Petter PAZ1 Bleeding and getting it to start for the first time. The easy start probably freed off the piston rings as compression went up a lot after this video.

I would bleed the fuel lines, and if you are gettng no fuel through maybe one part of it is blocked in which case you should either replace it or remove it from the engine and thoroughly clean it. Many thanks for watching, please like, share and if you like the channel, subscribe!

Naturally you’ll have it sorted now I expect but my initial thoughts after bleeding the fuel system is that it seems a little down on compression as usually when they’re in good order, it’s not possible to swing it over compression without the decompressor engaged. Again, I’m sure it’s in perfect working order now, but in case it’s still being a reluctant little article, it may be worth inspecting the valves and seats and carrying out the necessary work to ensure both valves seal fully when they should. Diesels rely on good compression and being turned over fairly quickly for the “bang” to happen. Also, some of these engines had an oil prime directly into the cylinder which temporarily seals the rings and ups the compression until it fires then it burns the excess oil off and should run. I’m probably too late but hope this helps. I can tell you’re not an idiot by how you tightened the injector pipe nut so please don’t think my advice is patronising your ability. You can never assume someone knows something without asking them first!

Well.... As well as the valves have clearance you could drive a bus through, a broken piston ring, a worn bore and blown bing end.... So you are correct compression was a problem. I have since rebuilt the rocker gear, and had the cylinder rebored. I have not however put it back together yet. You can see in the next video on the PAZ1 how it ran just before the rebuild and how easily it starts when you know how. I'll link it at the end. Yes, I've just posted a compression lack of comment. However, mine was based on colour of smoke and lack of retardation due to compression. On your comment re continuous cranking with compression, that IS possible. But them were the days when I bent the camshaft on a small Lister where the starting crank fitted. Oops !

It’s the gaurd you can here rubbing on fly wheel because the top part over the head is missing. My old paz1 I have you can here the injector breaking when it injects fuel. I normally wind it over a bit on full throttle with decompressor open nice and gentle so to save energy then I give it all I got. It does not fire straight away it will puff smoke then it will fire up. I’ve never had to use easy start even in the middle of winter, it runs a 5.5kw generator that powers my garage it does bog down with over 3kw on it but I don’t use that much only the welder or angel grinder will load it up well.

In the next video I found that someone had put a bolt that was too long in the tinwork over the flywheel. That fixed that problem. I also found that the injector pump lever tends not to move to the start position on its own. In the next video it started really easily, despite, it turns out, having a broken piston ring and a massively worn rocker shaft (now fixed). Easy start a big no no erratic detonation can break piston rings and other internal damage the reduced compression makes it harder starting, machine also hooked on ether.
@BensWorkshop
@BensWorkshop 2 жыл бұрын
I agree the reduced compression makes it harder to start, this engine had not been started in a while, and had many problems. The easy start helped here, but it turns out was not required as I just needed to set the injector pump to the right place. See for example, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m81zjLen2Z63ZKs.html Note that the valve clearances are huge because the rocker shaft and bushings were worn out and the big end blown. I am not sure what you mean by: "machine also hooked on ether." If you mean hooked on easystart, it isn't (see the link) though it is about to get a rebored cylinder, new big ends and a rebuilt rocker gear as well as the missing cowling. Many thanks for watching, please like, share and if you like the channel, subscribe!

@@BensWorkshop when ether products are continuously used and the damage I mentioned occurs, because of reduced compression the engine now needs these products to start when cold. Also reduced compression equals reduced power! I’m glad your issue was sorted had a sneaky feeling it could be the problem. Good luck

@@BensWorkshop It'll deffo work better put back together ;) I'm looking specifically for Petter starting - seems a few don't bother with excess fuel. Rebore (& presume new piston) not always necessary. Check valves for sealing as others have mentioned and new rings - these things don't start with pistons that fit - they rely on the rings until warmed up and the piston becomes working size - LOL !
