So true the ram can't go any faster than the maximum speed it's capable of

It only runs as fast as the CPU and GPU allow it, so if you have a slow CPU or GPU, the RAM can only go as fast as that.

Musicians! If you think you need a ton of Ram, watch this first! What a great video, Carey. I was totally going to buy a 64gb kit for my PC for my music studio. because more is better right? Well, I tested the most extreme case of recording tracks on my new PC. I put more layers than I would ever use normally. I still had 1gb of RAM free. Same goes for video editing, I tried more layers than I would ever use. Same result. I had 1gb left over.

I have ddr4 3200 memory in my hp elitedesk 800 G2 mini that's 32gb and it don't run any faster than say 2400 why I brought that over say 2400 it was like %50 cheaper

Carey, my new pre-built PC has 64 GB of RAM (two sticks). My motherboard has room for two more sticks (four in total). My motherboard is dual channel. I was not clear on your section regarding a dual channel motherboard. Will I have slower performance if I add two more of the same memory sticks, to bring me up to 64 GB? I want to run multiple virtual machines, giving each one 16 GB of RAM. That is my reason for wanting more RAM. But will I see a performance hit? I am not asking for what a benchmark test would report. I am interested in general use of the PC. Would someone notice a performance hit, for general use, by having 4 sticks in a dual channel motherboard? Thank you.

when intel chips say that ddr4 ram is only supported at 3200mhz, what does that mean exactly? If I were to overclock my 3200mhz ddr4 to 3600mhz would it be limited to what the CPU supports? (hope I articulated that right...)

It’s your motherboard that determines how fast your ram runs. That said, not all motherboard data is accurate. A Dell optiplex 7010 (Q77 chipset, I7-3770 CPU) can run 36 gb of DDR3-1600, but other folks have had success running DDR3-3200.
