Well, not quite that many. In typical league play you have guys who throw straight balls, guys who have no follow through, guys who take a 5 step approach and THEN start their back swing...There are a lot of beginners, and bowlers who have bowled for years, and still bowl like beginners, haha. But this is an excellent video. If I move left and my ball doesn't have the finish I want to take out the corner pins, I am going to take Brad's advice and make a move right but with higher ball speed or a weaker ball. This stuff really makes sense!

This is good information, I have problem when someone throws a urethane ball what can I do ?

i need guidance on this. I'm going bowling with my friends this weekend. I bowl on my schools team but my friends are just casuals looking to hang out. Problem is, the only place most casuals throw is down the middle. i have a feeling this will eat up the oil in the middle. I'm a 2 hander. what should I do?

@@xPandora__ It's easier to change ball speed than revs, dude. Kris Prather won $100k on the TOC by moving left slowing his ball speed to 17mph. Anthony Simonsen slowed down to 17mph to play inside in Las Vegas, because South Point's lanes are really firm and slick. Each have a 450-500rpm. Speed control is crucial to manipulating shape on shots. Leaving flat corners? Add some hand rotation and slow the feet.

When you two handed and your ball just comes from 10 pin to 7 while still rolling 16 mph

The biggest thing that worked for me is hand position. At the apex of your back swing, if your hand is behind the ball, your ring and middle fingers will be pointing down at the 6 o'clock position. (I'm assuming you are a righty). What you need to do is to bend your wrist until your ring and middle fingers are pointing at the 8 o'clock position. This is called the strong finger position, and it is useful as it allows your fingers to give the ball more revs. It's even better if you cup your hand. Just picture your hand on TOP of the ball and a bit to the right of the ball already. You can't rev the ball very much this way as you release because your hand is already at the finish point. By cupping your wrist, you get your hand UNDER the ball, and by using the strong finger position, you give your hand more of a windup and more room to lift through the ball from left to right. Try it and see if it helps. It helped me anyway.

The lanes will tell you where you need to be to play. Bowling earlier in the day or bowling on lanes that don't get much play should help. If the house typically has open play around the center, ask for pairs on the ends and vice versa. Besides most bowling centers don't get enough open play that will trash a pair of lanes that it becomes unplayable. If that's the case, ask for a pair that's had less play on it. But I'd stick with the trashed pair and try to challenge yourself to make better shots. There's always a 300 game on every pair regardless of condition, you just got to match your equipment and your game and try to find it. When the lanes get tough, those who score well make their spares. Spares are what increases your average not the amount of strikes you have during a particular set.

If you’re practicing, it really doesn’t matter how good or bad the lane condition is. Now if your idea of practice is just bowling a lot of games and seeing how many strikes you can get, or how high you can average, I can see where a torched pair of lanes will be frustrating. However there are lots of things that you can work on that don't require fresh oil. Just pick one or two things to work on that aren’t measured by Xs on the score board.

Loft or ball change to less surface or both, these save energy for driving through the rack.

Can't speak for K/B directly, but pre-pandemic I know that a lot of those balls would be given away in some fashion. Nowadays who knows.

Bowling on cliffed conditions is probably the most frustrating scenario in the modern game and it usually requires making a ball and/or release change. Generally speaking you have to pick a side, either play the puddle or play the desert. If you visualize the cross section of the pattern there will be a zone where the oil line is extremely steep on either side of that the shape levels back off, those narrow zones are where you want to go. If someone else on the pair is having success in one of those zones pick a ball that will let you play there, otherwise pick the side that’s most comfortable for you. Keep your angles tight in either case as these zones are narrow. Based upon your question my guess is you prefer to move in, and more than likely you aren’t moving your eyes enough left so you aren’t staying in the puddle down lane. Instead of making 2-1s or 4-2s, try like 8-6 and then tweak from there.

Throw slower

I suspect what your seeing is not more motion it's a quick motion, solid balls read earlier and have smoother arcing reaction. The emerald is a pearl it will go long have a hard snapping angular reaction. It's the difference in surface.

Yes, the patterns are different between each house. Where I live the 3 alleys near me ones heavier oil, ones medium and the last is dry. You got to be able to adjust to each condition. Are you talking a 10 pin spare? If so you would move left and throw over the middle arrow (I'm assuming you're right handed.).

@@MrLohken I have started to get a little better at it. Yes the far right pin seems to be the hardest. I have just started hooking in the past couple months. So I could be throwing my spare ball a little different. I haven't tried throwing at angles like I think you are saying. I guess that is something I need to learn.

I would expect the scores to be medium paced, with the top five averaging in the 230s. Honestly I have heard pros say plastic ball tournaments are some of the easiest to bowl. Everyone is throwing the same equipment so you don't have to worry about unexpected lane conditions such as when one person is throwing urethane, another is throwing weak reactive outside, another person highly aggressive reactive inside, and another person throwing plastic for whatever reason (that lane is going to be chaotic after a few games). In a plastic ball tournament the adjustments are few, minor, and predictable from pair to pair, especially since ball reaction will generally be weak. They key would be to balance speed and rotation with a scuffed piece of plastic and playing a really direct line from the right part of the lane. I guarantee you that the same people making cuts now and winning tournaments are the same ones that would win in the scenario you are proposing.

Make sure to buy one ball made of plastic which will remain straight to pick up spares. Picking up a spare is critical to improving your average. Secondly, talk to a pro shop owner and have him identify your roll and determine what revolution rate, speed and factor what angle your ball rotates. This will help him determine how to drill your bowling balls. He will also try to choose from the information gathered a few options for you in balls to drill for you. You should start with a ball that has a low hook potential for starters until you get experienced with a hooking ball before using an advanced ball that hooks a lot. He can help you out all along the way.

bobfishnut thanks for the advice. I will look into that. I just feel I could be good as I said I am bowling in the 120s and I only really recently been bowling regularly as before this year I had bowled maybe 6 times in my life and since the start of this year I have bowled probably about 15 times. And only recently have I been hitting 100+ and that was due to what I have learned from channels like Brad and Kyle here. I feel if I can get some good balls and learn a few more things I have a shot at really improving my game and possibly competing in league matches and hopefully be good enough to compete in the PWBA.

bobfishnut thank you. I talked with a friend of mine and I think I know what bowling balls I want to get. As he said the Tforce for a spare ball and the Rhino for a ball to learn to hook on.

@@steinobryanmichael8558 There are a few things you can do. 1. Step farther back on the approach. I've tried it and found my accuracy dropped. You can work with it and see how it works for you, though. 2. Shorten your back swing. 3. use a lighter ball.

Mike Brown Do you use a towel on your ball? Depending on what ball you use oil will collect on your ball thus making it hook less. Very important to wipe off your ball after every shot to make your game more consistent.

It’s the same thing on house that the righties do, but we have to do it less often. Of course, we get a matchup with two lefties or a guy is using urethane or big surface we can get lost a bit. The best way to practice it is create a few games of transition in practice. I normally try to only get one lane, and use a big ball with surface for three or four games to get myself in a position where the lane opens up, then I can experiment with different balls and lines until I find something that works. I also experiment with different speeds and hand positions, often times I need to do that because I don’t feel comfortable playing big angles like the righties. Also, I’d say find a league that has 5 man teams in a center that has a lot of friction, or one that has a second shift late night league that way the lanes break down faster and you get more practice. There’s no easy answer here, most times you have to experience a given condition and practice to figure out how to overcome it. Good luck

Generally speaking, you'd move right as you hit transition, but a lot of lefties throw urethane, so you'd actually have to either stay in the same place, or sometimes even ball up to something stronger to combat the carry-down that urethane causes. I've see a lot of this because of my two lefty two hander teammates, and my brother is a lefty one hander

for lefties on a house shot get a urethane ball and if you're a you might move once all night if theres 2 or three lefties. but if you do need to move just go right 2-1 each move.

Loft to avoid part of the burnt heads saving more energy to drive though the rack or ball change to less surface. Sometimes both.

I’ll try. My tilt goes down when I loft so it Normally hits flat.

Damn I feel for y’all... don’t know where you are, but we here in Texas have been bowling since May... have started out fall leagues
