If you are in a tree, you have to get all the way thru. From what I have seen the Rage doesn't do that often enough for me. I have killed 2 deer with the Swacker and both times I have pulled the arrow out of the ground atleast 4" deep and the deer pilled up pretty quick. I also like that I bust nocks out the 40 yards with them. I will stick with them until they fail me.

skippygus73 the last two years I've taken two deer with Swacker on my crossbow. Both pass through like butter and leave a beautiful exit. I'm sticking with them until they fail as well. I'm hunting with the on a bow this year and I'm confident I'll have the same results.

No it didn't, the rage did the worst. The other two opened up inside the barrel, as it would on a deer cavity. Which is what those two heads are designed to do. Means more KE left over to cut inside and exit with a larger hole = more bleed out and blood.You seen the Rage didn't make it through the barrel. Also the blades broke. Less KE less bleed out.

Helix 100gr

The Helix might be a good broadhead. I've never shot it. Two blades in my experience can sometimes be hard to tune because they sometimes want to plane. But with a 45 bow that might not be a problem. However, I have shot the little Wasp 100 grain three-blade and they work very well. A very tough head and the blades are sharp. And cheap (inexpensive - not cheaply built). With that poundage I'd stick with a 1 inch cut broadhead.

+HitsOutdoors You could be right, but also, notice how the rage had an entrance hole twice the size of the other two, it seems to have deployed in flight since it's a 2.3" cut when fully deployed, might have bent when it hit the barrel.

Hey buddy.. I know you love Rages because you love gory video games like grand theft auto and some zombie shit and because you are 10 yrs old but they suck really bad! The variables you mentioned are negligible, trust me! They just don't penetrate as well as almost any bh on the market. I know you seen awesome holes in deer and cool blood trails but wait until you walk up to find no blood and an arrow with 1" broken off of it! And by the way, The rage fail every test done in every way on you tube and ragetards still won't believe it! Good luck, hopefully someday you grow up and get some big boy broadheads that don't claim to kill zombies and dinosaurs and have regular packaging.

Andrew, I think its funny that guys like you throw insults at people when making your posts. Im willing to bet in my 32 years of bow hunting I have killed more white tail with a bow than you have probably killed with all weapons combined. Im not sure of my exact number but Id venture to say up around 150 or so. I never said I LOVED Rage broadheads. As a matter of fact. I refused to hunt with Rage heads before they came out with the shock collar because they wouldn't stay closed in a quiver or when bumped on a riser. I hunted with Rage for 1 season after the shock collars came out. I first shot the rage Chisel tips. They have horrible penetration if you hit the shoulder plate or big upper leg bones. Been there, found that out. Then I went to Hypodermics which do penetrate excellent. I stopped using them because of constant blade breaking on impact. Even on perfect shots just hitting rib bones. I have video of one even making a SPARK when the blades flip back and hit the body of the head on impact with a deer. If you had read my entire reply you would have saw that I said I was going to try new heads because of blade breakage. The quest to find a good mechanical head that penetrates well and is durable is a tough venture. I have tried 7 or 8 different brands trying to settle into a good all around head over the past 6-7 years. I have Swhackers for this year and I will know the last week of Sept when Archery season opens how well they perform.

+HitsOutdoors yeah im sorry, it just kills me, i get all upset because Ive seen rage bh fail to penetrate personally numerous times and then i watch hunting shows where the shoot animals with rage and the deer runs off with 26" of arrow sticking out of it and they're celebrating! they get luck and recover animals never acknowledging how lucky they were to recover that animal, and if they lose an animal they never blame the rage and should! they are not only weak but the hyperextension actually causes them to self-arrest and nobody realizes it! they stop because they instantly and violently open to almost 90 degrees! like one of those turkey heads guillotine! anyway I'm curious why you want to shoot expendables anyway? there's a new study that was very well done(F&S?) that shows there not any more accurate than fixed blades and none shoot the same groups as feild points so i just wonder why bother with somthing that can fail when fixed to the same job just as well?

One of the biggest advantages of mechanical broadheads is the cutting diameter, not sure that I have ever seen a fixed blade with a cutting diameter of 2 inches. The biggest fixed blade I could find with some quick looking was 1.5 inches. Considering I shoot a rage extreme at 2.3 inches in would be 65% bigger and most fixed blades are smaller than 1.5 inches. For you to have that many bad encounters with a rage you had to be taking shots that were probably unethical or just not getting the proper shot placement. I have never had a problem with any broadhead I have shot wether it be fixed blade or mechanical, but I only take ethical shots. I'm also glad you know that the earth is round, since that was discovered how many years ago by Aristotle, but thanks for the history lessons. You shoot your fixed blades I will keep shooting my rages and I will keep killing deer and being happy with what I have. One other thing is how do you think the entrance hole size is not as important as an exit hole. What about when you got a deer quartering away and you put lung shot on it and it sticks in the other shoulder. There will be no exit hole most likely, and a Lung shot could require a pretty large amount of tracking. In a thick woods small entrance hole and now we are talking about a deer you are on you hands and knees tracking, maybe not finding. This is part of the reason I shoot what I shoot, but you do what you like and I'll do what I like and everyone will be happy.

wound size factors: 2,3 or 4 blade heads aren't comparable by simple stationary span, strength and sharpness are huge factors, even how far the bh depresses the skin before it cuts And when one ore both of those rage blades are broken or bent sideways(about half the time)the hole gets way smaller way slower. The shots i speak of were broadside shots inside of 35 yds, the unethical part was the choice of bh/arrow. the 5-10% came from personal observation of 35-40 deer with bh holes in them and the rage holes just aren't that much bigger, and they ALWAYS penetrate less, period. Nobody I've ever heard of has ever claimed that an animal was only killed/ recovered because of slightly increased diameter of wound, but countless not killed or recovered because of a lack of penetration! The unnecessary Aristotle information you provided was the only lesson, because i was simply giving an example of mass idiocy, not looking for the source of the idea.

+itscork Mechanical heads normally fly like field points, very accurate. Fixed heads normally stronger. Better at having complete pass through with them. Fixed better at going through bone. But you need to have bow tuned correctly to use them. This will be more time consuming but the advantages of shooting a well tuned bow is great. Your arrows will fly straight and hard. Quicker kills and more pass through shots. Even if you like mechanical heads, tune bow as if you will use fixed heads.

If you're not getting an exit wound, try a different broadhead. You may be losing all of your kinetic energy when you're punching a hole through the first side. The reason I like the swhackers so well is because they open up after they pass through the ribs, allowing them to maintain more kinetic energy and the blades don't dull when they're passing through the first set of ribs. I've had a swhacker pass through the humerus bone and exit through the rib cage. Believe it or not, the blades were still sharp after that and I took another deer with that same broadhead one month later.

ive shot all three of these heads and i hunt with the rages if you cant pull enough weight to get enough penetration to kill a deer with a rage maybe people should start gun hunting im pulling 55 pounds and no deer made it outta sight not all pas through but entrance you can put your fist in i gave my shwackers away after seeing there entrance guy i gave em to shot his biggest deer ever arrow went 8 inches deep after 3-4 drops of blood and a hole day of 6 of us searching deers fine see him on cam all the time ill kill him next year but not with no damn shwacker rage or killzone all i use

One or two swipes on a whet stone and it's sharp again. You shouldn't have to replace them after every shot. If I were going to replace my heads every shot I'd just use a gun instead.

I've shot the Rage chisel tip 100gr 2" cut through 12 deer. All pass throughs and three shoulder hits and never had a blade brake or bend. This is the extreme rage and is not comparing apples to apples

In regard to cut size, the Rage actually out-performed the other two blades because the total cut size, including both the entry and exit holes was 3.5 inches. Total cut size of the other two blades was 3.0 inches each. At least theoretically, even though a blade on the Rage broke it still cut more tissue than did either of the other two broadheads. Again, at least theoretically yielding a quicker more humane kill (more tissue damage and larger entry and exit holes). In terms of flexibility of the blade, stiff (Schwacker) compared to flexible (Rage) that could be either an advantage or disadvantage. A flexible blade might yield greater penetration because it will bend and pass between ribs with less resistance if the blades are not at a 90 degree angle to the axis of the rib. A Schwacker hitting a set of ribs with the blades at a 90 degree angle would lose a lot of momentum. A Rage 2-blade hitting a set of ribs could conceivably result in both blades being bent or even broken although I've never seen or heard of that. The odds of hitting precisely in the middle of the two blades I suspect would be very small. More important than bow tuning may be broadhead testing are a variety of yardages. To see how well they expand and deploy at a variety of ranges. That will vary depending upon the weight and speed of the arrow and of course the poundage of the bow.

New rage will be even better. Titanium and .39 vs .35 thickness

It's good to hear they'll be going to a .39 inch thick blade. There are some great mechanicals on the market now and Rage is one of them. In terms of their function they seem to be about bulletproof now. With the thicker blades they'll be hard to beat. We're fortunate there are a lot of choices. And shooting a particular broadhead isn't a religion where you have to stick with a particular brand or type of head. I'm currently shooting Rage and Grim Reaper in my crossbows and Wasp and G5-T3s in my vertical bow. All the same weight but a mix of fixed and mechanical heads. I think a lot of shooters don't realize that they might benefit from selecting a broadhead style and cut diameter that fits their equipment and hunting style. For instance, although Rage makes some great heads it would probably not be a good idea for someone shooting a 45 lb bow to think he or she is going to shoot a 2 inch successfully out to 40 yards. Probably just not enough KE to get a passthrough.

Finally somebody understands the self-arresting action of the rage! Thank you! It's the most overlooked problem in archery right now.. I bet thousands of deer are wounded and never recovered because of Rages, they're a disaster waiting to happen! I've seen it numerous times! That being said; stick with fixed blades, there are no real benefits to mechanicals, research shows the benefits are pretty much a myth and the risks are just not worth it, fixed blades don't fail!

Therealdeal I'mwrongbut If you really believe that there is no benefit to knocking a huge hole instead of the relatively small hole from a fixed blade you sir are too fucking stupid for words. I’ve been killing deer with a bow for 40 years and when I started of course I shot fixed blades because that is what we had. But I remember well that feeling of dread when I thought I may have hit a deer too far back. It always meant a very long very sparse blood trail. Sometimes we lost deer that were gut shot. I killed around 60 deer with dozens of different bhs. Some were really good and some were not. When rages came out I thought “what a piece of shit” and mocked others for shooting them. Then a friend gave me a pack as a gift. I decided to shoot a doe with one and see what happened. OMG where have these things been all my life!! I’m now at 43 deer and 7 hogs with rage. My 14 yr old has killed 8 with rage shooting 45lbs. All those animals down and NEVER had a problem with penetration. Most have been pass throughs. But when I don’t get an exit it’s never a problem. Also NEVER had one fail to open on contact, open in flight or come apart like all you haters say happens all the time. So I can only assume that you and the others that bash them have either never used them or don’t understand how to properly use them. And what started me on my rant. The benefit that you claim doesn’t exist is when you happen to make a poor shot. I no longer get that sick feeling. If you hit a deer through the body cavity no matter how far back you are probably gonna have no trouble finding him. As far as lost deer, if every deer hunter in the country from expert to beginners like you shot rages, I guarantee the number of lost deer would be cut in half

Happened to me on three good bucks in one trip!! Devastating! and many others I know, amazing how many people ignore these countless horror stories with rage! Shoot heavy arrows and fixed blades and you'll never ever have a failure that isn't your own! Spread the word!

Cat Jack Tell the last 40 deer I’ve shot that. Zero failures Zero lost deer. Even on a couple very poor hits. If you pay attention to detail and make sure you didn’t knock your blades loose in the quiver. They will never come open in flight and they will always produce the best blood trail in the business
