Better.com Fires 900 People Over Zoom

If you’re looking for an example of the worst possible way to terminate employees, look no further than the CEO of personal loan company Better.com. He used a company Zoom meeting to inform 900 employees that they were all being fired, effective immediately. Better.com is worth an estimated $8 billion, and employs more than 6,500 people. Fortune Magazine recently ranked the company first on it’s Best Place to Work list. The nearly 1,000 people out of work before the holidays might disagree.

If they have the ability to monitor the 250 people who were abusing the system, then why not just fire them? This is so sad for people who might have been working with integrity.
@EEE-pv2eo
@EEE-pv2eo 2 жыл бұрын
Because they actually mean to say "we only had 2 hours worth of work to do and our employees were scheduled for 8 hours but they can't clock out" This place probably had way too many employees, it's still terrible what they did, but they probably have way more employees than they even needed and just kept hiring because someone probably said they need more.

@@EEE-pv2eo You might be right. I know all too well that larger companies like to do mass hiring and then suddenly mass layoffs. To make things even more confusing, I predict they have another mass hiring season in a few months! Such an awful contradiction that does not provide job security.

@@EEE-pv2eo Can't blame the employees if the manager doesn't give them enough work. You'll rarely find a job where someone really works the full 8h. I consider a day productive if an employee manage to put 5h of work in it.

I was one of the 900 and did work all 40+ hours/week. As soon as the zoom meeting ended all of our computers logged out and we couldn’t even say goodbye to our colleagues. I understand downsizing because of the company going public and all that but we worked hard and couldn’t even let people know we wouldn’t be at our next meetings.

Why isnt the government coming up with laws to arrest or atleast fine those companies heavily who does immediate firing without a period notice..Such corporate bosses must be jailed with longer jailtimes and be fined heavily, coz ur not firing only a employee, ur messing the structure of a family, ur disabling the family of paying the bills, promises made to their kids, rents, bills, future trips, EMI's etc..
