Brother Bernie kicked some butt! He was a few months older than me; he and his longtime wife were faithful w/one child. Brother died way too young. But that's what the world does: chews you up; spits you out.

Back after hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans it was discovered that a lot of the houses of worship were destroyed during the storm. All of the news channel sent people in as soon as it was safe. One reporter asked one person how all of the churches being destroyed affected their life and they replied “ well, not that much because we’s gets our chicken from Popeyes”. True story.

Such a shame Bernie ain't here anymore. Us as fans of comedy have well and truly lost an absolute master of laughter, a real real comedy genius. Bernie would have torn some severely sensitive arse holes in today's sweet sensitive/pc world. Bernie was one of those rare comedians who could just walk on to a stage and say nothing and stare, and still have us/the world in fits of laughter, the only comedian I can remember who could do that was the great British comedian from my country of england the great tommy cooper.

No, he probably doesn't give a damn about much criticism about his standup, but it cost him. Plus, it's pretty safe to say that Bernie wasn't trying to make any statement with his comedy either. Would he say that joke today? I seriously doubt it. Not because of complaints, that's not new (comedians aren't milking the whole cancelling concept). Bernie, like all other greats, would've evolved himself and his comedy. The only reason that joke is funny today is because of how shocking it is to hear nowadays. And, of course, how Mac delivers all his jokes. As a society , we've learned more Today that same joke, isn't funny, nor should it be. Personally, I won't even consider the idea of cancel culture until someone provides a list of victims. A few would be nice but still fallS way short of being worthy of be described as cultural.

I agree with what you said at the end about Patrice. Here is a gift youtube: "Patrice O'Neal by bob golub NEW FOUND FOOTAGE NEVER SEEN" He is performing to a deaf audience and the sign language interpreter didn't miss a beat. Possibly the only person to stand toe to toe with patrice and come off equal :-)

One thing about comedy back then it wasn't so damn sensitive nowadays everybody can't take a joke. Certain people are policing comedy like you can't say anything nowadays without someone getting offended.
