This is my initial unboxing of the Sunex 3580 3/8 Master Impact Socket Set. There is nothing sponsored in this video and I have purchased all tools seen with my own money.

Been using my Sunex impacts for 5 years now, professionally, and have yet to break or wear out any. Absolutely worth the money.

I was torn between the Tekton full 3/8' impact socket set vs the Sunex or Neiko master sets. For me, the expanded range of the Tekton full set was why I picked it. It goes from 1/4" all the way to 1" and 6-24 mm. The others only go from 5/16-3/4" and 8-19mm. With the Milwaukee stubby impact and electric ratchet, you can get into much tighter spaces than with larger 1/2" drive when going above 3/4" sockets. And going down to 6mm means you can use the stubby, ratchet, and socket set for the vast majority of fasteners. Plus the Milwaukee impact has enough torque to still be effective beyond 3/4". And the Tekton U-joint swivel is the best in the biz. Torque Test Channel did a comparison between different brands and the Tekton came out on top because of the lobed design vs pin design.

I’ve used that sunex set for over 2 years, it’s great. Even as a novice, you’re showing great wisdom: don’t hitch to a particular brand. Every brand has something to offer. Judge them all on their merits and how that particular set serves your needs. Great review. Def (IMO) a set worth owning.

As a diesel tech i used sunex thru school and in real world for their price and quality hands down the best impacts. If money wasnt an issue i would buy matco impacts but like I said i love all my sunex 3/8 1/2 and 3/4 impacts.

I went with the Sunex 3351 set. All metric 3/8 7-22mm in shallow, deep & swivel. A pretty good range for 3/8 & quality looks tuff. Came in oiled up too! Mines actually dont fly all over the place tho lol

If you glue a piece of foam to the top of that case might help with the sockets falling out of their spot.

Making a thought out choice, knowing the pluses and negatives of that decision is wise. There may not be (Probably not) a perfect choice; there are usually comprises. Understanding how to evaluate them w/o becoming paralyzed by indecision leads to smart decisions, and better ones in the future as you evaluate the choices from prior choices. Subscribed. If you can impress me with one vid, I look forward to more.

I love the Tekton chrome, but I bought that same set for the Cr-Mo steel. Tekton uses Cr-V steel for their impacts. I also wanted the swivel sockets. Tekton for chrome, Sunex for impact. 👍
@donmundt3573
@donmundt3573 3 жыл бұрын
The Tektons have to have much thicker walls to give them strength due to using Cr-V. The Sunex using Cr-Mo are able to be thinner walled while providing the same strength. Overall the Sunex are much higher quality than the Tektons.

@@donmundt3573 I'm new to tools and sunex 3580 is out of stock everywhere. This might be good for me to understand tools better. What's the point of 3/8 being impact? Is that necessary?!not much torque in 3/8. Is it better to have different sets than having one 80 piece master set?

I would just add a foam padding and that should take care of sockets falling all over the place. One other note, I would’ve preferred triple square bits instead of e torx, and hex instead of nut drivers. But those universal sockets make up for it.

I'm also looking for Good impact set on a budget. For my 3/8 metric and SAE I went with a gearwrench set on sale on Amazon. What I like and prefer is Molly over CV sockets which Tekton are CV👎.For my 1/2 I've been comparing prices I'm going to go with Capri set and are Molly as well for $220 for both SAE and metric shallow and deep set.

Recently got the Milwaukee 3/8 Impact Socket Set 43 piece. Mine were completely drenched in lubricant of some kind. Like a few were actually dripping when I picked them up. LOL Wiped them down, leaving a thin film. I guess that's good enough.

I've been a slow build for my sockets. Started with shallow and deep chromes. Then got midlengths then shallow impact swivels. And finally deep impact swivels. For 3/8ths atleast. In 1/2inch I dropped 200 bucks on tekton metric sockets. 10-36 shallow and deeps no skips.

The Sunex impact sockets and Tekton impact sockets are both excellent in terms of value for the money spent. These days both the Tekton and Sunex impact sockets are roll stamped and laser etched. But, I agree that for the money, the Sunex socket sets are among the best value. I have used both brands regularly and both have held up quite well; as good as my Matco impacts for far less coin. Buy either one, you won't be disappointed.

Pretty hard to go wrong with what you get for the price. My only comment is if you plan to carry them in the case, maybe add a piece of foam to the inside of the lid so it holds the sockets a little tighter.

I purchased the Capri 3/8 Drive Master Metric deep and shallow set 8 to 22 mm with aluminum rail. $75. The Capri has better fit and finish than the Sunex. And with the few Sunex impact sockets I have I have noticed the Capri finish is more durable. Although, either are better than the Tekton or Harbor Freight.

Those swivel sockets would cost 400-500 dollars alone from a tool truck... if they both have lifetime warranties, it doesn't make much sense to pay 3-4 times the price. I'm using Sunex as my impact brand and Tekton for my chrome socket. However, tektons 3/4 inch impact set is cheaper and comes with a ratchet so I will be getting that. I'm in the diesel industry so it's NEEDED haha. Good video and im glad you brought up the negative reviews so I can lookout for those double sockets haha

The tekton set is cool but they have a thicker wall compared to the sunex plus that master set comes with more variety. Plus sunex encourages use on ratchets and breaker bars. I can also attest to the quality of sunx. I use them on giant caterpillar machines like 657s and d11/d10s and 395 machines every day. The fact that they come with both metric and sae is awesome for us equipment and truck guys. They can take a beating and still haven't broken one yet. The 3/4 socket set is tits. Sunex is so good that matco rebrands and modifies their sockets alittle. I hope you're enjoy that awesome set.

I have a lot of tekton impact sockets the only thing I dont like is they dont make universal or 1/4" drive impact sockets. So I bought sunex for my 1/4" impacts and gearwrench and proto for the universal impact sockets. Another good choice for impact sockets would be capri, they even sell sets that come with a Westling machine socket trays.

I avoided all the socket sets from companies that don't know how to and keep making a bad carry case. The thing I dislike about a plastic case is for one to have that thin plastic that acts like a hinge for the cases top and bottom. I look for gear that have a carry case that makes a hinge that looks similar to a door hinge, you know, the pin be it plastic or metal, going through the sleeve of the top and bottom halves of the case, to me that spells longevity, and durability. My very first chrome socket set was a Craftsman 140 piece socket set Made In America, that socket set is in shambles, for one my sons used and lost and Brough it back with 1 socket missing or 2, and I would make them pay for it. The lost sockets when we had a Sears, I use to go and replace the sockets from Sears, not anymore, because Sears closed down in my neck of the woods. So, my use to be 120 socket set is now about 80 pieces now, and the case was in 2 halves until Gorilla Tape brand came out, and I bought the take to tape over the thin plastic hinged piece that ripped years ago. I should buy this Sunex Brand, but not now, I would buy them when they change out the hinge section of the case, because a socket case is important, I can't think of the times a case would come undone, and I would have all the sockets hitting the basement floor scattering all over the damn place. SUNEX, if your reading this, make your socket cases with real pinned in type hinges, and I will buy a few from you. I need the 3/8 now because my Makita 18V kit came with a 3/8 " Impact Wrench".

@projectkarr
@projectkarr 3 жыл бұрын
That’s good to know about the torx bits. I’m usually not too worried about something breaking since they all have a lifetime warrantee, but if they break that easily then it’s just a hassle. Might have to invest in a nice torx set.
@donwasse7892
@donwasse7892 2 жыл бұрын
@@projectkarr I have the same set, and I can confirm the Torx bits are junk. It's not about the warranty. They will break flush in the bolt you're trying to remove and then a twenty minute task becomes a humongous pain in the neck. I highly recommend tossing them so you're not even tempted to use them. The rest of the kit is great, I also have the 1/4" and 1/2" and use them professionally.

What would make it a complete set would be including a ratchet. To substitute chrome sockets sets to impact socket sets requires including ratchets. You will never see a chrome master set in a carry case without a ratchet! Neiko includes a ratchet in some of their impact sets. My advice to someone just starting out would be go with an impact set, skip the chrome duplication and buy the biggest set you can afford in a good case you can keep track of all the components.
