Some of the most devout Catholics I've met recently are former Protestant ministers or theologians. If one is intellectually honest and not cherry picking tradition and scripture, Catholicism is the most likely final destination.

Keith, as usual, a great topic and powerful message. Non Catholics aren't the only ones who have fallen prey to secularism and have missed the mark in following Jesus. Too many Catholics also have been blinded to the truth of Jesus admonition to "take up your cross daily and follow Me" ~ along the "narrow road" of obedience and self-denial. The only place where true peace and joy can be found is in the Holy will of God, as revealed by Jesus; and taught by the Catholic Church.

Your message explain why evangelical churches are very popular in US. Evangelical churches have become churches according to what people want to hear instead of listening to the truth. I have a coworker who is a baptist. She saw me reading the bible. She came to me, opened my bible without my permission. I knew right away she was going to ask which church I go to and it happened. I told her it was a catholic bible and right away she rolled her eyes and said she was catholic but then she chose to be saved. I am like, I guess that is what they want you to believe, that you are saved by just simply saying I accept jesus as my lord and savior. New flash people, when you say I accept jesus as my lord and savior, that is when the hard part start.

When I was in the marines I was on a Navy ship for a 6 month boat ride. Our first stop they made an announcement “No one gets off this ship without a condom in his hand..” I told my sgt “I’m not getting off this boat for 6 months.” He told the Lt. the Lieutenant called me to his office He said he was a Catholic and it’s no big deal. I lost my military composure and said “Not in a million years, .......sir.” The Lieutenant had a meeting with the Commanding officer. The commanding officer had a meeting with the ship Capt. they changed the policy.

Thank you for this. "Jesus didn't come to make your life easy. He came to make your life meaningful." That speaks to me so much. Aside from the Eucharist, what converted me was looking at the Crucifix. I attended Mass for a few months before I decided to become Catholic, and one day, looking at the giant Crucifix above the altar, I saw how much Jesus suffered and then finally understood that my own suffering was also valuable. That realization has completely altered my life, even though my life hasn't gotten any easier.
@theragra
@theragra 4 жыл бұрын
I have the same experience. My convertion was (has been) a process which started 17 years ago by looking at the Crucifix above the altar during the Christmas eve Mass. I realized that pain and suffering - if in communion with Jesus - will be the bridge to eternal life. Whenever i feel some pain now and I recall that meditation, I dont fear any more. And if the fear against sufferring persists, I decide in heart to go to Getsemani to share this fear with Jesus, just to be there with Him, even a couple of minutes. He will never fail to bless your compassion. God bless you :)

@@brucewmclaughlin9072 Hello. Merry Christmas. How is the cross a curse when Col 1:20 says that Christ made peace through the blood of His Cross, Gal 1:14 talks of boasting only of the Cross through which wrought our salvation and which joins us to Him by separating us from the world, and Christ Himself tells us in Matthew 16:24 that we must pick up our crosses and follow Him? Do you mean that Christ was telling us to pick up "curses" instead? I agree that Christ is no longer physically lying on the cross. He does still suffer though. Your last statement is a bit confusing. If you mean that Christ is not physically present in a crucifix, then I agree.

Truly following Jesus is already hard, and being Catholic presses me to continually keep growing in faith and drawing closer to God. The Church keeps me from growing complacent and /or falling away from my prayer life. Jesus asked us to follow Him; do the will of the Father. He promised us that it wasn't going to be easy, but our reward is in Heaven. I was raised Catholic but left the Church and Christianity all together in my early 20s (I'm in my mid 40s now). Four years ago, I converted back, first to Christ, and, then, I rejoined His Church. I wanted to do His will in all I do, and it's really, really hard, but everything is so much clearer now. I spend a lot of my time in prayer and self-reflection. I have to do penance for the wrongs I committed. It's worth all the tears, though. I work on myself one step at a time, and the Church and her sacraments and prayers are the best help I could ask for. It's been a difficult but wonderfully cleansing journey so far. I remember calling my mom in tears telling her how hard it was. She told me that's how I know I'm doing it right.

@queenofhearts7726 4 жыл бұрын
Walter Romanoff first... i never said he was a Catholic Priest. I said he was a convert to Catholicism. Why so much hostility? Didn’t Jesus tell us to love our neighbors AND our enemies? How do you know what I know or don’t know? Are you psychic? Do you read minds? Are you God? You’ve made an awful lot of assumptions about what I know or don’t. It is not our place to Judge other people’s motives... that is Gods prerogative, not ours. Take care that Jesus doesn’t write your sins in the sand as you condemn others. Just a suggestion.
@queenofhearts7726
@queenofhearts7726 4 жыл бұрын
Walter Romanoff just who do you think put the New Testament together? When? People can read for themselves what the Catholic Church teaches in the Catechism and in the church doctrine, if they want to. Many Catholics do read and know the Bible very well. Just by reading bible verses used in the daily readings, within two years, you will have read virtually the entire bible. Do you go to a church, listen to a minister? Discuss the Bible with others? Where do you get your ideas about what the Bible means? Do you rely on your own understanding or someone else’s “interpretation”? In John 10:16, Jesus said “I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be ONE FLOCK, one shepherd.” How do you know you belong to the “one flock”? Or are you out there somewhere by yourself? With the attitude you are portraying, I don’t think you will dissuade anyone from the Catholic Church, nor will you bring anyone to your way of thinking... just sayin’

Awesome video Keith!! If I wasn't a Catholic for 62 years already, this video would have converted me instantly!! But being born and raised Catholic, I know only too well what you are trying to get across 2 your listeners. But I must say many Catholics need to hear this message also. For me personally when Jesus said, "TAKE UP YOUR CROSS, and follow ME"..He pretty much summed up what a true Christian was supposed to do! And in my long life of being a Catholic and striving to do this I must admit that you do fall, but you keep on getting up and following the master. Beautiful thing about taking up your cross and following Jesus is that he always brings you to these little oasis's along your journey!! Just when you think you can't go another step something Beautiful happens always. I guess what I'm trying to say is that he always gives you these little timeouts to reinvigorate you and let you know that he really is with you and he really loves you and wants you to be with him in heaven someday. Wow how I love those time outs!!! And the more I experience them, the closer I feel to him! We must always remember, that our dear Lord Jesus did not have any "TIMEOUTS" on his way to Calvary!!! Praise God forever!!! P.S. I really loved what you said about the only thing that matters about a path is where it leads you!! That should definitely be put on billboards all over the world!! That is great food for thought!! God bless you!!

Dear Keith, Thank you for these videos, they really are very encouraging. There are a few members of my extended family that have left the Catholic Church. And the one thing they all have in common is that they got a divorce and "remarried" without an annulment. It was easier to find a protestant church that went along with their new life. On the flip side, I know a woman who was divorced by her husband, and rather than choose that easier path, decided to spend the rest of her life praying for him. That is the way of a true follower of Jesus. That is heroic love!!

I thank the good Lord everyday I was born into a Catholic family, I have strayed to other denominations, but came running back to the arms of Jesus in the Eucharist and the protection of Mother Mary's mantle. God bless you Keith, for speaking so passionately about our faith. Some of the reasons I strayed were due to my own luke-warmness and looking to 'get something out of the service' when I realized I was not putting anything into it. I got caught up in powerful emotions from entertaining worship songs and thought that was the Holy Spirit working in me. When really I did not know any of the Holy Trinity in a relational way. Once I came back to the Catholic church, I felt like I was finally home. There is no greater gift from God then being blessed with the knowledge and wisdom to 'work out your salvation' , it's an incredible journey to grow close to the heart of God and sainthood and eternal life, it's what we are here to do!

Catholicism, with the right attitude about putting God front and center in your life, isn't so much hard as challenging. It challenges you to be a saint. That's not a challenge at which one should thumb one's nose and go looking for the easy way out. The easy way is the highway to Hell.

Glock's Mom And I would challenge that. A lot of catholic doctrines are extra-biblical and in some cases unbiblical (e.g. the perpetual virginity of and the bodily assumption of Mary). Worship in spirit and in truth (Jn. 4:24), not spirit and man-made doctrines

David Ortiz I’m not denying the “church” is inspired by the Holy Spirit. What I deny is the “church” Jesus Christ established on earth is somehow synonymous with the Roman Pontiff that came a few centuries later. Sorry, you will not find one passage of Scripture or one apostolic father recognizing the supreme authority of Rome as the “pillar of truth” the church is built on. Not one. Therefore, you sir are guilty of eisegesis for cramming your unfounded Catholic assumptions into 1 Tim. 3:15. When left to itself, Scripture makes ZERO mention of papal authority (NONE of the apostles mention it or even suggest it, not even St. Peter), ZERO mention of indulgences, ZERO mention of venerating Mary as being a perpetual virgin (read Mark 6: SHE HAD OTHER CHILDREN), and ZERO suggestion of purgatory (you have to read it into the passages and ignore the overall contexts). Your church puts itself above Scripture, which IS God-breathed in both the Old and New Testaments (2 Pet. 3:15-16: even your “Pope” considers St. Paul’s letters to be Scripture) and won’t let go of this completely baseless claim to infallible authority. Your popes and counsels contradict themselves. And you seriously have the audacity to call me a “poor soul” here?

@@sethfrazer7404 Hi. What is wrong with having extra biblical traditions? The Bible doesn't condemn them and it would be odd if it did because: 1) Matthew 2:23; 23:2-3, 1 Cor 10:4, 2 Tim 3:8, and Luke 10:7 are references to "unbiblical" doctrines as well. You will not find Jannes and Jambres anywhere in the Old Testament, but you will find reverence to the seat of Moses in Judaic "unbublical" midrash; 2) it did not exist for the first 400 years of Christianity and there could therefore have been no such thing as a "biblical doctrine" within that period...you know, the same period within which the Church was first recorded as having prayed for the dead, prayed to the saints in Heaven, venerated Our Lady, taught the Immaculate Conception, acknowledged the primacy of St Peter- all of these doctrines predate the Bible. Doesn't 2 Thess 2:15 talk of upholding both written and oral Apostolic tradition? You refer to Scripture as "God breathed" and cite "supporting" verses but they do not really help your case. Why 66 books, why those _specific_ ones and by whose authority? Why not _the Didache_ or _Enoch_ or the _Protoevangelium of James_ as well? St Peter only refers to St Paul's letters in general. He neither names nor lists them. Most scholars reject Hebrews as a Pauline letter and many Church Fathers doubted its authenticity (as well as that of Jude, _2 Peter itself,_ 2 and 3 John, Revelation, and James). So why don't you? What I find ironic is that you dismiss doctrines that are not explicitly stated in the Protestant Bible (created 500 years ago) yet do not mention that it says nothing of a 'Trinity'. You say the Papacy originated "centuries later" and dismiss the authority of Church Councils, yet ignore the fact that the Trinitarian doctrine was canonized well over 300 years after Christ _by the authority of ecumenical councils._ The perpetual virginity of Mary has been a given since the first century and even your Protestant founders accepted it; Protestants did not start rejecting it until just 300 years ago. You mention Mark 6. I point you to Matthew 27:55-56, Mark 15:47, John 19:25-27 and the work _Expositions of the Sayings of the Lord_ by a 2nd century Church Father, student of the daughters of Philip, and Bishop called Papias. Those alleged "brothers" were the children of Mary of Cleopas, not Jesus' siblings. If Christ had siblings, then why would He entrust His Mother to an evangelist destined for persecution when His "brothers" were still very much alive? (Acts 1:14) The earliest record of the bodily Assumption dates to the fifth century, but Maria Valtorta's _The Poem of the Man God_ affirms it was well known before the death of John. Papal authority is indeed mentioned in Scripture: when Christ establishes it in Matthew 16:17-19. The Church has the authority to grant indulgences through Her power to bind and loose sins (John 20:21-23). Purgatory is a Jewish doctrine recorded in 2 Maccabees 12:43-46- a book which predated Christ by close to 150 years and was among the 73 books of the original Bible infallibly compiled at the AD 382 Council of Rome. The Pope's infallibility is only binding when invoked. It matters not if past Popes contradict each other for they are only human and not everything they have said is binding on anyone. How do our councils contradict each other? And if the Magisterium's claim to authority is baseless, then you might as well throw away your New Testament: She canonized it.

@@queenofhearts7726 So my question is how do u really earn your way to heaven? Is it by works? Like praying the rosary? How will i know if my works are ENOUGH to earn heaven ? How many rosaries do i need to pray everyday? how many times do i need to go to confession to priest in a month?
@geraldineekhator5428
@geraldineekhator5428 4 жыл бұрын
Revival7 Only God can give you that answer. The Our Father is from the Bible. The Hail Mary is as well. The Mysteries that are meditated on are: The Joyful Mysteries: The Annunciation (Luke 1:30-33), The Visitation (Luke 1:50-53), The Nativity-Birth of Christ (Luke 2:10-11), The Presentation (Luke 2:29-32), The Finding of Jesus in the Temple(Luke 2:48-52). The Luminous Mysteries: The Baptism of the Lord in the Jordan 2Corinthians 5:21 Matthew 3:17), The Wedding Feast of Cana (John 2:1-12), The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God (Mark 1:15, 2:3-13; Luke 7:47-48 and John 20:22-23), The Transfiguration (Luke 9:35), The Institution of the Eucharist (John 13:1). The Sorrowful Mysteries: The Agony in the Garden (Matthew 26:38-39), The Scourging at the Pillar (John 19:1), The Crowning with Thorns (Mark 15:16-17), The Carrying of the Cross (John 19:17), The Crucifixion (John 19:28-30). The Glorious Mysteries: The Resurrection (Mark 16:6-8), The Ascension (Acts 1:10-11), The Coming of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-4), The Assumption of Mary (Song of Songs 2:3-6), The Coronation of Mary (Luke 1:51-54). So you see the scriptures are condensed into the rosary. After each decade we say Glory Be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be world without. Amen. We say three Hail Mary’s for faith, hope and charity then the Glory Be. We say after the Glory Be : Oh My Jesus forgive us our sins save us from the fires of hell and lead all souls to heaven especially those in most need of thy mercy. Everything is centered on Jesus Christ. I try to get to confession once a month but The Catechism of the Catholic Church says once a year for the minimalist Catholic. I feel more grace and love going once a month than once a year I can tell you. I feel the presence of Christ in the confessional every time. Padre Pio said 13 full rosaries a day if not 17. The rosary starts with the I believe in God (Apostles Creed). So come home and find the church Christ started. JimmyAkin.com

Revival7 Good questions! First, works don’t “earn” your way to heaven... I never said they did. I just meant that the way to heaven isn’t easy... the Bible states as much. Jesus did save us by dying on the cross for our sins, but we have our part to do, too, in order to keep that salvation. First and foremost is to keep the commandments, which includes loving our enemies as well as our neighbors. When we come to God and are justified, it happens without any Merit on our part. Neither our faith nor our works-nor anything else-merits justification. God doesn’t simply declare us righteous. He also makes us righteous in justification. The Council of Trent defined justification as “not only a remission of sins but also the sanctification and renewal of the inner man”. So at the beginning of the Christian life, God forgives our sins and gives us the gift of righteousness. But he’s not done with us. He wants us to grow in righteousness over the course of the Christian life, and, if we cooperate with his Grace, we will. Catholic theology refers to this growth in righteousness using the term justification, so, in Catholic language, justification isn’t something that happens just at the beginning of the Christian life. It happens over the course of the Christian life. Several passages from St. Paul state that Christians grow in virtue by yielding our bodies to righteousness for sanctification. It states that by good works we “increase in that justice received through the grace of Christ and are further justified”. James 2:24: “Do you see that by Works a man is justified, and not by faith only?” James’s statement this relates not to the initial justification that occurs when we first come to God but to the growth in righteousness that occurs over the course of the Christian life. I believe the confusion comes in “terms” used rather than in the actual facts of belief. Catholics do not believe in “once saved, always saved”, however. Salvation can be lost through “sin that is deadly”. Confession is for the absolution of those sins, if the person is truly penitent, it brings him back into God’s grace. Jesus gave the authority to forgive or retain sins of man to the apostles and their successors... I.e. Catholic priests who act “in persona Christe” in confession. Other questions I can answer for you? You can also search subjects at Catholic.com... there are tons of articles, etc. that can tell you what Catholics really believe... from knowledgeable Catholics, rather than non-Catholics who may not understand what the Catholic Church really teaches. You can also read the Catechism of the Catholic Church which tell exactly what the Church teaches including biblical references.

An inconvenient truth: James 2:14-26 Revised Standard Version (RSV) Faith without Works Is Dead 14 What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works? Can his faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is ill-clad and in lack of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead...
