guy in the passenger seat literally had one of those rare, sometimes once in a lifetime moments where you know something is inevitably about to happen but are completely unable to do ANYTHING about it. i had it happen to me once when a car ran a red light coming the opposite direction while i had a green left turn signal and was halfway through the turn and hit me nearly head-on at highway speed (probably somewhere around 60mph or so). shit was one of the scariest moments of my entire life, that fraction of a second before they hit me when i realized what was about to happen and was completely helpless to stop it so all i could do was scream. of course all the airbags deployed, but the 1997 Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6 i was driving was probably why i was able to walk away without a single scratch. German engineering saved my life and i will always love Volkswagens as long as i live for that reason and many more. here’s the kicker though, i haven’t even told you the worst two things about what happened...first, i had literally purchased the car 8 HOURS EARLIER. as if that wasn’t enough, to add insult to (no) injury, the piece of shit who blew the red light and hit me with his Nissan Pathfinder also had his wife and two kids in the car with him and proceeded to LIE THROUGH HIS FUCKING TEETH to the insurance company and claim that i was the one who ran the red, not him. and because i live in NY (one of the stupid fucking no-fault states) plus the fact there were no direct witnesses (or at least none who came forward to give a statement when the police arrived) meant that a year later when all was said and done as far as all the court proceedings and insurance processes went, i ended up only receiving a settlement of (after paying my attorney) about $7500. granted, i had only paid $1500 for the car, but that doesn’t really make it any better. 8 years later and i STILL want to find where that guy lives and give him what he deserves for almost killing me and his family, lying about what happened to make sure i got as little money as possible and destroying one of the cars i had always dreamed of owning and had bought THE SAME FUCKING DAY.

Best real-life example of aside-impact airbag’s effectiveness: Pause the video at 0:20 , adjust playback speed setting to .25, and resume play.. Yes, the bag “boxed” the front passenger‘s ear upon deployment, but he was spared a severe knocked to the side of the skull. Without that airbag, he may have been talking at..25 at the actual playback speed.
