My mom told me that when I was about 2 years old, she took me to a show. My uncle worked security there. I always got to go backstage and meet the wrestlers. Macho Man came up and said something in character and it was loud and I cried because he scared me. Mom said that Ms. Elizabeth politely took me from my mom and calmed me down. I was born disfigured but Ms. Elizabeth said that I was a beautiful and precious little man.

Addiction is not another wrestler. What an uninformed comment. We can blame every drug overdoses on someone else. As addicts we make our choices and I am all about helping recovering addicts that want help but all to often the end up covered up instead of sobering up. Lex could’ve easily died from an overdose and are we gonna blame someone for that? Addiction kills so many people.

@@grimmseti she didn't die in that cage though did she? She was too soft for that world and could easily be lead on. Dude was really over the top because he cared that much. Why did she get so heavy into drugs and alcohol after she left? It's like a child that could never go outside and when they finally do they go crazy and never stay inside again. Randy protected her so much that when she first got exposed to it without his shackles; she went crazy. In her eyes she was finally living free, but slowly she was killing herself. R.I.P

I remember reading in Bret's book that Elizabeth was much like a bird in a cage and that Savage was insanely jealous of her. I can understand how Savage would feel the need to protect her from the over sexualization of women in the locker room. It's a really tragic story of what has happened to so many within the wrestling industry for so long. So many names are gone now that used to grace our TV sets and magazines. So many iconic names are now footnotes in wrestling memorials, including but not only Randy Savage, Rick Rude, Curt Hennig, Big Boss Man, and so many, along with so many women who have died at such young ages in the business. Elizabeth, Sherri Martel, Luna Vachon, and Woman are just a few of the names that no longer greet us in the wrestling world. Sad that so many more deaths occur in this profession than in any other sports or entertainment based profession. Elizabeth was truly a very iconic figure and will never be forgotten.

It’s kind of sad when her death was caused by extremes. When she was with savage he tried to protect her from the harsh realities of the wrestling business, but he went too far. the death of Liz always reminds me of the death of Whitney Houston. From both being perceived as just darlings, to the fall from grace, to even the "bad boys" in their lives getting the blame for their demise. But just as with Whitney Houston, I didn't blame Bobby Brown when it was well known that Whitney was using long before she knew Bobby, im willing to wager that Liz was also using long before she knew Lex Luger. But when you combine to volatile people like that, they begin to basically become bad influences on one another.

Bringing up Savage being overprotective is a moot point simply because even if she stayed with him she wouldn't have been in a good mental state. She might've committed suicide over his control issues. I'm sorry but she wasn't a saint as she was a drug addict and knew Luger was married yet still continued their relationship. She could've left the wrestling business for good and perhaps if she stayed away she'd be living an ideal life. She reunited with danger and I feel that's what led to her death. That said, RIP. She was one of my favorites from the WWF's golden years. Had a crush on her when I was a kid. Good memories.

Any time woman who has multiple bruises and cuts to her face (and the police are called) a week before she dies, is VERY SUSPICIOUS to me. And it's usually suspicious to the police when it's not a celebrity. Once Elizabeth dies in his book, she is never mentioned again. Lex doesn't even say if her death bothered him. Sting said more about Liz and her death in the intro of the book than Lex. So Liz is roughed up, dies, and Lex doesn't seem too concerned with her death....

one thing I learned here, that I should probably say was reinforced, was the Lex Luger was one helluva businessman and smart with his money. I mean, how else do you figure that he was able to do so many things over those years, not only with minimal $ coming in (Bischoff said he gave Luger like a bare minimum contract upon his return to WCW), but even after WCW folded, Luger had cake to start new businesses, rent out spots, and even build a brand new house on the down low. And the "partying" aint cheap either!

thank you for this! I've wanted to know more about this situation for a while. I've held back on making assumptions about Lex because I didn't know the whole story. granted, we'll never know it all,but the fact that he called 911 for Liz speaks volumes about how much he cared for her. I was a pill addict for almost 12 years, and many people would refrain from calling 911 because they wanted time to clean up any illegal substances so as not to "catch charges". he knew he was gonna be busted, but he called anyway. anyway, thanks for this episode. great stuff. Alcoholism and Drug abuse does not care if you are rich or poor, young or old, black or white, famous or unknown. It is an elevator going down, and you can get off on any floor. Get help, there is lots of people just like you, you make friends and live a full life. Rest In Peace Elizabeth. 😞
