@@deadkemper I drive about 110 km each way basically half the days of the year. When temperatures get extremely cold in Canada, I get a fast charge so I don't get stranded. These two things aren't exactly great for maintaining a strong battery. Particularly when that battery isn't liquid cooled. I haven't lost a ton of range (maybe 10% max), but it has been enough to be noticeable at times. It's important to note that part of this is circumstance. We could not longer afford gas and needed to find something more economical. We were limited in choice due to the extremely high pricing of EVs at the time we bought. Maybe we would have got the Kona if we had the choice, but honestly, I think things will work out best for us this way, since EV innovations have improved so rapidly.

Depends on the beholder. I honestly think the new Tuscon is hideous and looks like a newer 2007 Ford Edge.

For real I would never in my life buy a Honda Ridgeline but I love the Santa Cruz

Imo their Palisade is the best looking SUV out there.

I don't like the exterior look but I do like the massage seats!

Really agree that this is a good looking car. Although, I just saw my first Kia EV6 in person, thought it looked really good. I think I like that slightly more from a design perspective.

It isn’t an SUV. Actually shorter than you think so it s a hatchback with a tall roof

I love hatchbacks, but I like the taller sitting position of Hyundai. I had a Subaru WRX and now a Fiat 500. The taller sitting of the Fiat 500 makes it less hassle to get into or out of the car. Smaller cars are lighter and more fun so yeah, this car is big.

Hyundai's are still very well built. Less quality issues than teslas. My 2017 Ioniq has been perfect from day 1. Yes, it feels cheap on the inside but it's very reliable. And cheap to own too.

I'd ride a bike first. Hard pass.

Kia is ugly 🤨

I loved both when I test drove them, but my issue with the kia was second row head room. Not really that big a deal for most people but my family is slightly above average height and I don't wanna hear them complain any time I hit a bump😂

The EV6 also doesn’t have rear wiper, unfortunately.

But a 50k electric car ends that conversation. Never understood people who try to justify an electric car to save 20 bucks a week (if that) on gas. Buy it if you like it but as a money saving proposition, its ridiculous.

the frunk is smaller on the AWD model, but at least it's there. on the Marvel R performance there's no frunk at all compared to the non AWD version (called luxury here for 2WD).

The problem is independence of the charging network right? Unlike Tesla, which has their own proprietary system, other brands all share electric charge stations with different standards. I think it will get better once the companies can agree on a single system.

@@rnjsghlckd Except the problem isn't with the system - everyone except Tesla has already standardized on CCS. The problem is that the charging networks can't figure out user-friendly payment methods and they can't be bothered to maintain their infrastructure. There is no excuse for those sorts of really basic failures, and the fact that they are so widespread is because outside of Tesla, EV charging is an industry largely propped up by the government. The government will pay the subsidy whether or not the charger actually work, so why bother?

@@ARCNA442 To my understanding, there are some differences between countries. However, you are correct that CCS has, for the most part, been standardized in respective regions/nations (more or less). But, my question is with the hardware. I don't contest that there are issues with the payment system, but I wonder how many problems arise with different hardware standards between companies such as BMS. Since the charging of a battery depends on many factors (temperature, voltage, and current), I wonder to what degree has this become an issue?

It is interesting to note that both the Electrify and Petrocan chargers appear to be the same model.

Except Apple actually assembles solid devices, unlike Tesla.

When I eventually but an EV (hopefully around this time next year or sooner), I will predominantly charge at home.

In Quebec, charging infrastructure works just fine, at least in Quebec city

I have to agree somewhat with charging infrastructure in Ontario - I have an e-Golf and the car is FANTASTIC but the battery is small (35kwH). To go any trips longer than 2 hours, I need to charge on the road. I have had experiences where the chargers don't work (or are broken). Support on these chargers is bad at best - the person on the other end doesn't care. If a station is broken, it can be down for a year. Most of the stations installed by the government at Tims and Scotiabank have never worked. I have 5 accounts Flo, Electrify Canada, Chargepoint, Ivy, Greenlots - all with money on them that you can't exactly bring down to $0. Why we can't just swipe a credit card is way beyond me - that should be legislated. (to be fair, you can consolidate Flo and ChargePoint ...and possibly more... on one card - they allow roaming). Flo is the best by far - especially the units installed at Canadian Tire locations. The home install of a L2 is well worth the expense and effort (especially with gas prices where they are at now, you will get the return on investment). Home chargers are robust and always work. The cars, especially G1 where they are the same car as the ICE equivalents have STUPID features like fuel doors that lock!!! and freeze up in the winter so you have to spend a few minutes chipping out all the ice before you are able to use a charger at all. I think we're getting better - Niagara has more than one fast charger now (the area between Stoney Creek and Niagara Falls used to have little infrastructure and the QEW in that stretch really sucks battery for some reason...probably speed :) Still nowhere nearly on par with Tesla - which will be my next EV for sure.

Tesla's reliability and build quality sucks.

Deman !9904 good thing they have the best customer satisfaction of any car brand. You can lack on build quality when every other part of your driving experience outshines the competition.

With any version higher than base you don't technically qualify for the current rebate which is set at 45,000. Mine is on order and is right at 61k ish, but hyundai canada is giving you the 5,000$ regardless at this time. Who knows how long that'll last.

@@CebsJr from what I'm understanding as long as the base model is lower then 45k$ all the trims will get the rebate. It's the same with the EV6.

Also, I may not be in my right mind, but I keep my Stinger GT's nav up to date and do use it. In Atlanta, at least, I can get traffic data via HD radio, so I can see traffic and slow downs. I can navigate around it. I love having the navigation directions in the heads up display. For me, that beats using a map app in Carplay. If Kia had better voice commands and POI search, I'd probably never use Carplay for navigation.

@TheStraightPipes Well, for one, the EV6 has a moonroof that can be open and not fixed like in the IONIQ 5 and other EVs. Btw, can you guys address this stupid trend of EVs only have a fixed glassroof? All the automakers seem to be into it lately.

@@TheStraightPipes Off the top of my head, I can think of 3 or 4, but I watched an in depth comparison of the two and came away pretty convinced that the EV6 met my needs better. As noted by Gerard, the sunroof that actually opens is big, for me. Even though the Ioniq 5 has a slightly larger storage area, I think the Kia's is a bit more usable because of the difference in shape. Physical buttons on the Kia for things that are only in the touch screen menus in the Hyundai. To the best of my knowledge, Hyundai hasn't announced N variant. Coming from a Stinger GT2, I'm more likely to buy a eGT or whatever they end up calling it. While not a feature, per se, I really prefer the more driver centric cockpit and controls for the Kia. I prefer their shifter. I prefer the tuning knob to the tuning flap. :)

It's obviously true that EV6 is better then Ioniq5, both are great though. That's because EV6 has aerodynamic shape and significantly better driving range. I love the look of Ioniq 5 more than EV6 but it seems like Hyundai sacrifices some practicality because of its design.

Very true, though I will say that for your basic road trip Electrify America will probably serve you fine. I was able to get from Chicago to NYC in a similar amount of time as a Tesla with it's charging network within 5 min of eachother. Only downside is that it might require more planning

I own a Tesla and drive ICE all day for work. One pedal driving takes like less than 10 minutes to get used to and it has never interrupted my ability to drive ICE

@@WarrenWeekly Yeah but the Ioniq 5 does BOTH! You can one pedal drive and you can coast. Coasting is great! Set regen to zero and you'll get big range increases. That's how my 2017 Ioniq rated at 200km range got a world record of 420km (in europe). By switching off regen and using coasting.

@@ChristianLanctot you can coast in a Tesla. You just don’t take your foot all the way off the pedal.

@WarrenWeekly that's not real coasting. And its really hard to do. You've only got a few cm of foot travel to keep it at coasting. And if the terrain changes, like going down a hill or up a hill, you're not longer coasting, you have to readjust. It's not really a coasting mode. You're just taking advantage of the spot where the on foot driving part of the software just doesn't accelerate or decelerate. So it may feel like coasting but it isn't. With real coasting you can actually accelerate going downhill without doing any fancy footwork.

I actually bought a 2017 Ioniq EV pretty much BECAUSE of the HEV/EV review to Ottawa (also bought a '18 Ford Focus EV thanks for that review too), hope to see more eco road trips to Ottawa in the future! If you do a meetup here I'll buy the first round 🍻. We have an older house with only 100amp service and we just got a ChargePoint Home Flex charger that can go from 16a-40a "on the fly" with the app. So if we are running AC/cooking dinner I may put it on slower charge rate. But electrician said not to worry really unless AC+Microwave+Oven+Dryer+Car...but that would never really happen anyway.

Didn't Elon say he wanted to open the supercharger network to other EVs? I will never buy a Tesla, but if I can use their network with my future EV(s), that would be a huge help.

@@snakeeyes9246 I think I heard that as well. My guess is that Elon / Tesla wants too much money from other manufacturers for the privilege of using the Superchargers. So, nobody has "licensed" the network for their cars.

Excactly. Defrost should be physical but a/c is a/c, dont have to touch it. I have a same problem with no hd back up camera complaints, how clear do you need to see something blocking you…

The climate control in my car is manually changed all the time...it's not always to the most comfortable temp or fan speed for me, let alone the other people in my car who may have different preferences (some are cold when I'm burning up, and vice versa). Not to mention, the fan speed is not always optimized for the situation (when you need much higher speeds to cool/heat the car, or much lower speeds if it's highly unnecessary and borderline annoying).

@@MichaelPanzer The system works just fine, as it was intended by design. Ambient temperature preference is just one of the most preference based things in a car. It's hardly a specific need.

Same here, I use a vehicle to get to places for work and for fun, without a reliable charging infrastructure it is a hard sell to me also.

@@mannyechaluce3814 how often do you drive farther than 260 miles in a day? On road trips, I get. For work, not so much since you can charge it to 100 every night if you would like.
