Um... are you the best cat Mom ever or are you the best cat Mom ever? You do know how special you are, right? Who adopts an ENTIRE litter of kittens AND the Mom, deals with tons and tons of behavior and health problems, finds the Mom a new home so everyone can be happier, buys all these enriching toys (looking at the wheel videos we see the cat tunnel in the background). Those kitties hit the jackpot with you. I love hearing about what they are up to. It's just so sweet to see the special bond that you have with them.

For Michael Crichton, there was a book I read last year called Disclosure that also gave me some of the same vibes. Basically this woman is accusing the MC of SA and he is innocent. In the end he uses the sci-fi elements from the book to prove his innocence and get her fired, but it was a little too vindictive for me. Like there was too much joy in it and it gave me vibes that the author wouldn’t believe SA accusations. Also there was some weird language around the woman that basically accused her of sleeping her way to her position in the company. Part of it might be that Disclosure and Andromeda Strain are much older than other books like Timeline. I’ve learned to avoid his stuff written before 1990

@kathrinholweger8743

I read I contain Multitudes last month and also enjoyed it, but enjoyed An Immense World (same author) even more. It’s about how extremely diverse the world can be perceived by all the different types and spectrums of senses across all the species and how we as humans sometimes for selfish reasons, but sometimes due to ignorance, incapacity os sensing the same things or lack of scientific knowledge interfere with how animals can navigate their environment and lives. Where I found Multitudes interesting, but sometimes dry, I found Immense World quite readable even though the basic approach was the same (author traveling and interviewing scientists all over the world). Oh, and my cats also have speaking buttons. Only one of the two is using them, but she’s quite proficient. You have to be very engaged with modeling and reacting, though. My cat unlearned one of her buttons during the winter when I couldn’t react to “terrace”, because there was some safety issue I only could fix when spring came around. It’s fun and so cute, though, when they “talk” to you.

13:15 hey… as a child who was abused physically and emotionally by her mother, my father tried to get full custody and the court sided with my mother anyways. Just remember. What you learned or what you think is the standard for all courts all over the world, is in fact. Not the standard. And not true. 🤷🏻‍♀️ there are a lot of judges and courts who will side with the mother regardless of the father’s best efforts.

Yeah, every man that I know that has been through divorce fought for his kids and none of them got 50/50. One literally had to pay to make sure court documents say he requested more time, so that if his kids ever ask he has receipts for them. Maybe Canada has a better track record, but here in the US mom states are 100% still a thing.
@carriecongo7616
@carriecongo7616 2 ай бұрын
This is what I assume about Michael Crichton. I know he was divorced with a child so I’m guessing the ex wife took his money and got custody of the kid. The court probably gave custody to the wife. Because that is what happens, they side with the wife. As a writer he probably writes to what he knows. He was a medical doctor and a divorced father.

@@encyclopediaofelizabeth those judges are not stupid and have seen it all, and know who’s going after 50/50 just to get out of paying child support. Also judges side with mothers because that’s who 99% of the time takes care of the kids before the divorce
@encyclopediaofelizabeth
@encyclopediaofelizabeth 19 күн бұрын
@emryborge7027 The way you worded this makes it look like you think my anecdotal cases weren't awarded 50/50 because they were just trying to get out of paying child support. The cost of a contested custody battle can be anywhere from 3k to 20k. None of the cases I know of were men just fighting to not pay child support. They were fighting for more time with their kids. The bottom line is that the default should be 50/50. Personally, I just wish people would think a lot longer about having kids and marriage in general. In the cases I know, the parties involved never should have gotten married, much less had children with each other.

Law School?! Very cool; I had no idea. The cat wheel is awesome. Michael Chrichton: I loved Jurassic Park. I heard he was a complete jerk in real life but I didn’t get any details as to what jerky things he may have said or done. Gardens of the Moon: I loved the world of the book but it’s basically laying the groundwork for the rest of the series and can be kind of a slog.

I read Next by Michael Crichton a few years ago and was surprised that I liked it,'cause I don't really read sci-fi.I've kept it in my memory as a good book,so that's something,considering I avoid the genre 9/10.A bit dry,for sure,but I was working night shifts at the time and found it really engaging in the boring hours when there was no work at all,finished it in 2 nights. I still got Dragon Teeth by him,sitting in the tbr stack ever since I read Next,have no idea when I'll read that one,but I feel like Crichton is my go-to author for the very rare moments when I'm in a mood for sci-fi

A Netflix sci-fi series I really enjoyed (that plays with time) is called Bodies.

I’ve enjoyed Michael Crichton’s works in general, but one thing I’ve found is when a character leans super hard into a way of thinking they are typically villains or later have their opinions turned completely on their heads. So I’ve always viewed that as less of a reflection of the author and more of a choice in his writing style to highlight character flaws that typically do resolve in the end (either positively or negatively for the character). I will say there was some controversy over one book, State Of Fear, with the climate change, but it was a book written not long before he died and personally I would just skip. He’s got some other amazing books in his back catalogue, tho! But you might want to skip Disclosure since it’s about the SA of a male character

Funny. I just read Timeline by Michael Crichton and the beginning was super dry. Ended up loving it and gave it 5 stars though. I've been wanting to get to Prey.

Don't read Sphere. It's misogynistic and a bit racist in my opinion, and I know it will absolutely infuriate you. After 3 Michael Crichton novels, I'm pretty convinced he had a very low opinion of women and possibly people of color.

I'm 42 years old and I have never read a non-fiction. I am not counting the ones I had to read for university classes. I started a handful, but I can never get into them. I have accepted it as a fact now that non-fiction is not for me. On a different note, I have read "14" and gave it 5 stars. I would not want to read a continuation however. I want to let it stand on it's own.

Crichton was definitely a conservative a climate change denier. He died in 2008. State of fear is a book by him that is essentially book arguing against climate change

Prey is def one of the weakest Crichton books (avoid Next and Micro too) Sphere is much better from what I remember but I read that a solid 25 years ago lol Even though he's been dead since 2008 I see there's a new book by him and James Patterson just out - Eruption. Will read it, am a bit skeptical it'll be good, but it's about Volcanoes 🌋

lol, I have a Norwegian Forest Cat who is 22lbs. But my normal sized cats are 11lbs each and he's a full head taller than them when they sit. Like yes, he's also fat. But he's just built big. I had an orange tabby rescue who was always over 20lbs too. But when he was really sick, skin and bones, see and feel every vertebrae in his back... he was still 14lbs. Some cats are just big

I had a NFW and he was 18lb at 2years and they don't stop growing until they're 5. Gonna be a big boy. All our cats have been huge (16-18lb normal street cats nothing special) but he is just built different. It's like picking up a dog. Like a boxer or something. Just a brick wall.
