I'm slowly getting into building and porting. You have helped me a lot. Up until recently my main game was resurrecting old non running saws. It may be un-necessary, but when I get a old saw running I don't know the history of or how long it's been since it last ran, I run them rich for awhile.

I took a chance and bought a $200 68 cc Chinese made “German engineered “with a 24 inch bar. I appreciate your insights and thought process on tuning, but I will have to see if this thing is even doable when I go to 6000 feet to cut wood this next week

Love my old 272 Bought it new in the early 80's. Also a 65. Not much out there on the 65 but it still runs good. I didn't know much about two strokes but since I started watching Harv and Bellhopper I have them running. Not ready to break out the Dremel yet but at least I now know how they work. Wish I had known that 30 years ago.

Like your videos. Looking to port my new Echo 620pw after break-in. Never ported a saw, but many zenoah and other scooter motors. We piped them, larger carbs and some other tricks, i achieved moderate success in the racing scene. If you read this, have you ever seen a expansion piped saw where the pipe swept to the left and doubled as a measuring gauge also? Haha. 18" of pipe to the left with a stout bracket. Fast Firewood

I tell you what, I started watching yours and ironhorses videos because I wanted to understand how two strokes worked. My first video ended up being the one you made on port timing with the degree where on the engine that's cut in half. Gave me the old rope a dope and sucked me right in instantly. I had no idea what port timing was but I came away from that video with an understanding how fuel and air travel through the engine, and what part each component plays in that process. Now 4 weeks later I understand the "process" of port timing and how to get numbers off a saw. All this was enough to give me that saw itch again and can't believe how lucky I was to find in my home town shop, the exact saw I was looking for. A brand new, still in the box, Stihl ms460 magnum. Still has the warranty. I think I'll have the only unboxing video for an ms460 on KZfaq. Thanks again to you tinman. The knowledge is priceless

I just brought home my new MS261, hot s can of Motomix, I am familiar with letting them warm up at and idle. I'm not familiar with adjusting carbs really but being new and for Home use for some soft wood trees I'm gonna take down just want your opinion please. Thank you

Just bought a 562 because I was unable to get parts for my old 266 this morning and needed to cut today. Then I realized that I couldn’t really cut with the 562 anyway because it needed to be broken in. Ran the 266 without clutch spring or brake. Now wanna know how to break in the 562. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. So many opinions online.

Love seeing more guy's starting theses these channels so thumbs up for that! I picked up a barn find early 365 and after going thru pretty much everything I got it running and it's the cats meow. So now I have the bug to port it. My question is after porting will it generate enough HP to slab maple on a chainsaw saw mill, or should I be thinking bigger saw?

I've had over 30 new chainsaws cutting as a professional faller! I've broke them in rich and I've broke them in leaned up and run them as hard as I could. Every saw that I broke in running hard ran better overall and had more power! I never had an issue and now I break all my saws in flat out now

Great info sir. I am new to your channel and love your honest opinion and info. I have 2 272XP's, a 51 and a 359. I like them all. Just for the record though, when you say you run them rich, are you referring to the Hi or Lo or both ? Also do you have any vids showing the sound difference on a rich running or properly tuned saw just so us DIYers can know what to listen for ? Thanks in advance.

Just bought my 1st Echo CS590 Timberwolf, I diched my Stihl to buy this saw buy curious as to break it on the correct way. This is am issue that's hard to find information about. Someone please help me cause I'm ready to play with it

Hey man I have an old 262xp, beast of a saw I love it, but the idle screw has been rounded so it requires adjusting all the time. My local small engines guy had a look and says the only thing that can be done is replace the carb, and a genuine one is expensive. Currently I have locktite on the bolt which works for a while. Is that really the only way to fix this issue (replace carb)?

When ever i break in a saw i let her run the first tank on her own the second tank very ritch and i never had anny problem sinds i do it this way

I have a question that I've been contemplating. I was gifted two new Stihl chainsaws a MS 271 18" bar & an MS 291 20" chain I don't do much tree cutting, only if an occasional tree falls or a neighbor needs one. But with way way of everything going battery I want to get a saw that will last me the rest of my life, so should I keep these two saws or sell them to buy the very best professional saw with a cast metal body as opposed to plastic? Is knowing if your saw is rich or lean an experience thing? Something you get an ear for over time ? I have never quite understood the whole rich or lean thing i guess. If you have a video where the sound difference is really obvious it would be awesome

Let it warm up, and run it hard!! That's how professional motorcycle and drag racers do it.......get the rings to seat. I've built a bunch of Saws, never had a problem.

Hey Tinman got a question for you and all your KZfaq buddies .where is the best place to get good quality files to sharpen our chains . What l have been finding is some very substandard quality on the hardness of some files.l don't know why that is but it is true.Some chain also is harder as well.Some of these files cannot sharpen one chain whereas good files might sharpen six chains depending on the length and hardness .Could someone respond to this deliema.I don't think this is my lmagination.Talkto me Guys TtylCliff
