I spent 22 years in the bowling business and I still love the sport. What you guys are doing is amazing and I can't thank you enough. A (I think) slightly funny memory... I coached high school bowling when it first started up here. I used to like to tell the kids to "put the thumb in the big hole" to lighten the mood in stressful situations...Invariably I'd see a thumb in a weight hole... smart a**es 😎

I agree completely. The thing is that I believe that you can bowl however you want and how you feel comfortable. At my local bowling center most people that work there are old school traditional one handed bowling but I’m one of 3-4 people in my area that bowls two handed and I get judged for it. I believe that anyone can bowl how they want

I agree 100%. All of people in my league bowl differently. 2 handed bowlers, 1 handed bowlers, 2 fingers only bowlers, thumb only bowlers, no fingers in the ball bowlers, etc. I've talked to the majority of them, and one thing they all do at the start is make sure the are relaxed and comfortable to do there throw. It's all about what is most comfortable for YOU to do throw your shot.

You mention placing your thumbnail against the back of the hole. I've begun placing two or three layers of white tape (cut about 1/4 to 3/8" long using standard width) down into the hole where my thumbnail gets placed. This gives my thumb something to feel and keeps it from grabbing at the ball during with swing. I used tiered tape on the front of the hole, too.

Nice, this is a very overlooked part of the game. Just be consistent in your routine. A maybe idea for some future tutorials? What about addressing conditions like hang-spots near the pin deck that can wreck havoc on a shot when it matters most or makes a shot unplayable for your gear. How to try and solve that issue? maybe my question should be in your oil pattern section, oops!

Great video! You could, maybe, consider doing a video on thumb holes, and the importance of a tight thumb hole for all level bowlers. I think bowlers do not pay enough attention to the importance of a tight thumb hole and it's relation to the relaxed swing and a quick release (resulting in more revs). Keep up the good work.

Still a little confused on the quick release and also on breaking wrist back at release... So do we actually push the ball forward with our thumb then just follow through with the fingers?
@igorhabljak3218
@igorhabljak3218 3 жыл бұрын
@@dalebloomer6854 Imagine holding a bottle of water in your hand, and trying to roll it toward somebody alond the floor. It is the same motion. So, the thumb goes toward the floor and the fingers travel all the way to the top. Take a bottle of water and try it. You will see what your hand does. It is really easy to see. You have to replicate this movement when you try to roll the bowling ball.

@@igorhabljak3218 so, why do people teach to come around the side of the ball to increase hook, if you need to really stay behind it all the time...
@igorhabljak3218
@igorhabljak3218 3 жыл бұрын
@@dalebloomer6854 Ball motion is a sience in itself. The axis rotation is one of the things that is a little bit easier to change in your release then others (like tilt). The point in going "arround the ball" is only usefull when you read the lane and realise that the front part is gone, and your ball hooks too early, then you could try and use a little more side rotatoon to make the ball go a little longer down the lane and not read as soon. The most common case where side rotation is used is when you move in the insisde part of the lane, and have to cover a lot of boards. In that case, side rotation can give you a little more push, and the ball has the ability to make it's turn on the backend and still go through the pins the right way. So, there are cases you would need to use more side rotation, or axis, but they are not present all the time in your normal play. The ball reads the lane better when it is rolled in a more forward manner then on the side. You can check out the slow motiom releases of all the top players on YT and you will see the way their hand commes up the back of the ball. Very few use side rotation as their first option (like PDW), and there is a reason for that.

@@BradandKyleBowl cpuralewski@gmail.com, email me and we'll work something out. Right now I've got a full time job and a part time job just at Arrowhead lanes in Champaign. I'm working for league fees, discounts on lessons and equipment. I'm learning light maintenance, and how to oil the lanes. I love the game that much

A coach told me to move my index finger and pinky finger farther or closer to my “bowling fingers”. He said it could help me get more inside the ball if I needed to. Does anybody else do this?
