In this video, Chris shows how he installed several YoLink leak sensors with a speaker hub plus a bulldog motorized valve control in his house. This system detects leaks and automatically shuts off the water supply to prevent damage.

I have this system as well. Got it about a year ago. I got the kit on Amazon with 4 leak sensors and the original hub, no valve actuator. I have been pretty impressed with the reliability and battery life so far. I would like to extend the electrodes with a length of wire and a little sponge on the ends to reach into tight spaces, just haven’t done that yet. An added benefit that I didn’t foresee, it lets me know when I have a power failure at home as the hub sends a notification when it goes offline.

I discovered YoLink almost two years ago and now have 20 sensors and valves. I have temperature sensors that automate the AC for the Rabbits, I have valve controls so I can turn off the main house or the garden on/off, etc. I have a driveway sensor, etc. and I use door contacts for my guest house. I also use Motion and leak sensors.

Thanks for a great video! I installed the hub, water sensors & Bulldog just like you did for the house water. What would you suggest to protect my hydro air heating system from a burst pipe? Should I put another Bulldog on the main water feed to my boiler and sensors in a pan under the air handler which is the most likely problem area? Thank you

Not sure it’s needed. It must have a pressure relief valve. Are you afraid of freezing?

To make it easy, I just put it under the front so I can get to it. Granted, it won’t sense a drip, but it will sense a puddle.

I’m going to be adding this. I wish it worked with HomeKit. My question is if I’m running the sensors off the hub can they also be paired to the controller if the power goes out. At the same time. My situation is when I’m away in the summer and I get a leak can I still control the valve thru the internet ?

As I showed in the video, you can directly pair the sensors to the valve so it will still work without internet or power. But if you have internet and power, the app lets you control everything remotely.

I have the little manual ones that just emit 200db and just use batteries. I have one under the water heater and the slop sink next to the washer. This is some high tech stuff

The bulldog valve in your video looks a bit different than the one you linked to on Amazon. If I don’t have a power outlet near my valve can I still use the bulldog?

Read the listing closely. I think the new version can use AC or battery.

Great video. Question, do you happen to know what torque is delivered to shut off the main valve? Will it work on valves which get tough to operate over time? Any experience with this by you or viewers?

It moves slowly and has a lot of leverage. I’d say if you can move the valve by hand, the actuator will turn it.

I wonder if insurance would raise your premiums if you have fire sprinklers installed and this system shuts off the water in presence of water. You know... the stuff you want in case of a fire.

I recently had water damage from a backed up condensate drip line for my air handler in the attic. Not only was the drip line blocked, but the float shutoff switch in the drain pan was inoperative. Water had been building up in the pan for days until it overflowed and came through the garage ceiling. This would've been a LOT worse if we were out of town. Subsequently, I found this product and immediately purchased it. This is a small price to pay for peace of mind, and it's only a fraction of the cost of my insurance deductible.

Is it worth having an extra for the hot water valve or not, most leaks are from the main water .

All water pressure comes from the main. Shut off the main and the hot water stops flowing as well.

Do you know if using the hub and using the direct connection without the hub is a "one or the other choice "? I like the idea of the hub for alerts but don't want a leak to occur because my WiFi went out. So... if I pair the sensor direct to the Yolink controller, does it stop also working with the hub?

You can absolutely do both. If you pair them directly, the valve will close instantly whether the Internet is available or not.

Hi, I've been looking for such a bulldog valve, however is there a way to connect the bulldog valve to close the valve when power is switched on and open the valve when power is switched off, Without using the mobile phone?

I’ve only seen it with different types of home automation controllers, like ZWave and WiFi. I don’t know if you can hack it to work like you described.

Pretty nice affordable option, especially since you do not need to rely on the internet. Would be great if the sensors integrated with other hubs so you could have online access without needing another hub in the house. I have a couple of older smartthing water sensors around the house...but the batteries do not last long, and when they die, ST never seems to know, just reports low battery, even though they are complete dead ...

Can make announcements on alexa devices also with yolink skill enabled. So can get standard yolink hubfor ethernet hookup and use alexa to announce if you have them around the house. Great system and the distances are amazing.out door sensor good for announcing people approaching house. Or inside mailbox at back for mailbox opening.

My fear with any battery-powered radio sensors - I can install and test them today and next month a battery gets lower and the signal maybe won't reach the controller - how can I be completely sure? I'm looking for a wired sensor option...

The transmitters send heartbeat signals with the battery level. I expect to get an early warning before the batteries die.

Color me skeptical, but I wouldnt be surprised if some part of that system failed within 5 years. Probably that chintzy looking bulldog valve.

Like smoke detectors, if they aren’t regularly tested, they are useless. In Australia we tend to have campaigns to replace smoke detector batteries at the start of summer daylight savings, and to test the detectors, but still people don’t do it and die in fires as a result.

Wow that’s a great idea! But it doesn’t help you if you’re not home. I’ve seen double stacked sump pumps.

I have two pumps in each pit. Different brands that turn on at different water levels. If the first can’t keep up and water level gets higher, the second pump will turn on. Both pumps drain to different locations so the outgoing water doesn’t pump more water than the drain pipes can handle.
