Not really, I don't recommend using it, it is potentially counterproductive. Dual Native ISO is something completely different. I have made a video about that back in 2017.

The main argument for DSLR cameras was the cost of glass being cheaper. However in the past year alone, Sigma and Tamron has made excellent budget glass for just about any system. So i no longer see the point in suffering the cons of DSLR anymore

Even if it was cheaper, buying into a DLSR system in 2023 would be a very short-sighted decision, as I have explained.

@@TheHybridShooter it depends on the budget. Here in Latin America you can get a used entry level canon DSLR with the 28-135 for 70usd. And that is what most people can afford, sadly. Canon, Nikon, and 4/3 DSLR lenses can be adapted to mirrorless, so people see it as a long term investment too.

I totally disagree, at least if you’re only interested in photography and especially if you’re just starting out. DSLRs are really cheap. You can get a quality one for under 100. The glass is super cheap so you can buy a bunch of different lenses to see what focal lengths you prefer. If you end up not liking photography as much as you thought you’re only in for a couple of hundred dollars. Then if you decide later to get a more expensive camera you have an idea of what you like and what kind of lenses you like. A ten year old camera can take just about as good a photo as a newer one.

@@shaananwalsh7513 I strongly disagree with your disagreement, especially when somebody is just starting out. As I have said in the video, there is a different learning curve with DSLR cameras. Everybody is used to smartphone photography with live view nowadays. DSLR is not a user-friendly technology. It would just confuse people who are used to smartphones. Choosing a DSLR actually greatly increases the chance that a newcomer will end up not liking photography. Not to mention that most newcomers are not interested only in photography. Recommending a DLSR to a newcomer is simply a terrible advice.

great picks honestly, I agree with them, I've been wanting to snatch an X-E4 but prices are very high lately and its nice to watch a video where someone talks the truth about the HIGHLY OVERRATED Canon M50, its a super popular camera for "beginners" here on youtube for some reason and its really bad, it is not a camera I ever recommended or would ever recommend at this point.

Thank you for this video. The Panasonic G9 was one of my favorite cameras of all time. If they ever came out with a G9 II with a modern BSI sensor I’d buy one immediately. I’m losing hope though.

I got a sony a6400 in 2021 and I'm really happy that is still considered a good option for 2023 standards. Back in 2021, I wasn't sure if get this camera was the right option due to the constant rumors of sony a7000 series that we didn't seen yet.

Agree 1000% with Panasonic G9. Been using it for about a year now with 2 Olympus Pro Lenses (8-25mm F4, 40-150mm F4). Results are stellar!! Shooting Raw with DXO PhotoLab Elite is like getting a whole new Sensor for the G9 - amazing!! Shooting landscape. I still have my Nikon D850 which I use for birds.

I looked back at some RAW's from my G7 I took in 2017 recently and don't really understand why I sold it - beautiful even through lightroom on auto. I would imagine the G9 with the bigger sensor must produce some lovely images.

The G95 can be had for about the same price as the G85 in the used market, with a lens(es), and also has unlimited recording, unlike the G9, so it is still great for a amateur or family camera system.

Thanks for being correct about the EOS M cameras, especially the M50. There is a cult following for these cameras which I have never been able to understand and which can only be explained by overcompensation for buyer's remorse.

There is a cult following because it is a great camera. It is still overall better value than any of Canons current R series crop cameras. There are enough lenses to cover any need you may have. It's AF is still excellent in 2023 (dual pixel AF shits on Panasonic or Fuji). It sounds like you've never used one, typical armchair expert 😉

@thetoyota86perspective54 I have used one, it is still the worst camera that I have ever tested. M50 video quality is so poor that it doesn't really matter whether it is in focus or not. He is completely right. M50 is joke, much like the cult that follows it.

EOS-M is more capable as an overall system than the R7, R10 or R50... with next to no native lenses, I'd say you're wrong the EOS-M cameras will be around for some time still

No viewfinder. Well, you could get one of those 4 lens Russian turret viewfinders, but..no hot shoe to mount it on.. I have a viewer in the style of a slide viewer, the big cone shape, and would love it if it could pop on the back screen magnetically.. Using a strip of tape isn't something I'd want to deal with after. Does anyone offer glasses that receive the image?

Thank you! 1. Not really. The only advantage would be that would already have FF lenses to use when you upgrade to a more capable. Crop cameras are generally a better choice at that price point otherwise. 2. I don't really know, they are basically just trying to stay close enough to Sony at this point.

@@Al.j.Vasquez why bad choice? D810 is better experience than anything before a7 III or canon r6, r5. If you're lucky for a price of good brand new apsc body you'll have good dslr, good zoom and prime or two. It took a7 IV for me to swap from d850/d810 to mirror less (a73 was a draw, why change if you don't get anything). I'll add that I don't do much video, even now since I have a7 iv. For someone doing strictly photos dslr are not completely dead yet.

@@forthphoto because you would be buying into a dead system which is not being developed. That is a much more expensive option in the long term, because you will inevitably have to switch systems at some point. I wouldn’t say that DSLR offers a better experience, simply because of the size and weight.

I have a GX85 and I'm considering buying a hybrid second camera, mostly for video. Between the G85 and Sony A6400, which one would you choose? I already have a few Panasonic lenses that would be ready to be paired with the G85 but the PDAF and low light performance of the A6400 seems tempting though I'm not yet sure if it's worth paying more for it over the G85.

Gx9 has a horrible low iso performance. In the same conditions g80 would produce much cleaner pictures.

Great video. I think Sony APS-C are the best choice, cause if you then want to upgrade to full frame, then you may have already some lenses (unless you buy only APS-C ones). If ZV-E10 got EVF it will be best of them all. Without EVF it's the best studio YT camera IMHO.

Thank you! Yes, but realistically, Sony APS-C users are rarely buying FF lenses. No EVF on ZV-E10 is the correct choice, as it helps keep the price down. You can get A6400 if you need EVF.

@@TheHybridShooter You do not have some focal lengths as APS-C for e-mount (like 135mm or 70-200mm). I got Sony APS-C for 3years+ and some of my lenses were full frame anyway, but at the end of the APS-C journey I knew I'm gonna get A7IV, so my lenses were purchased in this in mind. And actually lately some APS-C lenses can be sold for more they original cost was (lately for example 16mm and 56mm of Sigma trio - at least in my country) 30mm is now very cheap though. What I mean about ZV-E10 having EVF, it will be better photo camera. Now it's excellent video entry level Sony, but lack of EVF kinda annoying for photos. For video I will prefer ZV-E10, especially any YT related video, since it got this product showcase mode which A6400 is missing. Although for vertical content A6400/A6600 is better because it's screen is visible on both portrait and vertical mode, while ZV-E10 screen hides behind the tripod in vertical mode :D.

It's a good value proposition to go APS-C and to get Samyang FF primes, i.e.: 18, 35, 75 (or 24, 45, depending on ideal focal ranges for personal use case). Keeps form factor small, price down and switching to FF easy. Maybe one APS-C like the Samyang 12 f2 to cover ultrawide. If Tamron release a G2 of the full frame 28-200 with optical stabilization it'd be a dream lens for APS-C.

Thanks for the review! I didn't get why you mentioned Sony a6300 instead of a6500. The last one has IBIS. From my side I'm about to buy the cheapest over 1000usd full frame camera and my choice is Panasonic S5 markI. 10 bit video, awesome kit lenses, 265 codec.

Fairly good breakdown and comparison, yet I am rather curious, as you gave a rather favorable review of the G90/95 camera, by itself, but dismissed it here in this comparison. The crop in 4K is disappointing, but Every Camera requires some compromise, some “work around?” Not my intent to be antagonistic, just looking for clarification? Stay well and Happy shooting. 👍✌📷

All of my reviews are made in the context of the situation on the market at the time when I make the review. There are much better compromises available at the moment, which is why I have “dismissed” the G90 / G95.

My Canon M6 mark ii is leagues better than my iPhone 14 pro. It’s not even close. You would have to spend more than $5,000 on a full frame Canon RF body and L-series RF lens to notice a difference over the M6 mark ii and one of the Canon or Sigma f/1.4 lenses.

@@stonewp You can spend $1599 on Sony A7 III + $350 on any budget Samyang prime lens and it will destroy the M6 II. You will see a lot of difference even with APS-C cameras with Sony made sensors, due to their vastly superior DR. Not to mention horrible quality of 4K video, which is actually heavily pixel binnined 3K video upscaled to 4K. Comparisons with iPhone 14 Pro are complicated due to 48 MP ProRAW mode which will actually give a lot of dedicated cameras “run for their money”.

Canon has been abusing their market position for many years by selling sub-par cameras to people who are invested in Canon system or think that it is THE best brand by default, IMO. R50 has no in-body image stabilization, which is a must-have feature in 2023, so I definitely don't recommend buying one.

It has IBIS, FullFrame, LCDmonitor in every direction, 4k. 2000e cheapest price with glass and i only got like 1000e. What do you think of sonys a7ii? it lacks turning screen and 4k. But has FullFrame and IBIS. Nikon Z6 would be wonderful, but again a bit pricey with glass. And no turning screen, only up and down. Nikon Z5, could be good too but does it have bad video qualities? Screen same as Z6 i guess. Hard choises xD

@so vu Yes, I am 100% sure. Pentax ambassadors like to spread this misconception a lot. It is caused by the fact that Pentax uses SOS ISO scale, Sony uses REI, which is which is lower by almost a full stop. It is shown here, Fuji also uses SOS: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qdClnJhezLayoZ8.html

@so vu There is even my comment underneath that video :) You should not "try to keep the exposure settings more or less the same". You should use exactly the same shutter speed + aperture and adjust ISO to match Sony exposure (you will have to use higher ISO on Pentax). Keep in mind that Pentax uses different ISO scale (SOS) than Sony (REI). The difference in actual sensitivity between these scales is about 1 EV, so if the A7 III and K3 III look the same at ISO 6400, it means that Sony is about 1EV cleaner in reality. It is the same thing with Fuji X-T4, which uses the same IMX571 sensor and SOS ISO scale. It also took me some time to find out why X-T4 ISO performance seems to be magically good. Unfortunately, both X-T4 and K3 III are far behind A7 III if we account for ISO scale differences.

No nikon Z50 ? or even the Z30 ? so underrated ... with a good balance between photo and video , good quality, good auto focus for vlog and glass from viltrox ( 13mm f1.4 , 23mm f1.4 etc .. ) Sigma already announced the 16mm /30mm/55mm for nikon Z mount . I know dont have the same quality like sony a6400 or zv-e10 /fuji xs-10 ( autofocus and Log etc ) but for nikon shooters the ftz adapter and the Nikon ergonomics / Flat profile /colors is good choice with a respected 4k image . By the way you have a amazing channel and reviews . I am always watching your videos . thanks

I love and apritiate Your reviews and videos, but I have to ask, why no Olympus/OM System cameras? I am looking into m4/3 options, and debating with myself for months should I get the G9 or EM-1, EM-5, OM1,OM5, or go the full frame route. I am 100% into Photography and think a more compact lens system with solid quality lenses is benefit. FF looks to be heavy and large.

No particular reason, I simply preferred Panasonic cameras when I was M43 user, mostly due to their superior video capabilities and better value. The compactness of M43 gear can be deceiving, especially if you take the equivalence into account.

@@TheHybridShooter In my country (Serbia), Panasonic is easier to get, definitely, and that is strange, but Olympus has good quality, that is why I am overthinking, and with the S5 as a ff option has almost the same price, makes me think am I going to get better quality glass and more options, with Olympus or Panasonic/Leica combo vs the generic, yet solid, ff Panasonic or Sigma glass which is about 30%-60% more expensive, most of the time.

@@ivanshix FF is cheaper and lighter than m43 equivalents. Just look at something like the Panasonic 10-25mm f/1.7 vs the Sony 20-70mm f/4. $1700 vs $900, Sony has longer range and I think it is lighter too? If you want FF results on smaller sensors, you may end up paying more than FF itself.

@Shariq Ahmed🌎💙 You equivalence is slightly more false. 10-25mm f1.7 is F3.4 equivalent, so closer to F4 than to F2.8 (almost in the middle). There are numerous reasons to use F4 lenses on FF cameras - higher resolution, superior dynamic rage, more detail due to lower pixel density and so on... Heavy a bulky FF is a myth as I have explained numerous times on this channel.

What’s better to get the A6600 or ZV-E10? They both have bad rolling shutter but especially ZV-E10! Major difference is the Gyro Data or IBIS? Which do you recommend because I need a hybrid camera not just video unless you think ZV-E10 is better than both A6400 and A6600!

Just a technical note: Unlike the G80 the G90 can be charged and powered using USB, has unlimited video recording (which even the G9 doesn't have), 120p slow motion, and came in set with the 14-140 II. And unlike the G9 it's got a fill flash, live view composite, and is more compact, and has slightly different ergonomics. The sum of these things could be valuable enough for some to consider it. As for the LX100 (II or not, doesn't matter) - whilst the aperture range of that lens is good, it's not the sharpest lens by any measure. Edit: I said the G80, not G85. Hybrid Shooter just deleted my response politely pointing out this inaccuracy 🤣

As an M50 owner, i feel assaulted 🤣🤣 but most of it is as you put it, the only way to breathe some life into it is by adapting lenses, the M mount is beyond dead and only Sigma and Rokinon put out some interesting glass for it, Canon didn't care. i have 2 native lenses and 4 adapted EF and EF-S lenses, the video that produces is good in color, but yeah, not very sharp. The good thing about the camera is mostly how easy it is to use, the touchscreen and the Menus help you to get things done way faster and with a more intuitive learning curve than with other cameras.

Not at all. The only way I have ever improved my photography is by making improvements to composition, lighting, and my ability to tell stories with my pictures. Enjoy what you've got.

It has very poor feature set. I would only recommend it if you really want full frame sensor and you are 100% sure that you will stay in Z-mount system. Higher-end APS-C is a better choice otherwise.

Body always requires lenses, and Canon has no really cheap/good ones. And i still own the EOS 7D, great cam, but aweful native lens selection. (Sigma 30mm1.4, Canon 60mmF2.8, Tokina 11-18mmF2.8) Fool me once Canon ... Sony/Fuji mount is open.

What about the Nikon Z50? Understandabley theres not so many APS-C lenses for the Nikon Z DX line up, however in my opinion it is a close competitor with the X-S10. I own both of them.

After using it for two years, with all it's aesthetics, film simulations, great lens selections, portability, I still find myself preferring the ergonomics of the Nikon Z body's and that's what counts over everything for me. However I wouldn't say I'm loyal to any camera brand, I'm excited to see if both Nikon and Fujifilm will release an X-S20 and a Nikon 5 mkii this year?? There is not so much information as of yet.

Pretty much with you till you mentioned DSLRs. I will have to disagree. I got a Canon 1D-mk.4 with barely a 1/4 of its life used. Bought used for around $450.00 used with warranty. Thing is a tank and built for war. Mirrorless has and will always be more expensive. Because what? It is newer. M50 yes, tried that. Dead end, agreed. The G9 is s honey of a camera. A lost opportunity probably not to canabalize the GH5. The XLR adapter kit. If it took it, I would have already. A big miss from Panasonic. I have an a6400 and love the little guy. I don't really video that much on any of my cameras. I use a pro camcorder for that. I have another Cine Camcorder I am checking out. So tired of recording time limits, poor audio combability, and so on . If it doesn't sound good, I am not there. Most cameras have crap audio with indifferent Op Amp stages for the Mic preeamplifiers. Worse comes to worse I would use an external recorder and marry in post. The Cine Camera used I am considering interesting is also well under $1000.00, and was a tank, and very famous for its image quality, run and gun, and robust build, and takes a wide multitude of glass. I am not sold Mirrorless has to be for everyone. I like it, but I am not severing my connection to DSLR if it will do the job for me. I will only buy high end to pro bodies so no plastic toy bodies like the Nikon you showed. I did have a D3200, and it was a ton of fun. But I sold that to a friend. She still loves it, and built a nice collection of glass for it. At the end, it is what works for you. Cheers.

I own several of these bodies and they work better than OK. I’m not in the market for new gear. My new mantra is good enough is good enough. As an amateur I don’t need the best gear. I would seriously recommend the Nikon Z APSC cameras, they are very good, great uncropped 4k video, great 1080 120, great photos even in JPEG and wonderful ‘useability’ and ergonomics together with very good low light performance. For example, I prefer to Z30 to the ZV E10. The only downside to the Nikon is the lack of crop sensor lenses from Nikon but you can now get the wonderful Viltrox and Sigma primes, and 35 min recording limit in 4k 30 but I never shoot for that length of time and no S Log but at this budget level most won’t care. Nikon though don’t have all the KZfaqrs signed up to test and with freebies so the cameras get overlooked which is a shame as they are wonderful. The Z30 is a fantastic useable true hybrid shooter, and the in built mic is the best on any camera at any price (ZV E1 may give it a run for the money).

The lack of APS-C lenses for Nikon Z-mount, together with the size of the Z-mount, which is not very suitable for APS-C, are the main reasons why I definitely recommend Sony alternatives instead and why Nikon Z-mount APS-C cameras are not on the list. Sony also has significantly better autofocus, Fuji has better sensors and offers IBIS below $1000.
