We're in Mexico's second biggest city, Guadalajara in the state of Jalisco. Home to tequila, mariachi and a tonne of delicious food. This video is set in Guadalajara's regional wholesale market, Mercado de Abastos which is home to some iconic street stalls in Guadalajara. We start with the famous dish of birria- a slow roasted goat stew, chilaquiles and carne asada and finish with menudo- a beef tripe soup. What a morning of eating. We hope you enjoy this Guadalajara street food tour!
What we ate and where we ate it:
1. Birria de chivo at Birrieria Aceves, 44530, Calle 4 453, Comercial Abastos, Guadalajara, Jal. Open daily 8:00am to 1:00pm
2. Chilaquiles with a side of sirloin at Menuderia y Carnes Asadas Alfonso, Av Mandarina L1, Comercial Abastos, 44530 Guadalajara, Jal. Open 7 days 7:00am to 5:00pm. Closes at 3:00pm on Sundays.
3. Menudo at Menuderia Chela, Calle 2 4-202, Comercial Abastos, 44530 Guadalajara, Jal. Open daily 6:30am to 2:00pm.

Don't you love it when total strangers in Mexico say "buen provecho" or enjoy your meal. It is such a gentle and human way to acknowledge people's existence around them. Unlike in some European (sorry), Canadian or American cities. You have to love Mexican culture and society for their openess and friendlyness. Try to say "buen provecho" wherever you are sharing a meal in public spaces and you will make tons of friends. :-) :-) Once again, fabulous video! Thank you!

@Dario Diaz Yes. My 2nd or 3rd day in Mexico City I ordered some food para llevar so am sitting at a table just chilling. A girl walks by, taps my arm, says "buen provecho" then leaves the resto. Happened twice more during my trip. Super friendly people indeed. 👍

Remember. Menudo. You have to eat with freshly made tortillas or toast with chips. Always coriander, onion and lemon. If possible avocado slices and chopped radish. You can also make your tacos of the same dish of menudo. Many people roll up the tortilla and wet it with the menudo soup

"Beautiful mess of deliciousness" very aptly described!! There is absolutely nothing attractive about refried beans on a plate with mush of corn chips, smokey meat and cheese but it sounds absolutely scrumptious. l can only imagine the smells wafting from those food stalls. Those Mexicans sure do eat well and hearty breakfast to keep them going all day long. Glad the Internet was playing nice and you got this one uploaded. ☺

Great start to Guadalajara! The birria I had in CDMX looked exactly like yours but I didn't note if it was goat or beef. Shoot. And I'd be all over your chilaquiles. Had them before (in the U.S.) but each time the tortilla seemed to maintain a bit of integrity...the mushiness of yours is very appealing to me actually. Haha. And the carne Asada was a nice touch. I've always had chilaquiles with fried eggs. That plate shot @11:45 is absolutely perfect I'd say. Dang. 👍👍

Hi Tosh, I love chilaquiles with fried eggs too- we've noticed at the market fondas they're often served all mushy like the ones in this video. I've gotta say I prefer the ones which still have a bit of crunch- Tortas al Fuego where we filmed the al pastor in CDMX do a great one. Where did you have the birria in CDMX? Don’t judge me. 😀 I did very little research on birria but went to a restaurant called Birrieria El Rancho based on an article I read about Luche Libre. It’s a popular place to get birria and beer after the wrestling event at Arena Mexico. Fun Luche Libre...delicious birria!

MMMMMMMM..birria! Goat is not a commonly available meat in my part of the US, and it's a shame. I love the slightly gamey flavor of it, and in a rich broth like you had, it's the perfect combo. Love the market dining experience. Brilliantly done video!

Hi mate! The food is so great here! We love it 😄 we find the dishes that are a lot of work so the birria and the menudo etc tend to be a bit higher which makes sense given the long cooking time and work that does into preparing the dishes.
