Best OLED Ultrawide - LG 240Hz 45GR95QE-B Review
LG might have just released the best OLED ultrawide yet with the 45GR95QE-B. The 45GR95QE-B is a WOLED 240Hz 3440x1440 45" Ultrawide monitor which is very immersive. The question is should you buy it.

Bought this monitor and took a chance on an open box for 45% off and 12 months same as cash. In other words I got it for $845. It did not have a single scratch or dead pixel. So far I've had it 3 months and have put several 100 gaming hours on it. It is a very satisfying monitor. Same screen, only fixed curve as the bendable Corsair Xeneon 45WQHD240. OK it's not a 4K but at 1440P it looks real good. Does the job.

This is easily the best gaming monitor on the market today (and the 27" version if you don't want the size, curve, or high price). It can get eye-squinting bright when setup correctly. It has basically the lowest input lag on the market (even in Vivid mode with DAS off, it's total input lag is still only like 5 or 6 ms, let alone with DAS on). At 240 Hz & fps, it has the same motion clarity as the fastest LCD TNs at 400-500 Hz & fps. It's size is awesome, being basically an ultrawide version of a 36.5" 16:9 monitor (a 49" 32:9 is only the height of a 27" 16:9 monitor for comparison). Once setup with Nvidia DLDSR, it looks insane on another level further (there's a video with instructions on how to get DLDSR working @ 240 hz). Regarding settings: - update to latest firmware (takes 1-2 hours, set monitor to a low brightness of 0-30 % while doing this) - when firmware update finished, unplug and re-plug USB cable, or was it the power cable? Firmware update screen will instruct you to do this, don't worry - when monitor is back up, go to the OSD "General" --> "Reset to Initial Settings" and reset the entire monitor, there have been some weird issues when this step isn't done after a firmware update from multiple users (including me) - disable "Smart Energy Saver" in the monitor's OSD menu "General" --> "SMART ENERGY SAVER" - for HDR content, use Gamer 2 mode, it's a huge leap in HDR highlights brightness over Gamer 1 mode - for SDR content, Gamer 1, Gamer 2 (brighter), or Vivid (brightest) - increase contrast to 72 with all 3 picture modes (Gamer 1, Gamer 2, Vivid) (can do higher but will start to loose very, very light grey details) - get a $7 LG service remote - in the service menu, disable "CPC enable" (increases brightness, disables the brightness vignette effect) - in the service menu, disable "LEA Refresh enable" (slightly increases brightness further) - in the service menu, enable "HDR Mode" (for SDR content only) for yet even more brightness - set black booster to 60%. 50% crushes blacks while 65% over-boosts blacks with the darkest blacks not becoming true, full black anymore (grey/hazy/milky). 60% is the true "default" in my opinion as it has no over-boosted blacks (still allows the OLED pixels to go to true, full black) while not over darkening parts that aren't supposed to be full black. - look for a video that shows how to get Nvidia DLDSR working at the full 240 Hz (8-bit and 10-bit RGB) and use that if you have a good GPU. Try 2.25x. If that's too much for your PC, try 1.78x - set DLDSR smoothing to 50%, don't go lower than 33-ish %. Smoothing with DLDSR is not the atrocious smear-fest smoothing that normal DSR uses. DLDSR's smoothing is actually a negative-sharpening effect. Unlike standard DSR, DLDSR automatically applies a sharpening effect. This can over-sharpen the image. You therefore want smoothing enabled to reduce this overly applied sharpening effect. I was playing Halo 2 the other day in SDR mode with all the above settings and, man, it's like eye-searing. It sometimes looks like it's HDR content with how bright some of the highlights get with the above settings. And it looks even more insane thanks to Nvidia DLDSR 2.25x.

Can you provide a link to a LG service remote compatible with this LG monitor please?
@Spinelli__
@Spinelli__ Жыл бұрын
@@rola8597 You're wrong. According to rtings, the Dell has 3.5 ms of input lag while the LG has 3.0. Not that that really matters as no human will ever notice the difference. Same with the brightness, if using the correct mode and settings (and even more so with a $7 service remote for 2 or 3 additional brightness settings), you'll get about the same brightness with the LG as the Dell in SDR and HDR. Of course there is higher pixel density with a 3440x1440 34" for one simple reason, it's on a tiny monitor. In the end, regardless of pixel density, it's still a joke of a size monitor. 34" ultrawide is an ultrawide version of only a standard 27" monitor. 27" is a joke. It brings nothing even close to the immersion and general enjoyment of considerably bigger monitors. I got tired 27" monitors in, like, 2018. 38" ultrawide is the absolute minimum in my opinion but 45" blows that away too. Lower pixel density is barely noticeable when gaming, and it becomes incredible when mixed with Nvidia DLDSR. 800R curve isn't too aggressive at all. I don't even notice the curve. Lastly, anything under around 180-200 Hz with OLED is a complete waste of money with regards to motion clarity because the sample-and-hold refresh method that OLED uses (like LCD) is a huge motion clarity bottleneck under around 180 Hz/fps regardless of how much faster the OLED pixel response times are. 240 Hz/fps OLED, on the other hand, is incredible and has around the same motion clarity as a fast TN LCD in the 400-500 Hz/fps range.

Matte finishes: They do it for office and productivity users that work in environments with bright, overhead lighting. It seems that they wanted to create a gaming monitor with broad appeal. A matte finish doesn’t make sense for a monitor marketed at gamers. We’re neck beards and play our games in the dark 😅

Same, 144hz fine but 240hz better. 1440p still looks very good on a 4K panel and I’m currently playing with my 3080 on my X90J Sony TV, when I can’t run games in 4K like I want to, I drop it down to 1440p and a lot of the time I can get way more than 120 so 240hz would be perfect for that. It would be perfect future proofing.

I got this monitor on a good deal. Wasn't impressed at first though (image/pixel cleaning process helped quite a bit), some really good hours of gaming completely but failed within the first 24 hours!..... Big green band down the screen. Was definitely a hardware issue... Anyway, I didn't just go return it, I had high hopes so I exchanged it for the exact panel, and couldn't be more happy. New one didn't require any initial pixel cleaning process, the HDR was awesome when adjusted in Windows color settings, and finally just running some youtube HDR content just brought everything out. night and day from the defective panel.

I'm already using a 3840x1600 monitor. It's a nice compromise since 5040x2160 would be 25% slower in games over 4k. While 3840x1600 is 25% faster. I always thought 21x9 could be just a little wider. Not double 16x9 ultra ultra wide. But maybe double a 16x10 monitor. I'm sure there is some manufacturing reason though. If they do make a 5040x2160. I'm going to be hella frustrated as to whether to buy one. Maybe a 5090 would fix things.

Honestly, the brightness is fine. I have this monitor and with two light bulbs that are cooler and brighter than normal - 3500K, 1100 lumens (75 W equivalent) instead of the standard 2700-3000K, 800 lumens (60 W equivalent) lights - I use the monitor at between 0 and 30% brightness. Only when I get into full-on immersion gaming mode, do I increase the brightness to 100%. With the brightness at 100% + contrast at 70-72 % + Gamer 2 for HDR content (huge brightness increase compared to Gamer 1) or Gamer 1, Gamer 2 (brighter), Vivid (brightest) for SDR content + disabling "CPC enable" and LEA Refresh enable" in the service menu + enabling "HDR Mode" (SDR content only) in the service menu, I get blown away by the brightness. All those added up gives the monitor awesome brightness even in my small bedroom with 2x bright 1100 lumens light bulbs. When playing in the evening/night in almost pitch dark, the monitor makes my eyes squint it gets so bright. Even in the daytime, the monitor was lighting up an entire wall 10 feet away whenever there would be an explosion in Battlefield 1 (HDR, Gamer 2). It's a beast but just needs to be setup correctly. On top of that, when playing with Nvidia DLDSR, it makes the picture look insane. On top of all that, OLED @ 240 Hz has the same motion clarity of a fast TN LCD at around 400-500 Hz. It's the best gaming / entertainment monitor on the market along with the other monitors based on the same panel, the Corsair and Acer version (Acer version not out yet).

The edge stretches quite badly when gaming n the side black bars when not playing games is a deal breaker
@Spinelli__
@Spinelli__ Жыл бұрын
Stretching isn't the monitor's fault, that's natural because of the increase in horizontal FOV. I wish game developers implemented some sort of warping/distortion effect to get rid of the stretching. It's barely noticeable in some games. All depends on the game's FOV, camera, etc. The black bars on the side just means the particular game doesn't allow an ultrawide aspect ratio. That's extremely rare. I'm literally playing games from 2001 and they all work perfect - no black bars, extra horizontal vision thanks to the ultrawide aspect ratio. I've never had a game not work properly with the increased aspect ratio width. It's very rare.

Never understood why they make 1440P monitors bigger then 27" especially wiith a low pixel density. I wouldn't advise anyone thinking about a oled now to save your money till this year. The next batch is going to be crazy can't wait .

I understand the display is very immersive, but with that GIGANTIC SIZE isn’t that like 60ppi?! So technically games would look better at 27” 1440p 16:9 right?? Same thing with 4k: A 32 inch 4k oled will look better than a 55 inch 4k oled?? Someone please help me out here

@@thedisplayguy But you will of course notice pixels way more at 1440p on a 45" UW then a 27" 16:9 :P For me 32" 4K is the new sweetspot, I even turned off AA in most games and still looks better then my old 27" 1440p. Also noticed that DLSS looks much crisper in 4K then 1440p so that's a bonus when u need to crank those FPS :D

dont understand how anyone can genuinely enjoy a screen bigger than 32 on a computer desk. Mine is 32 inch and ive a seperate mini desk for my keyboard and mouse thats about a metre from the actual monitor, any closer you cant appreciate the whole image at once. Anything greater than 27 and you start having to move away from the desk. Seeing people in videos with these massive screens and a viewing distance of 20-30cm makes me laugh. Hope they release a 4k qd oled in the near future

@@akosfelber1775 unfortunately there is no data afaik. Smasung did tease 34 inch and 49 inch together 2 months ago, there was a g/sync ultimate logo near 34 inch. My guess they will empty the warehouses from v1 odyssey g8oleds first, they are already on sale for 899 compared to 1500 price on release. I am waiting for 34 v.2 oleds too.

IMO if you're going Ultrawide you might as well go to 32:9 so you it's like a 2 monitor setup without the bezel inbetween. And 16:9 is a far more standard aspect ratio. But I know there is only one or two 32:9s out there that I know of at the moment. With small screens like those found on laptops, I actually prefer 16:10 or 3:2 ratios because it seems bigger on a small screen.

@@Sphynx00 I agree if you're only using a game for one screen. I'm talking about using it for a 2-screen setup.
@Sphynx00

@@overnightdelivery It's a gaming monitor though, it's not suppose to be for work/task processing. It would also need to be the central monitor because of its curve so you aren't putting a secondary monitor to the side as your gaming monitor. If you just want it for a 2 screen workstation then get a far cheaper and more practical wide-screen lcd, this is a bad monitor choice for that. If you talking just generally about aspect ratios and not this monitor in specific then sure, 32:9 is fine for 2 station work, although you don't really want it to have as much a curve. If that's what you mean it's just really weird to bring it up in a comment section specifically reviewing this monitor.

32:9 sucks. Way too wide relative to height. A 49" 32:9 has the same height as a tiny 27" 16:9 monitor while a 45" 21:9 has the same height as a 36.5" 16:9 monitor (which don't exist). In other words, 49" 32:9 is a super ultrawide version of a standard 27" monitor while 45" 21:9 is an ultrawide version of a standard 36.5" monitor. Even with the upcoming 57" 32:9 monitors, they're a super ultrawide version of only a standard 31.5" monitor. You would need a 65" 32:9 to get the same height as you do with a 45" 21:9. 65" 32:9, apart from being a long ways away (57" hasn't even come out yet), will be ridiculously big.
