Berserk is not that profitable or popular compared to other animes, even the Berserk movies didn't go so well in Japan. I'll put it this way: I'm new to Berserk, and have absolutely no interest in manga, so a *good* adaptation in a medium I can stand, is still quite a bit better (for me) than the excellent original in a medium I can't.

I can understand that. Not everyone will have access to the manga so they can only depend on the next best thing. But it still doesn't excuse the decisions made in this adaptation. Now, for people who have gotten used to watching 3-D based anime might accept this a little better. But this is still supposed to be an adaptation of a well loved and beautifully illustrated story. And, like yourself, for people new to Berserk, deserve much better. I've watched Knights of Sidonia. I enjoyed it. But this kind of style just doesn't fit Berserk. That's just my honest opinion. Also, this series has had some beautifully drawn moments. But that's the issue. There are "Moments." I'd rather the whole anime look like that. :)

That i do agree, better director and better animation, this series took is time from the 90's arc to this arc to be animated, now pretending each panel to be exact as the MANGA is VERY VERY HARD and VERY VERY expensive, Wit Studio and Production I.G both almost went bankrupt animating shingeki no kyojin trying to make it as near as possible to the manga and the graphs, 3D and animation is HUGE, that is what mr Super Eyepatch Wolf and of course he likes Bleach, so he expects Tite Kubo art and animation style as Pierrot studio, but this is not bleach nor shingeki no kyojin, THIS IS BERSERK 29 years of MANGA, so Super Eyepatch Wolf if you want complain write directly to Liden Films, Inc.

I think what's even more depressing is that the stories from Berserk that are over 20 years old would already need a reboot 2 years into the game. I'd be the UTMOST HAPPY if Studio 4C just continued making films of each arc. Maybe a film series of ten movies might be weird but it'd be better than this humdrum of nonsense.

One scene in 1997 looked pretty off. Some soldiers have red blue and purple armor. They're pants are those colors too. Next shot they're beige. Ok fair enough. Then they repeat a previous shot and the pants go back to being red blue and purple. It's something you notice the first time and say " alright, budget restraints" but making them the correct color in the next shot then going back to the incorrect colors is super weird.

But there are lots of moments where the characters just are stiff due to the amount of detail put into it. In my opinion I think Hunter x Hunter has a way more intriguing art style due to the simple yet expressive drawings Togashi illustrates. Although you do have a point with that the drawings of Berserk are a major component of the series.

Cynical Chimp - I mostly dislike the detailed art styles as the mangaka's have less freedom to make the body very expressive. Ofcourse Berserk has a beautiful art style emotion wise, but most action scenes or dialogue scenes look stiff. Ofcourse this is my opinion, this doesn't mean you have to agree with me. Just a certain way of thinking about Berserk's art style and the way of drawing in general.

Thats...actually a really good point, why does the author/illustrator go through such lengths to make a story instead of a book even now when his health is declining and keep updating monthly and then going on hiatus for months on end. even in books we use setting, describe the setting, use metaphors to set tone & mood to paint a picture in your head so you get a better understanding of how it feels to be in the place of the story. visual is everything, even in words.

Or the fact that you can tell a compelling/fun/interesting story with little to no dialogue. Mind you, a good book can "paint a picture" in your head. i'm not saying the art is MORE important, simply that its equally important. Especially with a visual medium like manga and anime, if the art and animation is bad then that means we're only getting half the experience we should be getting. Why would anyone be happy with half the expected product? Especially interesting about the people who say that the visuals dont matter and that its all about the story...then just go read the manga. its further along than the anime, so you'll get more story with the added benefit of incredible visuals. So why consciously go for the anime? Because those people are either 1) metaphorical slaves of "berserk" and will consume it in any form, even while covered in dog shit 2) those people who allegedly only say story matters, dont want to READ the story (ironic considering they are probably reading subtitles) and want to SEE the story take place. they are here specifically for the visuals, to see a story they love in full motion. And they STILL not only accept this shitty visuals, but have the audacity to tell everyone else that the visuals don't matter, even though that's EXACTLY why they are here. They can't even say that they read the manga and are just re-experiencing it here...cuz they can still go re-read the manga again and NOT have shitty visuals. It isn't logical to assume that if an adaptation of something is bad, then its source material must also be bad. Take the example of JoJo that was given in this video. Even though the OVA adaptations weren't faithful, the original story is still good.

Very true. I'm a pretty massive cinefile (don't watch much anime) and I see this brought up a lot. Everyone cares, just not everyone thinks about it. The one difference between someone who is and someone who isn't literate in that area is that one can explain why something does or doesn't work.

Well transformers are modertly popular, but thye are still total shit, and follows a skeleton where everything happens at the exact same point in all of the films. still people don't see it, and think they movies are "good". There is nothing wrong with 'bad' cinematography, there are nearly no one-take action scenes and when present they are not necessarily better, though the actors probably are. Even idiots know on a subconscious level that clarity is not the only message that must be conveyed.

You know it's funny, for a while I wasn't too bothered with this season despite the occasional hiccups... But the last two episodes really really bothered me, especially with regards to the scene in this video where Guts is walking away shrugging off his injuries after Schierke shows her concern and then the fight between Grunbeld and Berserker armour Guts. Like they had the audacity to give us a re-cap episode to build on the hype from the previous week where we saw the berserker armour take on the shape of Gut's inner demon and that followed by that amazing still and then we finally get this week's episode and it just ended up a disappoint. Hell, even Grunbeld's transformation into his Apostle form was underwhelming for me if I'm honest. Why can't the likes of Studio Bones and Madhouse animate this instead?

I personally don't buy the whole "his artwork is too detailed" argument at this point, I think that studios aren't willing to shell out the money to artists so that a high quality adaptation is made because of cop vs pp or because there is a huge fear of potential flop. But tbh, from what I have seen from clips of hxh 2011 (yet to really read or watch the series but gonna make an effort to this summer) in comparison to the manga I fail to see how something like that for berserk isn't possible.

frozenchicken I could watch Berserk 2016/17 on a 4k 80" T.V and it'd still be shit. The inclusion of nipples in the Blue-Ray ver of Berserk is ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT CHANGES. Other than that everything is still a pile of shit, but a pile of shit with a chocolate chip on the side.

Cloud Chan it is pretty common practice among fanservice/ecchi anime's like prison school etc but to be fair I think network TV would censor it outright for broadcasting reasons.

Yup, this shit adaptation only damages the Berserk brand. This anime does poorly and the executive in the office sees the numbers, it doensn't get the adaptation it deserves after that.

Toei killed Toriko, F U C K T O E I , compounded with dropping manga sales, their animation studio killed of all of the toriko hype, which at the time consistently every chapter was 2x, 3x better than the shit bleach and naruto was pulling solely based on hype at the time.
