Part 1 of this video is a walkthrough of the basic features of this INCREDIBLE new Bergantino Super Pre bass guitar preamp.
There are several additional features that were not mentioned in the video, so see the listing at www.johnfoxbas... for a complete list of the feature set.
Please NOTE: The 21 preset memories (Mem 1, 2, 3 in each of the 7 Banks A,B,C,D,E,F,G) can each be set to ANY desired settings you want. For convenience for this demo, I stored three clean settings in Bank A, three Overdrive settings in bank B, three Distortion settings in Bank C, and three Fuzz settings in Bank D. But that just happens to be how I did it for this demo, it doesn't need to be organized that way. For example, you might want to just put your top 3 most frequently used settings in Bank A, etc.
Also note that this recording was made from the DI out, straight into the camera through an HK Multimedia iRig Quattro Pro (which has a lot of hiss!) with no cabinet IR or cabinet simulator, which is why it sounds fairly bright. Normally either it would be plugged into a mixing board and EQ'd by the sound engineer / recording engineer, or else you would set the EQ on the Super Pre such that that it sounds less bright, by rolling back some of the high frequencies as I did only in the setting in Bank A Mem 3. I have it set this way for running into an amp and cabinet. In hindsight, perhaps I should have just mic'd the cabinet! But it took 2 hours for the video to upload, so I will have to save that for another day. :-)
Part 2 of this video demonstrates various different settings, both clean and with Overdrive, Distortion, and Fuzz activated, with several different basses.
Here are the timestamps for each bass so you can just straight to the bass(es) of interest to you:
10:07 Fender Postmodern Precision bass with roundwound strings
16:21 Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray
18:08 Bluesman Vintage El Dorado (jazz bass)
19:58 Bluesman Vintage De Ville (P bass) with flatwound strings
22:44 Dingwall Afterburner I with Darkglass preamp
26:57 Skjold Gen 5 / 33"
31:03 Sadowsky NYC Modern 4-24
33:53 Veillette Flyer hollowbody acoustic 6-string
36:34 Fodera Matt Garrison Standard

Thank you for the great review. It also is an excellent comparison of all these wonderful basses, what they sound like when you change settings a bit…

This is fantastic John! It's the first video I've seen of the Super Pre and gives me a good idea of what it's capable of. If you take the iRig out of the equation is the Super Pre fairly quiet? (On clean settings - I'd assume that some noise is going to be introduced on the distortion/fuzz settings).

Yes, the SuperPre itself is extremely quiet as long as you have a clean power supply. If you crank it way up with a distortion on, yes, you will get a slight hiss from that. Also if you add a lot of boost in the compressor. But simply don't do that and then it's real quiet. The headphone amp is pure heaven.

Howdy John. Just picked one up and I'm curious about the sustain. Am I going to have to keep my boss compressor/sustainer pedal to get a good sustain?

Nice demo. Great unit overall. Don’t care for the od/fuzz patches as they have too much buzz on the top end. I have pedals that do that better. No biggie. My DarkRay would sound great through the Bergie. That grey P bass, though! Damn nice.

You are correct about the high end buzz! I made a huge mistake by failing to engage the Low Pass Filter for that demo. I was in a rush to be the first to make a detailed video after receiving the pedal. I was playing it through a bass cabinet (NXT212), and the speaker itself acts as a Low Pass Filter. But the DI output still contained all those harsh highs. I did make a second video with the LPF engaged, and it sounds significantly better. And yes, that grey P bass is awesome! I have 2 of them at the moment, so reach out to me through my website if you would like to own one. The grey one is brand new and isn't listed on the site yet. But you can grab it before I list it if you're interested.

@@RobertWrightOneManCovers Very sorry about that! My goal was to keep the video as short as possible but hear it with many different types of basses, so each one could only ne played briefly. Anyway, this video was not very good because I wasn't using the low pass filter. I should probably just take this one down. You should watch the other one instead.

@@JohnFoxBass For those of us seriously shopping for gear as professionals, we don’t need gear explained to us, we need to access the sounds as simply and quickly as possible, and with a $720 preamp, we are definitely the target market for this type of video. If I may, a clear shot of the product so we can see settings as you change them, and open the video dialog-free with playing examples, stopping to demonstrate features like effects loops, inputs and outputs, and programmability well after we have a clear idea of the sounds available. I’ll gladly check out the other video, thanks for the heads up.

@@RobertWrightOneManCovers That totally makes sense, and I agree with you. Unfortunately, I don't have any video editing software, nor any video editing skills whatsoever. That has been something outside my comfort zone so far, but it's high on my list of things to improve upon when time permits. I very much appreciate your candid feedback, both taking time to watch the videos and provide valuable constructive criticism in a friendly and positive way. I will certainly strive to follow your advice in the future. Thanks!
