Bishop Pearson, I have just now heard your name for the first time today. I heard your story on "This American Life" after only two days of listening to that program. Let me say, your story brought tears to my eyes. It has given me a new hope for humanity and tomorrow. Mr. Pearson, during my journey of becoming awakening I started listening to you. I thought of you when I first began my transition of asking questions concerning the writings of the Christian Bible. Your knowledge of the Bible was extremely important on my new journey of inner-standing!...What started me to ask questions was because I didn't see the miracles of Jesus taken place. I see people asking for prayer when sick verses laying hands and healing in the power of the Lord. The Pastor would say: 'Sister Johnson is going to the hospital on Monday...let's land hands so that God will guild the hands of the doctor. I was like huh? I said to myself: With all this Holy Ghost Power...why doesn't the Pastor use the authority of God to heal right now! I saw no Power or maybe no Belief...just a Show! I have been asking God for the truth. The idea of Hell and ECT has never made sense to me. I was living in absolute paralyzing fear of Hell. Really questioning what happens when we die. I believe in Jesus. I believe he died for ALL our sins and that he saved us all.. EVERYONE! Every time I feel confident that I align more with Christian Universalism I hear or watch fundamentalists talk and I start questioning myself wondering if I'm wrong. There is just so much gospel supporting the idea that EVERYONE will eventually be saved or that there is no Hell. I can remember sitting through services and hearing how much God loves us. Then a few minutes later they talked about burning in the lake of fire forever because God is Just. Huh? God who is all loving will send his children to Hell forever for being born with free will and only get one chance to get it right? Makes no sense. Does anyone one else struggle with this as I do? Thank you for saying some things I have believed for a long time. My Mom had the same feeling and Hell became her downfall -- even to the point of not trusting God. She didn't or couldn't understand because she might have done some sin in her life but followed God all her life that he was going to allow Hell to overtake her. I felt her fear, but never understood the concept either. God loves us and she believed that, but she ran from death even the night Jesus came for her. She made notice of someone else being in the room with her, but because she had some downfalls in her life, I do believe she thought it was the devil. The bible has been in dispute by spiritual scholars from its release to man by man. It says "You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free". Yet mankind especially the believers remain in the dispute. They are not free and still have need that man teach them. Is there no living power that can be contacted within the spiritual world that can verify the writtings? If not then is the God of the Bible also limited to the man made Bible too? If the truth that sets man free was in the bible surely man would have found it by now, and moved on to the place the Bible says Where " you have no more need that any man track you" That place beyond faith where true knowledge is. You’ve made no mention of the Dead Sea scrolls which predate the manuscripts of the Old Testament. And textual variants or textual criticism you have to explain what textual corruption means in the scholarship word. Please don’t be misleading!
