the song of achilles blew up on tumblr a few years before it came up on booktok and i'm so glad everyone is also going feral over it because i think about it Constantly and i cried so much during it

Verity was also a fever dream read that i initially liked and the only reason being was my brain had to be cooked after it. After like 2 weeks i actually thought about it and went wait… It is probably the most insane book ive ever read so it gets that award

Left me in a crying puddle OR kicking/giggling are also my reasons for rating a book 5 ⭐. I feel validated 😂

Omg The Song of Achilles altered my brain chemistry. I had to stop reading because I couldn’t see through my tears UGH it was so GOOD

I feel really good that I am not the only one who rated Verity 5-star and am now questioning every single decision I have ever done in my reading career. That book was the first thriller I ever read and I was so shocked by everything, but looking back now CH really just tried to make it as insane as possible and make the characters completely crazy and unreasonable. I am ashamed but at least I'm not alone.

I will pay you to read Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier if you haven't yet. A classic that could very reductively described as "Verity if it actually deserved 5 stars"

And I’m not sure if anyone else has commented this already or not, but in “maybe you should talk to someone” the author explains in the beginning that in order to keep confidentiality she has massively changed details about the patients and even mixed a few patients into the same person just to make sure no one will be able to identify them. Just a fun fact which I thought you’d want to know ☺️ I loved that book too, need to read it again actually, it’s been a while!

If you haven’t read Circe yet I highly recommend it. Anyone that has read Song of Achilles absolutely needs to read Circe. It’s a million times better than SOA and actually has great pacing and characterization. I thought SOA was deeply okay and Circe is a 6 star novel for me. I believe the next generation of AP Lit students need to read it.

When I read short story collections I rate each story separately and then take the average for the whole thing. Unless the vibes are immaculate and I'll just instinctively give it 5 stars like any short stories Karen Russell or Zadie Smith writes lol

Omg. We have the same taste in books. Your “I will Never Shut Up About This” is full of books that changed my life. Know My Name is truly my favorite memoir I’ve ever read, it was beautiful while honest and upsetting. I agree, The Midnight Library was so important to me and my mental health. If you like entertaining science fiction, I strongly recommend listening to Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. It’s SO good and wholesome. So happy to have found your channel!

I loved this video. I wanted to chat with you throughout the whole thing. So many books to add to my list. I strongly suggest John Green’s “Anthropocene Reviewed”. It is my always recommend to everyone. He reads it for the audiobook recording so both book and audiobook are so good.

However My mom and I read The Night Circus many years ago when I was in college. I couldn't get into it and found it incredibly boring until the last 3rd. I didn't get the plot at first, couldn't visualize it, it was a struggle to read through.
