Bengali aam dal | Sweet and sour green mango dal. Healthy, easy dal recipe, famous in the Bengali cuisine. Has a deliciously sweet and tangy taste, prepared using masoor dal (red lentils) and green (raw) mango. Serve with hot rice and papads.

Ingredients -
1. 1 Raw mango
2. 1/2 cup masoor dal
3. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
4. 1/2 tsp cumin (jeera) seeds
5. 1/2 tsp ginger paste
6. 2 red chillies
7. 2 green chillies
8. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
9. 2 - 3 cups water
10. 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
Recipe tips -
1. Mustard oil gives a wonderful flavor to this dish. If you do not have it, or if you do not like it, you can substitute it with any cooking oil of your choice.
2. Heat the mustard oil till it smokes - this step will take away the bitter taste of mustard oil.
3. As the oil will be very hot, the tempering ingredients like mustard, cumin seeds and red chillies will burn very fast. Therefore, keep all the ingredients ready and add them quickly one after the other.
4. Mashing 2 pieces of mango will give an extra tanginess to the dal. You and avoid this step if you do not want your dal to be very sour.
