One of these has a significant flaw with the trigger (my opinion). See which battery-powered, cordless weed eater is best for you and why. All were bought at Lowes. Models reviewed are EGO 56V Power+ Powerload 15", Kobalt 40V 15", and SKIL 40V Powercore 14".

Awesome review! I just bought my first house and was wondering between the Ego and Kobalt. Going with the Kobalt. This video helped me decide. Thanks again!

I was at Lowes just yesterday comparing the same Kobalt & Ego (didn't look at the Skil). Walked out hemming and hawing. So your review is both timely and helpful for me. But one thing I wish you had added to your comparison is the cost of a 2nd battery. A Kobalt (40V) was $80 and an Ego 56V battery was an unbelievable $259 yesterday. That priced me out of the market for the Ego. Nice piece, but I can't afford a 2nd battery and I'm not going to wait around for a charge to happen with any trimmer. So I will be going back to Lowes for that Kobalt. Thanks for the review.

Yeah, that's a big discrepancy between the two. However, I thought Lowes sold the EGO battery for $159. I bought my second battery by buying EGO hedge trimmers for $199 (came with a battery). Thanks for the feedback!

On my opinion electric weeteater made to people want cut small grass and others words if you have lot grass to cut you need gas weeteater ..or if you want extra battery sometimes you see especial offsets like buy the blower for $140 dollar included 56 volt battery keep eye on it .😊

Excellent review. I'm shopping now as my corded Weed Eater is starting to sound like it has a gas engine. Not complaining since it's about 30 years old but it's time to cut the cord.

Excellent review. I just bought the Skil - at Lowe's for $119 - including battery and charger - I will figure out how to make the trigger easier - but thanks! The EGO has a lighter composite shaft, but its $299 with the battery.

Thanks for the feedback! That's a great deal on the SKIL. I hope you figure out a good method on the trigger. And the EGO I bought (no composite shaft) was $199.

I'm thinking about getting the skil, I dont have a big yard. Lowes has them onsale for $140. I already have the mower, the way I see it is I have a 2nd battery. I know It's not the 5amp (2 hr charge, which is why I went with skil lawn mower) but still convenient to have a backup battery on hand. Mower is awesome on full charge, makes me wonder how well the 2.5 would do on it.

Yeah, if you already have another Skil product, having a second battery that works on either device would definitely be handy. I have two EGO products and two batteries, which is nice.

Thank you for the detail review between the three trimmers. I would say if you like the EGO's PowerLoad automatic line feed into the head, trimming power, charging time and if telescoping is not important (depending on the height of each teens) than the lightest weight unit would be the single variable speed carbon fiber trimmer ST1521S at 7.05lb. If you want a "HAVE IT ALL" extremely powerful battery trimmer that is heavier @ 7.5lb that has over 1 hour runtime and still able to charge in 45min with a faster charger. Including PoweLoad AND... Line IQ that automatically advance the line WITHOUT BUMPING to 16" cutting distance than the EGO carbon fiber telescope ST1623T trimmer would be the one to get. I think it's great that you invest into to battery powered tools for the teens so the wont be effected by gas engine noise as well as all the unpleasant weight, fumes and mess of gas and maintenance to deal with. The easier the tool you give them especially the cool ones the more often they will want to use it is what I found.

I bought the EGO with LineIQ that doesn't require tapping to let out line. I went with that because I'm never sure when to tap, and I don't like the idea of wearing out the head by constantly bumping it on the ground. It also has a carbon fibre shaft. I sold my Honda string trimmer because it doesn't even have a speed feed loader, so it's Stone Age in that regard, much too complicated for the simple task of loading in line.
@FixEverythingYourself
@FixEverythingYourself 2 жыл бұрын
Good deal. Yeah, bumping can be annoying. Interestingly, I bought a Walmart (!) weedeater to try out and it also doesn't require bumping. Every time you pull the trigger to get it spinning it releases a tiny bit of line. That feature works well.

I have the Cobalt one and I hate it so far. The string breaks too often- and when you turn the dial you’d think more string should come out but instead it winds the string in and not out (this was right out of the box so It wasn’t me installing the string incorrectly etc.. from what I see on the manual it’s supposed to wind in which makes no sense I remember as a kid using the old versions of these and the string would rarely break and my f it did you wind it out easily.
@FixEverythingYourself
@FixEverythingYourself Жыл бұрын
A couple of thoughts: 1) the string breaking is probably due to it being too small or not good quality. I've almost never experienced string breaking. 2) The knob on the bottom is for adding string to the unit. The knob allows you to put a long piece of string thru the eyelets, then turn the knob to wind the string in. I have a video on it which I'll link below. To extend the string, tap the spool head on the ground lightly while it's spinning. This will release a little but of string at a time and will automatically cut itself with the blade on the plastic shield.

I'm really confused by the battery recharge on the kobalt Every power tool i own is made by kobalt and I've NEVER! seen one of the batteries take 2 + hours to charge. And I run 24v and 40v batteries.

It's legit. I was surprised, too, so I checked the manual that came with mine. The 4.0 Ah battery that came with mine (the one I tested) is estimated to take 140 minutes to recharge. That's basically what my experience is, too.
