Great footage! When I turned up in 1979 it still had a Post War 1950's feel to the place ,the surroundings and several of the staff..Mr Bracchi ,Mr Day. I left in 86 ,didn't go on to the Manor for GCSE's which I'm thankful for.. it was time to move on after 7 years! I was sad to hear of the school's demise though a few years back..I think Mr Chittenden would be heartbroken as he set up a charitable trust to keep it going after he was gone. His successor Mr Burston recently died too. I still have 2 friends from Newlands ..we always talk about the place whenever we meet up..the good and the bad. No more prep schools in Seaford now if I'm not mistaken...to think that area along the south coast was full of boarding schools and known as the dormitory when this footage was taken!

Wow! Looks relatively the same as when I was there 82-95 Nursery to Manor. Same sport socks with the stripes too.

I think Mr Copplestone was still using the same mower in the 80's

I was at Newlands School then -- although I cannot remember the year I went. Mr Chittenden was Head. And then it was evacuated to Wales -- or have I got it muddled up. If so, not surprising as I am 93!! It was a great school

Yes it's filmed by my grandfather and features my father who was a boy at the school in the late 1930s. Your headteacher has a copy on DVD, and there is permission for you to use the footage for school purposes.

This is a magnificent montage. Is it from a relative of yours? I am currently Head of Senior School at Newlands and would love to chat to you about this video.

It is amazing - looking at these frames reveals to me how little had actually changed when I arrived at Newlands in 1975. Looking at that courtyard and the changing room with the lockers - I can still remember the smell of the same after a rugby match in autumn. I also had the pleasure of having Mr. Chittenden as headmaster. A certain deputy headmaster by name of Morley should not remain unmentioned (I hope I got it right). His retirement initiated a major transition of the school.

Anyone remember names of other schools in Seaford from 30-70s? Kings Mead, Lady Cross?, Stoke House, ....?

Pilgrims? Not sure if it was a school or not. But I met a lad who said he attended there
