I have this TV (65") and it's quite simply a game changer. It still looks like any other high end OLED in a dark room but makes it actually watchable through the rest of the day, even with dark scenes. It's pretty much perfection. If you have reflections of any kind on your TV that bother you, the slight hit in perceived contrast is WELL worth the trade off.

Great comment! Good to hear that you're not perceiving any issues with the contrast. I thought it looked amazing relative to the S95C with no coating, and I'd gladly take the anti-reflective benefits versus a small hit to contrast, but to be honest I didn't notice anything really.

After reviewing many TVs in stores for weeks I purchased this S95D QD OLED. It simply was the BEST looking TV. The design style, the features and picture quality sold it for me. Love it.

I also ordered the 77 inch version. I viewed it in the store. I think the coating is very special and totally different from the typical matte screens you get on pc monitors etc. Also with this matte screen, stand and OCB it is by far the best looking tv on the market right now, also when it is off. Yes you definitely loose some depth/contrast during the day, but I never watch dark content during the day anyway. The one thing that stood out to me maybe most was that this tv is much easier on the eyes. Glossy oleds have so many reflections, in a non light controlled room, that it is very fatiguing for your eyes. You don't notice that your eyes are constantly adjusting to these reflections. After watching many glossy oled's in the store, de S95D was just a breeze for the eyes, even in Vivid store modes. It is like putting on polarizing sun glasses on a sunny day. I usually only watch sports during the day and some colorful cartoons content for my 2 year old. For sports the reflection handling and viewing angles are perfect and brightness more than enough. Dark series/movies we keep for late night in a darker/dimmed room. So with this tv you have the benefits of oled at night and matte screen / almost led specs during the day. No tv is ever perfect, but to many people with normal living rooms this may well be a game changer. The screen also reminds me of Apple adding nano-texture glass to their top spec iPads Pro.

Excellent comment, thanks for sharing your experience. I think the slightly affected vibrancy, etc. is worth the trade off, and there's no OLED TV on the market with a better AG coating right now.

There are some fairly decent automatic settings but I like to warm the colour up a bit with the Warm 1 setting for colour temperature. Still exploring the best settings. Dynamic mode is certainly the brightest but a bit artificial looking.

Yooo absolutely fire video man I only have one question, I’m basically sold on the S95D but I keep hearing people say 2 main things, 1, the “matte screen” is causing a loss of contrast and isn’t a good TV in a dark room “so nighttime use” and 2, people also say that this TV gets really bad temps due to it being a super bright panel and maybe placing the one connect box on the tv itself could cause higher temps instead of something like a TV unit/desk but I’m honestly not to sure there but what are your honest thoughts here man please don’t hold anything back🙏🏼 again super informative video and any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Hey thanks for your awesome compliment! I can't honestly say that I've seen much by way of contrast degradation because of the anti-glare coating. Sure, any coating will have some impact, but it's quite negligible compared to the S95C that I use daily. Temp wise, I asked Samsung how they got the extra brightness, and there's no change to the pixel coating chemistry (nano-crystals) but rather increases in voltage, etc that they feel they can use based on how the S95C performs and their learnings from it. So it prob does get a little hotter but within safe margins. I suppose if anything goes wrong due to heat dissipation, they'll need to replace it under warranty anyway. Still, not a problem you'd want to experience! I didn't notice any unusual heat around the back of the panel, however the One Connect Box was not mounted to the stand. If it was, there's still a gap between it and the panel so I don't think it would be a problem. Thanks for watching!

I watched your vidéo and I've been surprised that you made no comment on the reduced size videos that were displayed on the screen during the maki g of your vidéos. I don't know if these videos were 4k or not but if they were 4k it is totally anormal that they were not displayed in full screen size. 4k videos are normally displayed in full screen size on a 4k screen. I have the 77" Oled QN77S95D model of this TV and I have this problem, 4k movies aren't displayed in full screen as they should. It is totally abnormal to watch certified 4k movies on a certified 4k TV and see only reduced size pictures but you didn't said a word about it as if you didn't even saw it. I hope that your other reviens are than this one...

@@cverrcv Hi and thanks so much for watching the video and your comment. When you say that the 4K movies are not displayed in full screen, I'm assuming that you mean there are black bars at the top and bottom? This is because movies are made for movie theatre-shaped screens (with a 1:85:1 or 2:35:1 aspect ratio) and not TV screens, which have a less-wide 16:9 aspect ratio. Video that's made for TVs specifically will perfectly fill the screen because they are made with a 16:9 shape, but watching movies made for the cinema will not completely fit on a TV screen. That's why there are black areas that appear on the top and bottom of the movie. This is also called 'letterbox' format. You can 'zoom-in' a movie so it completely fills up the black spaces, but then you loose a bit of the width of the movie on the left and right sides, so TVs normally default to Letterbox format so you don't miss anything. You can change this in your settings so movies fill up the full screen if you prefer. I hope this helps and my apologies if I've misunderstood your comment.

I'm sorry but you're totally wrong. Theater screen size movies aren't available for the public and you would have a hell of a hard time to find one on internet. This being said, the download size of such a mowie would be extremely huge, most probably around 250Gig if not more. So, this isn't the reason why the black bars are there. The black bars are used by the content providers to lower the amount of data they must provide to the millions of subscribers they have. As a matter of fact, the truth is that there is no black bars at all otherwise it would take as much data to transmit these black bars than it would take to transmit the full pictue size. The black bars are just a lack of data. Instead to transmit the data of a full picture size, they transmit no data at all above a given height and no data at all below a given height. This way they save a lot of data that they would have had to provide to all their customers. By doing this, they can accept a lot more customers and they can make a lot more profits. This is a totally disrespectful way of doing things towards all their users who have a 4k television screen because it reduces the size of the images displayed on their televisions screen by 30-35-40 percent. As a result, everyone who owns a 4k television is deprived of the actual display capabilities of their televisions' screen. This is a totally unfair and downright dishonest way of acting from the part of these television broadcasters towards their users and a totally unacceptable lack of respect from their part.

I appreciate your point of view, and thanks for commenting! My understanding is different - our TVs are 16:9 aspect ratio while cinema screens have traditionally been wider, usual 1.85:1 or 2:39:1 (anamorphic). It has been this way long before we had widescreen TVs. Feature films made for the cinema are still made with this aspect ratio, while video made specifically for TV (Netflix, etc) is 16:9. So, in order to show the entire width of a movie made for cinema screens on a TV, this means that there will be blank areas at the top and bottom of the picture. It's like trying to fit a wider rectangle into a narrower rectangle, so you need to shrink the wide rectangle down and this results in blank spaces at the top and bottom. You can, of course, set your TV to 'fill' the top and bottom with the full picture, but this will then cut off some of the width on the left and right. In terms of the size of a movie file, yes, you are correct that this would be very large for use in cinemas, as the file format is called Digital Cinema Package (DCP) and this does not use a lot of compression. However, for standard-sized TVs, a full 4K video can be compressed down to about 35 gigabytes (HEVC). This is the full aspect ratio version of the movie, and there is nothing 'left out' at the top or bottom. I don't really know why today's TVs aren't wider, as it would be great if they fit an entire cinema sized movie on their screens without the black bars, but for some reason they settled on 16:9 aspect ratio. It could have been that it was difficult to make TV panels wider in the early days, or maybe they just want you to go into a cinema for the full experience!

Also, it’s set up ‘out of the box’ so not calibrated other than through the SmartThings self calibration tool. I wanted it to be as close and experienced to what a consumer could expect when buying it themselves.

Thanks for watching! The anti-reflective coating also prevents internal lights / lamps from being reflected, plus reflections of yourself. I have the 77in S95C from last year and I can see myself in it as my sofa is fairly close to it. The panel is also 20% brighter, which is good for any situation. Also, I don't know if I agree that nobody likes the matte screen. What do you think is better, a shiny black mirror when the TV is off or a matte one? Personal preference but I'd prefer a matte one.
@MrUpscaleman
@MrUpscaleman 3 ай бұрын
@gadgetguytech yes I agree it was hyperbole and some people like the matte screen. It's like having a giant computer monitor as my tv. I've seen many reviews which demonstrate where the blacks suffer from the screen and where colors were similarly diluted. If the tv is going in a room with tons of light and windows it probably makes sense, but that is not my use case so it's a no-go for me.
@gadgetguytech
@gadgetguytech 3 ай бұрын
@@MrUpscaleman Unlike AR coatings on monitors, etc, this one doesn't have a negative impact on the brightness or the colour, as it is still a Pantone certified screen so very colour accurate, and brighter than last year's model. The new tech means you can now use OLED in a bright room (if that's what you need). For me personally, I have a brighter room but love the OLED look, which means no compromises now vs last year. However, if you don't need it, the 2023 Samsung S95C is a fantastic option and a cheaper price.
