If anyone wants to know why Prince Adam was so cold hearted and bad tampered, he was very lonely and had no friends at all, despite having his servants in his castle. But imagine if Prince Adam and Belle were childhood sweethearts and she helped him change his ways prior to his transformation to a Beast, maybe he could’ve been a better person.

Once upon a time, in a faraway land, a young Prince lived in a shining castle. Although he had everything his heart desired, the Prince was spoiled, selfish, and unkind. But then, one winter's night, an old beggar woman came to the castle and offered him a single rose In return for shelter from the bitter cold. Repulsed by her haggard appearance, the Prince sneered at the gift, and turned the old woman away. But she warned him not to be deceived by appearances, for Beauty is found within. And when he dismissed her again, the old woman's ugliness melted away to reveal a beautiful Enchantress.The Prince tried to apologize, but it was too late. For she had seen that there was no love in his heart. And as punishment,, SHE TRANSFORMED HIM INTO A HIDEOUS BEAST, and placed a powerful spell on the castle, and all who lived there. ASHAMED, of his monstrous form, the beast concealed himself inside his castle with a magic mirror as his only window to the outside world. The Rose she had offered, was truly an enchanted rose, which would bloom untill his 21st year ("For many years" in the stage musical). If he could learn to love another, and earn her love in return by the time the last petal fell, then the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time. As the years passed, he fell into despair, and lost all hope... ...for who could ever learn to love...a Beast?

...it gets even more disturbing when you do the math: -he’s been cursed for 10 years, with the year Belle enters the scene being the tenth year of the curse before it’s officially permanent -the prologue clearly states that the rose will only bloom until his 21st birthday until everyone under the curse is “doomed” -Ie, he was cursed at 11 -He went through puberty while under the curse, as well as several growthspurts (why he can’t hold something as small as a spoon anymore. He just couldn’t keep up with his shifting dexterity, and didn’t “have to” anyway) -his parents/family are NEVER mentioned. Either he’s an orphan (possibly recently), or a “hidden heir”. Either way that will wreck HAVOCK on your mental/emotional health -he has servants. Why didn’t any of them answer the door? So...we’re left with a sorceress who’s looking for trouble who decides to bait a lonely and functionally orphaned kid, over the holidays, when winter/holidays often bring out the worst when it comes to mental health flareups/isolation, grief, and loneliness. Classic case of “blame the victim”. (This in no way excuses his bad behavior at any given point in either the original movie or the midquel. But, it isn’t baseless, especially with someone like that organist intentionally manipulating him)
@anonymousfellow88795 жыл бұрын
...then there’s also that most men during that time period didn’t go looking for brides until they were well over 18. So, if he’s turning 21 in BatB, that means he technically only had maybe three years to try...which he did. The servants discuss there being “other ones” (Although, what happened to them? What were those attempts like? Why wasn’t the “haunted castle” a known urban legend? Were these other candidates before Belle from other local villages...like the one where Maurice originally intended to travel for the invention competition at their fair?)

@lukasmiller4866 ай бұрын
Usually Disney sequels have a bad reputation for being shoddy and made for money but this is one time when I think a sequel worked. It develops Adam more as a character because it shows how conquering his temper and vindictiveness didn’t happen overnight so his eventual redemption in the end of the original film feels more real. Also Adam having an evil counselor pretending to be his friend makes for a great conflict because it explains where some of his mind poisoning originated during the time he was a beast. Their dynamic is a lot like Othello and Iago in the Shakespeare play. Having Adam repent of his cruelty towards Belle over Christmas and defeat Forte serves to strengthen their love because by conquering his dark side and defeating his enemy he becomes a better version of himself.

I know he was being too harsh to her but this could arguably be justified. Think about it, Snow White learned (the hard way in fact) that you can't always trust strange old ladies, let alone accept gifts from them, especially in a world where Sorcery and Witchcraft exist. The enchantress must be like Judge Frollo from Hunchback. She wants to make the world a better place but the measures she's taking are only working against her goal. Is she just gonna waste her time cursing every jerk in world? She'd be France's Most Wanted if she was doing this very often.

If Gaston and the villagers had ever learned about the origin of the Beast with the magic mirror that Bella had used to prove to them that he is real, there's no doubt that they still would've disapproved of her falling in love with him and still would've wanted him dead.
@siphonophores7 ай бұрын
Pretty sure even if the villagers would understand and help Prince Adam. Gaston would definitely try to kill him as he wanted Belle for himself.
@TDKiller4157 ай бұрын
I think a book called The Beast Within established that the spell erased the villagers' memories of the royal family and that Adam and Gaston were actually childhood friends who didn't remember each other. The remake kind of used that concept and showed that the servants had family in the village and they all remembered each other the second the spell broke, like Cogsworth and his wife.
@TDKiller4157 ай бұрын
@@siphonophores I think the main reason Gaston wanted to kill the Beast was as the ultimate trophy, and partly out of jealousy, because he knew that Belle would never choose him either way.

It would've been nice had the Enchantress returned and turned Gaston into a beast. Like maybe through the movie, a peasant woman tells Gaston(continuously) that Belle doesn't love him and that he should give up and even change his ways but Gaston refuses to listen. Then after the beast becomes human. Gaston(not falling to his death) is prepared to kill the prince saying Belle belongs only to him and will kill any who stand in his way. The prince is still a little weak from the fight but then the woman appears again and says, "Such behavior and language. A hunter now wanting to hunt a person." Gaston warns her to back off or he'll kill her, too. He has every right to have Belle as his wife. She reveals her true form, the enchantress who the prince and his servants quickly recognize. She freezes Gaston in place. Enchantress: Having a wife is a privilege, Gaston not a right. Gaston: I defeated a beast, I can get past you.(struggling) Enchantress: You have killed many beasts, Gaston but still not the biggest one of all, the one inside of you. I believe the beastliness that people have inside of them can turn to beauty if they open themselves up and learn what beauty and love is. (points to the prince) Some people can be saved before it's too late. I give everyone a fair, sporting chance. But the others like you who refuse to change, well, they have to start over in a life that suits their undying beastliness. Gaston is transformed into a beast and runs off. When the villagers see him, they think he's the beast come to kill and start chasing him with hunting devices.

When I saw this during an ABC broadcast of the movie in December 1998 (without actually thinking about the movie), I thought that what happened was that the spell broke and then they fell back under it. But upon seeing it on DVD, I found out that this scene was a flashback.
@alexanderpytko53945 жыл бұрын
I know some wonder why all the servants had to be placed under the spell, too. In the Broadway musical, Cogsworth says, "Why did we have to get dragged into this spell? It was the master not us who turned that old beggar woman away." Lumiere points out, "But we are responsible for helping making him the way he is," and Cogsworth says, "I suppose that's true." They did spoil him, always letting him have his way and didn't try to get him to change his ways.

SIMPLE & REAL EXPLANATION, READ: 1. These were Beast memories - being cursed for 10 years, and Belle arriving in the last/final year (maybe few months more to distinguish Christmas from his 21st bday) - OF COURSE HE CAN'T REMEMBER EVERYTHING FROM 9 YEARS AGO! (try it yourself!) - including Enchantress asking again, and him apologizing to her 2. Stained glass windows from the first movie (telling the story as it really was) WERE PLACED IN A CASTLE AFTER THE CURSE WAS ALREADY BROKEN (because at the end we witness Belle & Prince in a window) - probably ordered to be built by Cogsworth, who was the main servant, and Cogsworth being already adult and mature at the time when it happened he remembered the situation far better than the very young prince (so he narrated the story too) 3. You shouldn't hate this so much - because as a kids WE ALL WANTED to see how they looked before the curse, including Enchantress, but in this 'normal character' version rather than that of stained glass. 4. This version is actually the base of the live-action intro, in which Prince is having a party, sitting on a throne and organ/piano is playing - interrupted by the old beggar woman, also the Enchantress shining and holding a rose in the middle.

The Enchantress cursed Adam's servants because they were enabling his bad behavior. They knew he was being a brat, but were too afraid of losing their jobs to stop him. Since they cared more about the money than Adam they were turned into objects. Even after the transformation they were utterly terrified of Adam. Belle was special because she wasn't afraid to stand up to him.

Which is exactly what the villagers do with Gaston: Caress his ego and tell him what he wants to hear. It's a good thing the Enchantress cursed the Prince, because it obligated him to confront his flaws by force and because she saved the kingdom from being ruled by somebody like Gaston.

He said ten years we've been rusting but just because the curse lasted that long doesnt mean they AGED at all. :D The curse could have frozen everybody in time. Including the prince. The reason why he looks so scrawny here could be because of how spoiled he was. Having everything brought to him and whatnot. However, after living as a beast he of course had to do things himself. That's also why it seems like none of the objects got older from this clip as well. :D

If Chip was aged somewhere between 4 to 6 years old at the time the Enchantress cast the spell on them, shouldn't he be aged 14-16 by the time the curse was lifted? He was shown as a real human boy when, chronologically speaking, he should've been a teen-ager by then.
