Good morning Krista, are you still using this method for staking up your plants? I am completely amazed... you have the best ideas ever. Is your pole cedar?

Hello! This is my favorite method… I also do moss poles but these (wooden ones) are the strongest for huge, heavy vines and leaves. I’m working on doing a video where I take one of my plants off a moss pole and move it over to a stake like this one. I grew another giant red emerald philodendron and it’s falling all over the place😂💚🪴 looking forward to posting more videos! Thank you for watching and commenting 🪴💚♥️

The pole …I got it at Lowes in the outdoor section. I’m not sure what kind of wood it is? My guess is cedar! 💚🪴

Great video I have 4 or 5 plants I wanna stake up. I was worried about hurting the roots when placing that large of a stake in them. I'll definitely remember not to wrap them around the poles too! Looking forward to purchasing some plants. 💚🦋

I have a question.... I hope it doesn’t sound rude or make me look dumb 😬 Why don’t you wrap the vine around the stake as you work your way up? ( so it fits more of the vine on the stake and less will have to be cut.) Is it worse on the plant to wrap the vine around the stake? or is it bc it’s just a pain to unravel the vines when you need to repot? I am just curious bc I tend to wrap my pothos around the stakes so more of the vines are attached to the pole. If it makes the leaves grow bigger (staking then straight up) I better go redo my stakes ASAP! Lol I appreciate the tip!

Hi Jessica! Great question! The idea here is NOT to wind vines around, but rather to go straight up the pole and cover the entire pole straight up! I wish I would have said that in the video! That’s how the pros do it to grow HUGE vines and leaves … the idea with an immature plant is that it’s being “trained” to climb, because that’s what it does naturally in nature anyway. The problem of winding vines around is that it’s temporary… your leaves will “pinch themselves off” over time, and leaves will die. This happens LESS when vines are trained straight up the pole, though I do get one or two leaves that kill themselves by growing under a vines or bending backwards. Imagine this: very-pricey and gorgeous giant monstera adansonii leaf that grows funky under a wrap around effect on a pole, leaf snaps off…. Granted, this usual only happens on mature plants fighting for space or whatever…immature plants not so much. Anyway, the goal is to go straight up, grow giant leaves, control the vines WITHOUT winding them around the pole… it’s hazardous once the plant is established and creates problems later on. A plethora of things to consider: pests, replacing post once plant outgrows, less handling, etc…also to consider is this: a climber wants to adhere aerial roots to a source. If it’s wound around, it cannot adhere as it is it’s nature to eventually do… therefore, it’s not going to have the same yield as a plant that is staked properly! Oh this too: once the plant grows aerial roots (I’m talking about the kind where you cannot take it off the pole) That’s the goal ! My mama plants cannot be taken off their poles. They are held on by Arial roots now, crazy huh?😂🥰🪴💕 Thank you so much for watching, commenting, and sorting me here on my channel!!! And, don’t worry, when you decide to unwind your plants and stake them straight up, remember: propagation leads to double and triple growth! Re: my INSANE rhaphidophora tetrasperma! Haha OOOoooh one more thing: you can go down the pole if you don’t want to cut at top!!! I did that method on my giant monstera! But keeping them in line up n down is better than winding 💕💕🪴🪴🪴 Also, you will thank yourself in 3 to 5 years when you have a giant monster plant that yields amazingly huge and gorgeous growth!

Totally off topic, sorry, but I have questions about rhaphidophora tetrasperma. I’ve heard mention of tissue culture vs non, and the different propagation methods of each, but nothing clearly states if you can take a cutting from a mother plant of either and propagate. Can you take a cutting from either type and get a propagation to root in water or sphagnum? Does tissue culture vs non make a difference in the plant and how it’ll grow into an adult plant? There aren’t any 100% answers online. I bought a tetrasperma from a grower in Florida and once it gets bigger I want to propagate it, but I don’t dare because if a tissue culture plant only propagates via tissue culture, I don’t want to cut the plant and not have it grow roots. I know you’ve done a video on them before that explains how to tell the difference between a tissue culture vs non, but if you have time (which you probably don’t because we know you’re always super busy) maybe do an update video on these questions?

A video on this would be great! Love that idea. I’ve been propagating mine for a decade now (not a tissue culture). My biggest advise is to let the cuttings sit out, callous over, for a LONG time. I let mine sit on the counter and callous over for a full 24 hours or longer. Then I pop them into water. They are known for easily rotting when you try to propagate. I have almost zero failures when I wait 24-48 hours before putting them into water.
