Michael Keaton, Academy Award winner Geena Davis, Alex Baldwin and Winona Ryder star in director Tim Burton's comic twist on supernatural horror tales--Beetlejuice. When a couple of nice, young homebody ghosts (Baldwin and Davis) try to haunt the pretentious humans who have moved into their house, they ask for help from a demonic wraith (Keaton) they cannot control in this comic fantasy that mixes the quick and the dead with a laugh and a fright.

The wife (Lydia) was played by Catherine O'Hara who played Kevins mum on Home Alone 1 & 2. The daughter was played by Wynona Rider.

Michael Keaton actually improvised most of his dialogue, for example, when that tree falls over and he says "Nice fucking model!" He's referring to the set designer since it wasn't supposed to fall over!

I've watched a bunch of Beetlejuice reactions, and so for yours is my favorite. You found joy in it where others took it a little too seriously. My favorite part of the Day-O possession scene is the acting... especially Otho & the mom, Delia... they alternated between being happy to be singing & dancing with being horrified that they had no control during the possession. Keep up the good work!

Yeah I've never understood why so many reactors didn't care for this. The tone seems very obvious from the start, but that's the biggest complaint I've heard. I thought this movie would play even better these days.

Betelgeuse is named after a star in the shoulder of Orion. It’s Arabic name is Betelgeuse which means “armpit of the giant”. The title is just his name how it is pronounced to western audiences.

Betelgeuse is the name of one of the brightest stars the Orion constellation. It's what the title characters is named for. The title is Beetlejuice 1. So people would know how to pronounce the movie and 2. It's how he explained his name in the game of charades. Claymation aka stop motion animation is also practical effects. Everytime I hear, "it was a little slow" I die a little inside. The brilliant creativity of this movie is unlike any other movie.

Michael Keaton, who played Beetlejuice, was in Tim Burton's Batman as the caped crusader himself with Jack Nicholson as the Joker for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting actor in a film. The daughter, Winona Ryder was in a lot of Jonny Depp films and the mother was in Home Alone as Kevins mother. The main guy they wanted to get up there was a famous singer named Robert Goulet, so the cast was filled with famous people

Fun Fact: at the 12:00 mark, the red ‘pants’ she’s wearing, is actually Charles sweater he wears in a diff scene. She’s using the arms for leg holes. U can briefly see how the pants just don’t quite look right

I'm almost 40 years old I've watched this film so many times I can't even count. It stands the test of time it is just pure genius, the design, the story, the mind of Tim Burton always amazes me and last but not least the epic score by Danny Elfman, him and Burton together equals masterpiece

I find it amusing to think that this same man who played the whacky Betelgeuse also played Batman in two films, and also (McDonald's owner) Ray Kroc in "The Founder".

That "Day-O" scene is famous. Love it. Fun Fact: During the sequence where Adam and Barbara enter Juno's office and see her speaking to a recently deceased football team, a movie theater full of ghosts can be seen through Juno's office window. When the film was released in theaters, the scene created the illusion that the living and dead audiences could see each other. Among the ghosts in the audience are a red skeleton, a green skeleton, a woman with red hair, and two men in suits and Ray-Ban style sunglasses.

Seeing you having so much fun with some of my favorite movies aways brightens my day! My husband and I are the kind of gross married people who are best friends- we always say we wish (hope?) the afterlife is what the Maitlands experience- an eternity just hanging out with each other (and finally having time for all our hobbies!) sounds like heaven to me.

Zagnut's are great candy bars! Kind of like Butterfingers layers inside with a toasted coconut outer coating. Yummy! My favorite part is the dinner scene. My hubby dressed as Beetlejuice & I dressed as Lydia for Halloween once. Alec Baldwin & Geena Davis were the dead couple. Michael Keaton was Beetlejuice. Wynona Ryder was the daughter Lydia. Old talk show host Dick Cavett & old crooner Robert Goulet were guests. Catherine O'Hara was Delia, the mom. Great reaction.

Tim Burton is a totally unique director and artist in the history of American cinema. A distinct style unlike anyone else. Another great, classic Tim Burton film to check out that I really think you would particularly enjoy. “Big Fish” (2003)

Loved the movie as a kid. I always loved Michael Keaton's performance. Some of the effects initially scared me as a kid. However, repeat viewings dulled those fears. Geena Davis and Adam Baldwin are such a likable couple, while Winona Ryder did a great job demonstrating the Goth mindset at the time. I also loved the performances of Catherine O'Hara and Jeffrey Jones as the couple who move into the house. Such a great comedy.

I remember watching this in the 80's. In fact, going to the movies to watch Beetlejuice was my first date. I was so nervous I could hardly talk to the girl, lol. I was a mess, & had to rent the movie after it came on video to remember what I watched, lol.

I was a kid when I saw this and absolutely loved it. So imaginative. So fun. And a bit weird and dark so... right up my alley. I have a feeling that Tim Burton (the director) and I were pretty similar as children. For this, Edward Scissorhands, Batman, and The Nightmare Before Christmas (which he didn't direct himself but the story and characters were all his) he became one of my favorite directors, maybe my #1 favorite for a time (when I was a teenager). Today I'm not sure if I even have a favorite director... maybe Burton.. maybe Christopher Nolan... maybe the Russo Brothers... or the Cohens. But I still love Burton's kooky style.

Michael Keaton has always been in top 5 actors for me... Its his facial expressions.. and voice! Especially when he gets a little crazy! *Multiplicity (1996)* is a great example of his craziness! Aside from Beetlejuice its my favorite MK movie! Hope you can check it out one day.

If you want a great Thanksgiving movie I'd watch "Dutch". Dutch is a comedy starring Ed O'Neil from Married with children. He has to pick up his girlfriend's kid and bring him home from school for the holiday and so much shenanigans insues! It's all I can say without spoiling. It's also a John Hughes movie like the Breakfast Club and 16 Candles. It's absolutely fantastic. A gem that somehow slipped under the radar for most people! It's a must watch for sure! 😁 Great review on this film though. I consider it a great entry level film into the horror genre for those who shy away from the scary stuff. 👍

Awesome man!! I am glad you saw the whole thing as a comedy. Beetlejuice is the actor who plays Batman in 1989, Vulture in Spiderman, and more serious roles too. Michael Keaton. Alec Baldwin is SO young in this, it's hard to pickup on...other than the voice. Winona Rider in in Heathers, Edward Scissorhands, and Stranger Things.

The mom is also the mom in Home Alone. The dad was in The Hunt for Red October, and also the principal in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The male ghost was Jack Ryan in that. The female ghost was the lead in A League of Their Own with Tom Hanks. The snooty dinner guest is Dick Cavett, who hosted the talk show in Forrest Gump where John Lennon was guest. And Beetlejuice is Batman (1989).

Lydia was the daughter. Also, Beetleguese was the original spelling of name by mistake. When it was corrected they were too deep into finishing the film to change it.

the thumbnail having images from the musical got me super excited, doubt you'll EVER see this, but you should checkout the musical for this movie! If you haven’t seen it yet. They gave the characters a lot of nuance and emotion, the story is changed quite a lot but it is ABSOLUTELY done for the betterment of it all, and the songs are GORGEOUS and amazingly well done. They changed it to have Lydia be the main character of the musical, the Maitlands instead take a more side character role like Lydia had in the movie, but they all matter s well. Even Delia, the mother was changed in a really great way to make her actually very lovely and enjoyable and just as funny.

My ex-wife and I went to Vermont to see the spot where the house was in this movie. It was just a lot though, they built the house specifically for the movie.

I lived through the black plague, and I had a pretty good time during that. I've seen "The Exorcist" JUST ABOUT 167 TIMES! AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT! My favourite Tim Burton films are "Frankenweenie" and "Edward Scissorhands". You should definitely check those out!

Oh man Tim Burton's movies are amazing from Batman (1989) the best depiction of Gotham having one of the most iconic soundtracks by Danny Elfman a movie which inspired the that dark and gothic look we see in the Batman Animated Series and the Arkham video games to The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) one of the best animated movies to date music also by Danny Elfman. Danny Elfman also does a lot of the music in BeetleJuice as well. Edward Scissorhands (1991) is another great movie soundtrack again by Elfman this may be my favourite Burton followed by Batman 1989 and Batman Returns 1992. If you want to get into D.C i highly recommend Superman 1 and 2 and then Batman 1989 and Returns. Then the Dark Knight trilogy movies (Begins being my favourite) and then you have the DCEU which is pretty much D.C's movie universe like the MCU. I'm not a big DCEU fan there nothing compared to the amazing DCAU (Animated universe) the amazing Animated series for Batman and Superman along with the Justice League etc all set in the same animated universe. Joker is also amazing it's an elseworld story not connected to any of the universes it's on thing same goes with the new Batman movie.

80's had the best run of comedies. Back then things were fun so makes sense. Things started to get to serious in the 90's so when comedies started coming back into mainstream it was more raunchy or just silly. But probably one of the all time best comedies ever is a movie called, "some like it hot" with Jack Lemmon, Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis. It's a must see...at some time.

Geena Davis is awesome in Long Kiss Goodnight, Cutthroat Island, and Thelma & Louise. Michael Keaton is awesome in Multiplicity, Mr. Mom, and My Life. Winona Ryder is great in Girl Interrupted, and Mermaids. Alec Baldwin was in Pearl Harbor and Fun With Dick and Jane.

Michael Keaton, who plays Beetlejuice, also has the starring role in 1989s Batman & 1992s Batman Returns. He steps out but saga continues with Batman forever (1995), and finally Batman & Robin (1997) Personal I prefer the Christian Bale vision of Batman with the trilogy Batman Begins The Dark Knight & The Dark Knight Rises

The thing that freaks me out is the football player needing to pee. Maybe in that world, if you die while you really have to pee, you just feel that way forever. And not that this is relevant, but there actually is a nearby star named “Betelgeuse” and it really is pronounced “Beetlejuice”.

Been awhile since I saw this film, it was nice to watch it with you. As for the films, the long kiss goodnight with Geena Davis and Samuel L Jackson, an action film or Thelma and Louise again with Geena Davis. For Winona Ryder, the daughter in the film, there is Edward Scissor Hand, directed by Tim Burton who also directed Beetlejuice. I know that you didn't like Lydia but you might like her in Home Alone 1 and 2 she plays the mum there, if you haven't seen them might I suggest those for your Christmas movies list. For thanksgiving movies, I'm not really up on thanksgiving movies, the only one that sticks out for me is Adams Family Values which has a great thanksgiving scene but you'll probably need to watch the first film the Adams Family. I don't know if you'll be interested but for me a staple Christmas movie one I watch every year is It's a Wonderful Life a 1946 film starring James Stewart.

I have a Christmas suggestion. Daddys Home 2, There is a Daddys Home before that one but its not a Christmas movie. So I guess you could see the first one in November if you wanted to the see Daddys Home 2 in December. Also great reaction to Beetlejuice. Most reactors don't seem to like it as much. They are too critical of the effects I think.

Hi James :) Betelgeuze is the name of a Red Giant Star in the Belt of Orion.....Maybe he's from there ? Who knows ... (Well the Director Tim Burton knows. You should watch some of his other Movies too. He's quite imaginative ) And If You really want strange matingsounds watch Young Frankenstein ;)

Addendum: the name Betelgeuse is pronounced "Beetlejuice". The movie's title was changed to the phonetic spelling because it was easier for audiences to say and was funnier in general. This is lampshaded in the movie when he's trying to get Lydia to say his name. Also, their caseworker, Juno is named after a comet. There's an astrological/Roman myth theme at play. "You've been to Saturn! I've been to Saturn!"

They wanted to make the name of the poster more literal, Beetlejuice, but the character is named after the tenth brightest star which is pronounced Beetlejuice, but is spelled Betlegeuse and it is a running joke that the characters mispronounce his name.

I don't know if you care about these kinda things; however, there is a beetlejuice musical. It's very good. If your interested, check it out! Keep putting out these movie reactions. It brings me joy to watch some classic movies with you. :)

For next year, Home for the Holidays is a Thanksgiving movie. I watch it every year. It has an all star cast - Robert Downey Jr. (Ironman) being one of them.
