Thanks for the tips bro, would you ever do a video on your camera settings? I just got the as7iii can’t wait to set it up 🔥

Hey there! I did one about a year ago and not much has changed since then (it’s called “my camera gear and settings for cinematic sports videos” I believe) so check that one out. I’ll probably make an updated video sometime around the new year.

Thanks for this! When I started shooting sports I thought I'd go the route of working with organizations (and I still try to) but it seems a lot of them like to push me toward charging the athletes for mixes while giving them the free content. I've had a few students pay for content, but they are definitely a tough sell too!

It’s definitely tough getting those first couple paying clients starting out! Focus on making the best work you can rather than making money from it if you can, and over time as your work improves you’ll find it becomes easier to get hired by the organizations that you want to work for.

Basketball videographers, a 24-70 is just as if not more important than having a 70-200 and is a lot cheaper. I also think it's more versitile for things outside of sports.
@petersarellas
@petersarellas 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely agree that a 24-70 or something in that range is key. Like you said, a lens that can zoom out to the wider end should probably be among your first purchases because of how versatile it can be.

Almost done with my build based on your info so thank you! The only outstanding question I have is the side handle. It looks like you don't use one even with your cage. This assumingly makes it easier to start and stop the video for clips which I 100% agree with. If you were to use a side handle, I wonder how that would be possible? I assume you don't recommend one as I can't find any recommendations or use of one in any of your videos. Thanks!!
@petersarellas
@petersarellas 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Drew, you’re correct that I don’t use a side handle. I’ve used them before and really disliked the side handles that are extended away from the camera body because I feel like I have less control of the camera with those ones. If I’m going to use a side handle I’d prefer one of the wooden ones that attaches directly onto your camera cage with no bars extending it away so that you can hold the camera as tight as possible. Hope This helps and best of luck with your build!

Currently I’m backing up to those big clunky 8TB western digital drives. I really should get a NAS system but honestly just haven’t pulled the trigger yet

Hey Peter I have a quick question. I know you kind of went over this but I was wondering if a 130mm focal length is ok for basketball? Thanks so much I really enjoy the videos.
@petersarellas
@petersarellas 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Nate, short answer is yes as long as you’re using a zoom lens and also have the option to get wider as required.

@@budsterr the Sony 18-105mm f4 is probably a good place to start for the reasons that I listed in this video, and if you have the budget for it you could also consider bumping up to a Tamron 28-75 2.8 (this is the one that I use) or Sony GM 24-70mm 2.8.
