You do know that the Tacoma has over 1700 lbs of payload. Just not this particular trim he is reviewing. For example, the 2024 Tacoma TRD Sport double cab automatic with the 6ft bed has the 1700lb payload. Do your homework. At the end of the day that Tacoma will be the better value because it’ll end up being more reliable and have better resale value.

Completely agree. The interior of the Tacoma looks like it belongs in a lower level Kia from 10 years ago with a large screen just slapped in.

The 2.3 isn't a slouch, it is pretty impressive. 0 to 60 probably a touch quicker than my old 5.3 trailboss.

I was thinking the same way until I started some research. Basically same HP as 2.3. 2.7 has better torque. Worse MPG. Many people prefer the 2.3 because it's plenty and is still somewhat economical. I would say if it's a daily driver the 2.3 is arguably better. If you're towing a lot with a heavy load than probably the 2.7.

@@uowebfoot I’m interested in upgradability though and as far as I’ve seen there isn’t much power to be gained on the 2.3. 2.7 is where it’s at in my opinion

@uowebfoot I haven't towed anything super heavy but I do haul my sxs with a utility trailer. Some between 3000 3500 lbs. Can bearly tell I'm hauling it.

@@planoman0935 Manufacturers in the 2020s rely on a small network of suppliers for common parts (fuel injection, airbags, brakes, door cards, seats, etc.) resulting in a greater number of recalls based on components not directly sourced from the car manufacturer. I've owned my share of Toyotas and not found them impressive from a fit/finish perspective and the best ones were the vehicles Toyota kept on the market for the longest. Toyota has been on a tear recently are updated a large percentage of their American product line and look forward to see how they perform from a quality perspective. I rented a Crown recently and was impressed with the drivetrain and overall build quality . The fuel economy (avg. 45 MPG) was excellent. Toyota has raised prices significantly and pushes mores expensive trims. The Crown (XLE) was $46K before any markups. Not exactly affordable for a non-luxury brand.

Never thought I'd buy a ford, tried the new tacoma first, really liked it. Tried the ranger out on a whim and loved it. Also 9g cheaper

It is new to the Tacoma but not to Toyotas or Lexus. Also it had modified cooling to increase cooling for off road and towing.

The price tag is the issue with tacoma, 50k for the trd off rd base , similar equipment to the xlt for about 40k

I drove both, ranger definitely felt stronger, turbo probably did kick in slightly lower on the tacoma but it didn't pull as strong. Price vs equipment I bought the ranger. Tacoma was very nice but not 50k nice .

Test drove 24 trd off rd yesterday. To me interior felt cheap seats felt hard. Didn't feel peppy. I've been driving a 2011 limited tundra last 4 years and it felt like a down grade in every way.

Living in the past. With the problems already cropping it's not. The 2.3 in ranger has proven reliable unlike the 48% new parts in the 2.4. Ranger has been sold around the world now for a year and a half taco is just launching.

@@marklihsu look at the history of the two brands over decades. You’re looking at a very small sample over a very short period of time. I have a 100 series Land Cruiser with 325k miles. Toyotas are more reliable, period. Also notice the 1993 mustang in my avatar. I’ve owned it 25 years.

The new taco hasn't been out for more than a few months... The told taco sure but this one hasn't been proven.

The only potential curveball here is the new powertrain. Nobody knows at all how reliable the 2024+ Tacomas are going to be. It could be in line with previous Tacomas, or it could be worse... or even better. But at this point it's not accurate to say it's the most reliable since we don't have the data to support that.

WRONG. The Ranger was launched in Australia around a year ago and has a much broader drivetrain selection than Toyota.
