in my opinion Lex is the real MVP here. This is the first i have watched, and now have subscribed. i have never and i mean never seen a debate handled with such care and neutrality. It might not look like he does not do much but the man has reached the level cap in facilitation. I think that bad debates can be attributed to poor one sided facilitation and or cutting in and stopping the arguing party mid argument, it breeds frustration and can affect the mental state and the clear thinking of the debaters. Bravo I absolutely loved it.

@@jamescarbon3853I mean you’re not wrong implying that most people form an opinion then gather facts, but Ben Shapiro is one of them. I agree with him on almost everything, but when it comes to Israel, he time and time again exposes his opinion in the face of facts. To the contrary of facts. For me this was enough to stop following him. There are other people out there with a soul, with a heart, that have the same domestic ideas as him. It's a little uncanny and a bit concerning that when previewing comments before I dive into the video, almost every comment is gushing about how wonderful it is that the conversation is civil. While I understand and sympathize with the overwhelming desire to have grounded conversations considering the state of public discourse...everywhere, this is a 2.5 hour video and the top comments are priming me to expect that very little of substance will be in the video itself because all the comments are ONLY about how civil the conversation was. Normally in videos, comments are filled with people zoning in on specific topics that get mentioned, discussing the specifics of what one person or another has said and either picking it apart or responding to it by adding further clarifying details. When I sorted comments by new, things were a lot more specific and came across a lot less...performative/masturbatory, which made me more excited for the video. But the whole thing does scratch at a suspicion I've had for a while now that because our public platforms for discourse is so awful, some people conflate more heated discussions with bad faith discussions because people tend to get angry and heated when their opponents argue in bad faith. And depending on who you agree with, you won't notice the bad faith habits of your ideological ally in the debate but will notice all the bad faith arguments of your ideological opponent, which is why most modern debates are associated with performative rage-bait and polarizing audiences into even smaller echo chambers. Throw in the fact that one side or another might start screaming back in bad faith defensively because the other side started it first, the whole thing turns into a mess really quickly. But good faith heated debates also happen, especially when serious topics are discussed. In fact, if people aren't getting a little heated in discussions about really serious topics, it's kind of a red flag indicating the possibility that the aesthetics of civility is more important than the lives affected by the politics being discussed. You run into a similar echo chamber problem running into reverse--whereas bloodsport debates are useless because nothing gets done, with the target audience being people addicted to rage, a debate running purely on civility politics becomes useless because both sides go out of their way to not challenge their opponents, to avoid controversial topics, etc etc. Anyone who cares about the subjects at hand usually end up not being the target audience--and the people who enjoy the debates are people who see politics as a game rather than a force controlling the lives of millions, often threatening their ability to survive. I'm honestly a bit pessimistic about how this video will turn out. I hope very much I'll be proven very wrong and feel very silly by the end of it.

But the same would still be taught, it’s a conversation on whether poorer schools should be allocated resources on a federal level to teach the current curriculum at the same level as rich district schools. Ben thinks that this doesn’t address the root cause which he believes to be one parent households but that works under the assumption better quality education won’t close the gap enough to notice while destiny believes closing the gap in education quality will do enough to create long term benefit for the American population. 1:13:40 I wish Destiny pointed out that Ukraine already got security guarantees in 1994 (from Russia & the US & the UK) in exchange for conceding all its nuclear weapons to Russia. This is why we know Russia doesn't honor security guarantees, and if the US doesn't hold its end of the deal, it's also why we'll know any security guarantees given by the US are equally meaningless. Hence why nobody in Eastern Europe in particular supports any concessions at this point---locals understand that Russia will likely choose to ignore any future guarantees as well, and will simply continue to encroach further once it has rebuilt its forces.

Im no supporter of child abuse but anyone notice how back in the day when a parent/a teacher could physically discipline a child to an extent (ie:making them pick a switch, having a paddle hung on the wall) both of which I experienced as a kid was very beneficial. Kids then respected authority. When you’re molded from a child to follow rules and have a set of core values you’re better off. Regardless of what anarchists say rules and values are what built the great societies we have today.

Finally a conversation between people from across the political aisle without constant interrupting and name calling and cheap insults, just comparing each other's ideas and trying to see where the other stands in relation to them. These kinds of conversations is what we need in an increasingly divisive world instagated by social media. It's certainly way more constructive than the 10,000th "Ben Shapiro DESTROYS leftie college student" debate about the culture war.
