Nice video Rauri! :) I only use two lenses for landscape photography. A 24-70 and a 70- 200 (with a 1.4 TC that gives me 98-280mm). I do want a ultra wide lens, like a 15mm or something. But I cant afford one right now. Good job on the video. You are super pro at talking. :)

@@ThomasRaskPhoto Thanks so much Thomas. Your current lenses with the TC already makes for a great kit! I reckon as you said a wide angle prime would be great if you see yourself shooting wide a lot, I haven't done much wide angle recently which I regret. Thanks again for the support mate.

Great video and super informative. In the past few years I have moved away from the heavier full frame outfits and into the realm of micro four thirds. I often use a one camera, one lens approach. This is often just a single prime lens but is on occasion swapped out for my 14-150mm zoom. This is the equivalent of a 28-300mm full frame lens. I find the much lighter M43 system is kinder on my back which isn't what it used to be. 😃😃

Thanks a lot for watching John! The 14-150mm seems like a great focal range too! The weight of your system is a massive pro! That’s the reason I ended up getting Fuji for my video camera… as another full frame Sony would be way too heavy. Thanks again for the support mate 😊

Some good choices in there Rauri. I think I’d love to try out that 12-24mm GM, expensive I know, but it looks pretty impressive. Budget wise the Tamron trinity is definitely worth a look. You’ve proven your Sigma 100-400mm is worth every cent you paid for it. Thanks for sharing the look around the Soniverse of lens options mate 👍🙏

Thank for this one Rauri. As a potential future customer of Sony (remember the A7rIV is on my hit list) this has proven to be a most useful video. I hadn't considered going with a 28-200 as a first lens option. I'd gotten fixated with a 28-70, but if I can dip a toe into the "Sony" water with something a little cheaper then that is going to be a significant bonus. On a personal note, thank you very much for your support on my own channel. I always look out for your comments, and am very grateful for the interest. Hope that you are keeping well and safe sir.

Thanks for watching Huw - as I'm aware gear videos are not what a portion of my subscribers want to see, so I appreciate your support on this! 👍🏻 There are a lot of options for lenses in the sony world, I didn't touch on Primes as this could go on for days, and Sigma have more lenses which I could have mentioned but didn't. The Tamron 28-200 is a great option if you want to start with one lightweight lens at a great price. You're very welcome, I truly enjoy your videos and discussions as I often end up learning something new or a new way of thinking about photography or gear etc. Thanks again 😁

@@RauriBarron I've checked prices for the Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 this morning, and they are retailing around the £650 UK pounds mark. By comparison the FE24-105 f/4 G OSS (which was going to be my starter lens) is around the £800 level. Not much but every £ counts when just dipping a toe in. Thanks again, and stay safe.

Thanks mate. Interesting comparison! Both lenses are great, but I think for the money the Tamron is worth it 😊. I heard Tamron will make lenses for Fuji now too which I’m excited about. Hopefully will transfer their great autofocus abilities on the Sony to Fuji at a good price

I carried a 16-35mm GM lens for years. But, I rarely used it. In fact, I rarely shoot wider than 24mm. If I want to go wider, I use the 20mm G lens. In the past I've used the 14mm GM which is excellent. So, basically I use two lenses. The 24-70mm GM II and the 70-200mm GM II. Those two lenses cover 90% of what I shoot. I will use the 1.4x with the 70-200 when I travel or the 200-600mm G when I'm home. I just ordered the Sigma 500mm DG DN Sport. But, it will be more for wildlife than landscapes.

Great recommendations and a really good summary of the range of lenses. I have both the Tamron 17-28mm and 28-75mm. The 28-75, in particular, is excellent for its price. It’s sharp, fast and the colour rendition is great. I’ve got the Sony 70-200mm too but hardly ever use it.

Great vid Rauri. So many options out there! Personally, I use 16-35, 24-70, and 70-300, all Sony lenses. I also have the 85mm GM lens that I use for portraits. But I will never buy another Sony lens when there are choices from Tamron and Sigma that are nearly as good (if not as good) for a much better price. Very all inclusive video mate, well done for getting all of this put together! Hope all is well down there and you guys are keeping safe.

Thank you for watching Paul! Truly appreciate it as I'm aware not everyone is into gear videos. That 85mm prime is lovely! I used to have the cheaper f1.8 which was great, but sold it as I wasn't using it enough...I don't do much portrait work. Couldn't agree more about the Tamron options, I think I may picking up a wide focal range at a good price, for those long hikes to reduce the bag's weight, as Nigel Danson has done with his Nikon 24-200 I think it is? Thanks again Paul! 😁

I currently use Sony 16-35 GM, 24-105 G, and 100-400 GM. The 16-35 Sony-Zeiss f4 is great in the center, but just plain mushy on the sides and corners. I returned 3 copies, it was so bad. The 16-35 f4 PZ G is, however, a great choice. My current two lens, lightweight solution is the 16-35 GM and Tamron 28-200. I will be moving to the Sony 20-70 f4 G and 70-200 f4 Macro G pair, because they are so amazingly sharp!

Really good video Rauri! Good recommendations! When I use my Olympus kit I use a 12-40mm (24-80mm FF equivalent) and 40-150mm (80-300mm FF equivalent). Both F/2.8 lenses. And I have a 1.4x teleconverter for the telephoto. I have a bunch of other lenses for it, but those are all I usually bring along! With the Fuji I only have primes! 50mm, 80mm, 150mm and 250mm. The last three are adapted, and I don't use the 80mm often. But lucky it has a bunch of resolution if I need longer than 250mm!

You speak a lot about Tamron and in my opinion you did missed the newer 17-70mm f2.8 and the classic contender against the Sony 70-200mm would be the Tamron 70-180mm f2.8
@RauriBarron
@RauriBarron 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching mate. Yeah I didn’t mention those lenses, difficult to talk about every lens in one video. Reason I didn’t mention the 17-70 is that it is for Sony APS-C, and as you know there are SO many lenses for the Sony system so to keep this video concise I kept it to Full frame lenses (as titled). As for the 70-180, a good lens too, but I thought for the same price, (although a little slower at f4) the Sony 70-200 f4 with stabilisation (unlike the Tamron 70-180) and extra 20mm reach was a better option for landscape. (Here in Aus the Tamron 70-180 is $1,999 RRP and the Sony 70-200 4 is $1,899 RRP). Hope that helps clarify my reasoning 😊 thanks again for watching mate I appreciate your comment too.

re Tamron I'm not sure what a "non standard focal length" actually is
@RauriBarron
@RauriBarron 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is also their marketing/production strategy. Standard is the “market standard” focal range that most manufactures create for full frame lenses. So for wide angle lenses for example, you’ll see a lot of 16-35/12-24, but 17-28 on a zoom is not common. But that is how they are able to get production costs down whilst keeping it at a fast f2.8 👍
