Most likely. They bring up how when one of them knows who the clone is, it never ends well. That is likely a reference to a point in the comic where one of them got this nasty scar on his face so when he did create a clone, they both knew who the clone was. This resulted in the clone killing the predecessor. So odds are something similar happened in the show's timeline where one of the twins did realize he was a clone and killed the other.

Most likely. The original probably couldn't comprehend one of their clones killing him, since he knows he's the original. That's why later down the line, the clones stopped making it obvious who the original was.

I love this great writing, even for "minor" villains, not just being killed off in a one episode or season appearance and just to make the heroes/protagonists level up. Without someone trying to go into comic spoilers for me, I'm interested in what their true goals are, besides trying to kill/attack the president and white house.

@@ThatScythe By the last chapter of the comic they help clean up a certain spoilers mess, and when invincible comes to stop them because its been a while and he thinks they're villains, they basically politely explain that they were only ever evil because their cloning science was illegal so they had to resort to criminal activity to be able to do it

They also only surrendered after the rest of the force decloaked. That confirms to Cecil that they still think of themselves as a threat. If they had just surrendered to the first few troopers, Cecil (and Pete) would have been a lot more accepting of them. Similar to the 2012 Avengers movie where Black Widow asked Bruce Banner to come with her. After Bruce agreed, she told the rest of the force to stand down.

Yeah they're a somewhat comedic play on smart villains that are also strong (e.g Bane). The comedic aspect of it is the fact they behave like educated, even nerdy tacticians; but also like colossal meatheads. I loved them in S1. Hope they eventually team up with cecil (I haven't read the comics pls don't spoil anything for me)

I feel like that’s a universal gag for a character to have gestures portrayed with another’s limb (like holding an unconscious person’s hand, disconnected arm, or a skeleton’s arm). Not a bad gag, it’s just interesting to see it in multiple projects.

That's what happens when you have to deal with your exact consciousness and sub consciousness implanted in god knows how many clones. All he does is talk to himself and the way little events in their lives diverge the same exact person. Otherwise he might go totally insane. I'm positive they both know they're not the original but when a clone creates another clone it's up for grabs to claim they're the OG.

A new one is created for a reason, it's because there is an absence of one so the one that remains after and clones a new one is the original.

EDIT: I've found an explanation that more than 2 would make it obvious who the newest clone was (since you only need one to copy the memories) and would result in either enslavement or murder. So the "sweet spot" theory was kinda correct.

He once cloned himself but the original had a scar that proved he wasn't the clone and treated the other as an underling. The clone quickly killed him and made a new clone with both of them now arguing over who is the original clone

That’s what I like about Invincible. There are characters you believe are going to be important that are immediately killed & then there are characters you write off as unimportant but later get substantial parts in the story.

Not having read the comic, I'd think that if they teamed up with Cecil it would largely be in their abilities as genetics experts since an open plot thread is Cecil's attempts to unravel the mysteries of viltrumite DNA. The Mauler Twins as they are now aren't nearly strong enough to threaten Omniman, but it's possible that they might steal that DNA somehow or help to create some weapon that's effective against them.

I'm surprised a billionaire hasn't tried to hire them to clone his body and copy his mind into the younger one. The billionaire then introduces his adopted ward who will be inheriting the billionaire's wealth/property/influence. Or for a dark version where a person is kidnapped, their body cloned, and the memories copied over. The copy is then interrogated/tortured while the original is left in a cell. There can even be several copies being matured at a time, so by the time they break one of the copies they can just copy the mind over from the original and start again.

Nolan was almost there in the show, absolutely there in the comics. And a lot of characters in the comics will be there too. Spoilers: Angstrom Levy, Dinosaurus, most pure-blooded viltrumites, absolutely Thragg, space racer, Allen, the flaxans, and even mark. Hell, even some of the lesser villains like omnipotus and doc seismic are better than everything Cecil could throw at them (though idk if that’s true of show Cecil who tends to have more tricks up his sleeve than superhero teams and reanimen)

Not quite. It’s mentioned in the series how it gets messy when one of them knows they’re the clone. To prevent that, there could be something encoded into the machine. Maybe it deletes the memory of which table. Maybe it creates a false memory of which table during the copy process, but leaves the original in the original.

It transfers all long term memories but probably not all short term memories, meaning that they don’t completely remember what happened leading up to the cloning.

It goes into detail in the scenes that weren't shown. But when their brains are scanned to the new body, their memories, experiences, ideas, and personality are identical. They both believe they are the original. It's not damage, it's that they truly believe they're both the real one and nothing could convince them otherwise.

The machine doesn’t damage their brains, they intentionally do this, It’s explained that if the clone knows he is in fact the clone, he would grow resentment and try to take place of the original by killing him. Also they have done this procedure so many times that there isn’t a true original anymore. Just identical clones to the original producing more clones when one of them dies.

@@JamesTAdams It stands to reason that the actual original perfected the process alongside how to make perfect copy/paste of his own knowledge and memory unto a clone. Of course as per the twins own admission, knowing who is the clone and the original never ends well, so it's safe to assume neither of them is the original, they've always been clones, but by having that constant conflict it forces both to strive to be better than the other, so should one fall, the better one keeps the legacy going. It's nothing short of genius.

I think those kind of issues can be circumvented with how many times the Mauler Twins clone themselves. The bigger issue would be if the original makes a clone after becoming horrifically scarred.

While they compete and rib each other and occasionally stab each other in the back, it doesn't seem like they view themselves as two separate entities. Their competition and occasional fratricide keeps them strong. The weaker mauler dies, the stronger mauler makes a new clone off of his baseline, and the mauler twins as a singular entity become stronger for it. In this way, it makes sense that they'd be willing to clone themselves even knowing the danger that clone would pose to them
