Most people think they need to add horsepower to add performance, when this simple and very affordable trick will totally change the way the PW50 utilizes it's powerband. This is almost an essential mod if you're taking your kids PW racing at the track, or your kid is a bit on the heavier side of the PW50 weight range and the bike seems to be stuggling to pick up speed.

Great tips on the PW! What rear shocks are you running? There are a ton of options out there just curious to see what works on the track?

Yamaha does not use phillips head screws they use J.I.S. screws (JAPANESE INDUSTRIAL STANDARD. Lots of people have not heard of them. If you look at the head of the screw and it has a round dot stamped beside the cross on the head, that is what it means. It makes a world of difference having the proper screwdriver for these because you will no longer strip screws out. Yamaha, honda, kawasaki and even traxxas rc cars use these screws.

Nice video, getting ready to redo a pw for my little guy this winter. Breaking it all down to nothing and rebuilding the whole thing.

I like what you did here. Is this an alternative for the qt50 gear set? Seams much cheaper. Are these aftermarket springs

If the rear wheel spins quickly at idle on the stand would that be from faulty clutch springs?
@John5XR
@John5XR Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say faulty, no. Centrifugal clutches will do this in nature

Good! Better for racing as it puts the engine into the powerband before the clutch engages

Thanks! I just put some in my sons PW too. The bike is still apart but I’m curious to hear your review!!! Also I have 2 sets of the cannon race craft springs if you hear of anyone interested. I have a 35lb set and a 45lb set. We needed up having custom rear shocks made.

It’ll do it. Stiffer springs are more or less to let the engine rev a little higher before it engages

If you work on Japanese bikes you need JIS screwdrivers, standard Phillips tend to strip out the screw head

Bc people only know about Phillips heads bc when they go to Ace, Home Depot or Lowes they see metric sockets n wrenches but don’t see “metric” screwdrivers. I too have been in in the field for a long time and until I went to a mechanical trade school I didn’t realize the difference neither. But after a long time doing mechanics I know that quality screwdrivers like snap on n mac work a lot better than a cheap screwdriver. But a lot of people who are wrenching on these little pws are dads trying to get their kids bike running and they are watching KZfaq videos to figure out how too. But simmer down, and don’t be a dick. Just reply and say a good quality screwdriver or getting a jis style screwdriver will work better and is worth to have if your doing a lot of mechanical work. It’s that simple.
