardless I think a Black Widow film should been made just after Captain America - Civil War and included Hawkeye with Natasha explaining Budapest in flashback to Yelena. We should be getting a Black Widow 2 now, and Natasha's return from the dead via Tony Stark's finger snap. There's room for more than one Black Widow.

On a stupider note, apparently a Tony Stark cameo was cut bc they didn't want the male avengers involved. However, if you're like me, you were hoping that a Black Window film could lend the character that strength and depth. If done right, it could have made Natasha's sacrifice in Endgame far more emotional. Sadly, this film is too late AND too little.

When I think of female strength and deadly cunning I think of that opening scene in GoldenEye with Pierce Brosnan where the villainous cracks the old military guys back and ribs suffocating him while smiling. That scene scared me like it was supposed to and gave her character a sinister aura that's hard to create but once it's there it doesn't go away. That's the type of "femme fatale" most effective on screen. Captain Marvel showed too much strong mental fortitude while leaving out physicality. It's easy to ruin a character either way with too much of one without the other. Is anyone else able to think of a female villain they were actually intimidated/impressed with? I'm curious to who gets mentioned now since I haven't ever thought about it.

this movie is just a vehicle for the 'new' Black Widow, Helena, for the M-She-U, just as 'Loki' was the vehicle for the new female Loki, who will no doubt appear, like Helena, in the Second Phase movies. A Second Phase which will feature Female Thor (already announced to be played by Natalie Portman), female Hawkeye (Kate Whatshername), Kamala Khan (a movie will no doubt be released later this year) and female Iron Man (it's a toss up between Pepper or some random Female of Diversity). @Smallpotato1965 You are on point with that theory; Disney will bring about their own undoing with this SJW propaganda~ In fact, I am convinced that if Pepper Potts isn't chosen as the next "Iron Woman", then Disney will commit to using the character known as Iron Heart as Pepper's replacement~ If they do use Iron Heart, then I will be laughing my butt off at how incredibly bad those productions will end up being~

@Xavier Rodriguez Since you asked, I'll tell you why I think that it is going to be bad: I've researched Iron Heart's backstory and what I've found was very disappointing. Iron Heart, A.K.A. Riri Williams, basically stole Tony Stark's Iron Man Suit, reprogrammed and restructured it somehow, and made it better than Tony Stark could, all at the incredibly immature age of 15 years ago~ Furthermore, if that wasn't impossible enough already, her story-line is full of SJW propaganda that makes her character development completely shallow. I could go on with additional reasons, but I think that you will already understand what I mean~
@rossdavis428
@rossdavis428 3 жыл бұрын
@Xavier Rodriguez I've watched reviews on Black Widow and found that it was also full of SJW propaganda; Ex. Taskmaster, who was suppose to be a man, was retconned into being a woman because Modern Marvel loves pushing SJW propaganda more so than logical story-lines. Furthermore: - Marvel did the same thing in Loki (retconned him into a bisexual when he isn't in the mythology), - Marvel made Scarlet Witch incredibly crazy and selfish in WandaVision, when Vision already taught her to be more selfless; so, Marvel retconned that character development. - Marvel made Falcon and the Winter Soldier with so much heavy-handed SJW propaganda that the show's audience rates dropped drastically after each new SJW insertion. You are not dumb, buddy; Marvel is just confusing you and rest of the standard audience on purpose~ They want you to be so confused by their brainwashing that you just give-in and believe that their propaganda is a good thing, when it is the exact opposite. Personally, I believe that it is 100% terrible! But, of course, you can choose to like whatever you want to~ However, I suggest that you do not trust Modern Marvel so easily; Endgame was retconned into a SJW narrative thanks to Modern Marvel, when it should have been a master-piece like Infinity War was~ Nonetheless, all that information is something that I leave in the past; I only watch the future now, and prepare for the worst that Marvel can possibly make~

What amazes me is how people seem to miss what the Red Guardian symbolizes in this movie and why he acts the way he does. It wasn't a character arc, it wasn't because he was in prison. He is in the movie to symbolize all male superheroes up until now: clumsy, stupid, pointless, obsolete. The Black Widows represent the superheroes of tomorrow: strong, agile, smart, women. The new phase 4 with this film as well as the trailer for "she hulk" appear to be sjw tag lines and woke philosophy turned up to the max while shoving down the hero aspect so much it doesn't even register the sense of awe usually achieved with marvel movies. The days of the "M-she-U" opposed to the "M.C.U." is in full effect. Disney's marketing and G rated campy designs have been on full display ever since Endgame and it's not going away anytime soon. That's exactly the point though. There isn't an outside audience who sees what Nat does in this movie besides "us" the audience. In world, sure what she's doing should absolutely be judged. No where in the movie does the movie itself say she's a hero for that. If people watching the movie can't see that then they just aren't watching the movie and aren't following/understanding the perspectives of characters in the universe. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with the idea that Nat deserves recognition or solace after her actions. Most of her story goes out of its way to describe her as someone who's making up for her last anyway. It's subjective. It's one characters journey and perspective. And it's up to you entirely to decide if you want them to succeed or fail.

For me it was 100% improbable that a man who was essentially an alternate Captain America in moves and power level could have been locked up in what looked like a pretty normal prison (even if it was in a freezing tundra). It should have been a Russian version of Shields maximum security super prison barge featuring specialized cells. This plus the tattoos to me was just done to stamp home that he was a vulgar idiot to be laughed at. The escape sequence were he mostly breaks free and trough safety glass and doors in seconds and then just stands there after the girl squad arrived was just infuriating. The guy he was at the the start would have started planning his escape to take revenge on who betrayed him as soon as he woke up in lock up. Also why did they show him taking the toy with him then if they never referred to it again? Would have been a good "I sacrificed it all for Russia, but never forgot you" moment if he still had the thing in the present day. Same with the toy Nat gives to her sister.

It seems unlikely and improbable to me that Red Guardian (Cap’s Russian counterpart) would have gotten fat. Even if it wasn’t Erskine’s formula, Alexei still would have been an enhanced individual and wouldn’t have gotten fat so easily. I also want to know how she got away from Ross the end of the movie as that seemed like a pivotal moment, but the movie didn't even show us. There's an anime, that I forgot the name of that takes place in a fictional ancient China. The main character is a girl from a minor noble family with some minor aspirations to move above her status BUT not rejecting that she is a woman with limits of upward mobility. She is very intelligent and very aware of the world around her. There's a great story arc where she decided to participate in the scholar's exam, that even the smartest men had trouble getting into because of the intense demand of your intelligence. She being a woman is obviously looked down upon but it doesn't put her down. She had determination. There is a scene before she went to take the exam that illustrate woman vs men. A friend of her, who is a courtesan puts some makeup on her, touch up her face a bit to make her presentable. The girl asked why and the courtesan replied, that THIS is a woman's armor for when they go to war. The lesson is that no matter what you do, don't forget what you are. It literally takes what Tyrion said in GoT "Never forget who you are, because the world surely won't. Wear it like armor and it can never be used against you."

Honestly with how Black Widow and Hawkeye where shoved into Iron Man 2 and Thor it's clear that the original plan for Phase One was for Ant Man and Wasp to be introduced in the originally planned 2009 Ant Man movie by Edger Wright and having the Avengers be the original members of the team similar to the original formation in the comics.

I was looking forward to listening to the review. I have to say I am surprised. I found it neither dull nor boring. I did not find it particularly WOKE movie either. Yes, it did address some topical matters. However, I do not think it was trying to be offensive and not was it ham-fisted in how it handled it. For a contrast, Here is my movie review. I care about movies that cause me to think and feel for what is happening. The Black widow movie did this. That is why I care for this story about the rediscovery of family and overcoming your past to save today. I was crying 15 mins into the movie. Just think what happens. Two girls living an “ideal “ American life are: Forced to flee at a moment’s notice with few of their treasures. Forced to leave in a hail of bullets that seriously wound their mother. Forced to leave their parents with no warning. Forced to be pawns by people who care nothing for them. Imagine what it would be like to be those children. Is their plight not worth crying over? The modern Natasha position in life is not much better. She has been forced to flee and to hide. She has lost her new family, and her failures loom large over her. But all is not lost. She finds she does have a sister that she can depend on. She finds around the kitchen table that her “fake family”, in their own strange way, love each other. And so the fightback starts. And I was crying at the end. And why not? In the end, she was standing victorious. She had her family back. She had brought justice to those who abused her. She had addressed some of the red in her ledger. And she was returning to bring her other family together Is that not something worth crying with joy about? Few movies are without weaknesses. It has the usual Marvel problem of a weakly designed villain who wants to rule the world. The big set fights are surprisingly uninspiring, and this very human Avenger should probably die at least 3 times in the movie. But they do not take away from what we learn about Natasha. What do we learn about Natasha? She is a hero who thinks and feels. She is a hero who uses her skills and brains to outwit and outplay her opponents. She is the toughest girl in the world who has been made stronger by the pain she has endured. And she makes this movie wonderful.

I appreciated that every villain (even Spidey's own stint as a villain in the third film) had a chance for redemption, and most of them even took the chance instead of dying in despair. I know this comment isn't very related to the video. I just like watching good, well-written movies.

Black Widow was a brilliant character, played to perfection and one of the key figures in the MCU. Certainly the key female figure. She deserved a real movie with Budapest/Hawkeye/Winter Soldier. That film, if made to the best of MCU standards, would have been brilliant. Instead we got the Florence Pugh origin story. Disagree with your characterization of her power too. Think of this: Hawkeye, with morals off under mind control, nearly took down an entire heli-carrier with some of the most powerful Avengers onboard. Leading little more than a SWAT team he tears through that SHIELD ship mercilessly. The same guy chops through an entire troop of Thanos demons in Endgame. He was also the only one to avoid Wanda's mind-control in Ultron. We're talking the baddest of badasses here. And who go the best of him not once but twice? Natasha. She's a living weapon and beyond dangerous.

@Mike S What exactly is BS? If Chris Hemsworth wasn't hot nobody would care. See how easy that was? And if you don't think BW and Hawkeye were integral to plot lines then you really weren't paying attention. ScarJo is excellent in the role and conveyed character development over movies with depth and nuance.

@Mike S And nobody ever gave a flying rat's ass about Thor before the MCU... except comic book nerds. Ditto Captain America and Iron Man. If Thor was played by Jonah Hill nobody would care. They care because he's hot. Exactly the same as Black Widow. The only thing I'm showing is that you can use your "logic" to describe most of the MCU. ScarJo sold Natasha just like Hemsworth sold Thor and Evans sold Cap.

I disagree, she did warrant having her own film. The thing is, it should have been an origins one, like Captain America's, and certainly deserved a better story than what the movie ended up getting.

I heard the Red Room did have male supersoldiers they were called Wolf Spiders but the main focus was on the female assassins the Black Widows. I like to think Loki let Natasha think she fooled him he is the God of Mischief he knows the art of manipulation he's been doing it for centuries. What they should've done was give Natasha her own TV series she's got a rich history on the small screen we the audience would've gotten to see Natasha's life, her relationship with Yelena, her life as a spy & assassin.

I pictured the red room being somewhere deep in the mountains kind of like how Witchers trained at Kaer Morhen. Just some place away from civilization that you'd never find without a guide. Like are there just too many places in the mountains it had to be a floating base? I'd even settle for an ocean based red room that would've been cool too.

The be fair, the last boss' comments about the overabundance of "Girls" as a resource is factual and accurate. (If you're talking about China, to name a famous example...) Doesn't apply to the West at all though, where the last century of girls and women are the most privileged demographic to have ever walked the Earth.
@remo27
@remo27 3 жыл бұрын
China is facing such a severe shortage of girls that they are openly encouraging intermarriage and resettelization amongst some of their surplus male population in places like Africa (the One Child policy as well as men being more valuable traditionally on farms so female infanticide is the reason for this), so I'm not understanding your comment.

@@savagetv6460 your reason for calling Black Widow a Mary Sue isn't my reason for calling Rey a Mary Sue. Black Widow fucking died, And has way more character than what you'd give a Mary Sue, Mary Sue's are loved by everyone but their enemies, they don't have flaws, they always Win, they come out of situations without a scratch, they get their Powers handed to them, like in the Sequel trilogy Novels, they explain that she gets powers from other force users by just touching them, that's a fuckin Mary Sue power Bs. Compared to that Black Widow is more likable.

Remember when Loki said that Natasha had a book full of red...a book that had drakovs daughter in it and how guilty Natasha felt about that daughter and what she did to her. Well it was real nice to find out that that was all a lie and Natasha wasn't the best spy ever but was instead an inept idiot who did nothing because her book really wasn't all that red at all.

What completely took me out of this movie was the things that Natasha survives in this movie. She's basically Steve Rogers or Tony Stark with his Iron Man suit when you look at all the things she survives, especially that fall from that chimney tower (or whatever it was). Mauler did a 4 hour review of this movie and I have to agree with him.
