In today's video, I discuss two common causes of bicep tendonitis. Biceps tendonitis is a very common injury among weight lifters and many active individuals.
First, tightness in the pronator muscles of the forearm, can lead to bicep tendonitis of the distal tendon of the biceps. Dr. Joe demonstrates how to perform massage ball rolling of the pronator teres. He then demonstrates how to perform fascial release of the pronator teres. Keeping the pronator teres muscle loose will take pressure off of the distal portion of the biceps.
Next, Dr. Joe discusses how tightness of the internal rotator muscles of the shoulder will cause biceps tendonitis in the proximal tendons of the biceps. Once again, Dr. Joe demonstrates how to use a massage ball in this area and then performs two different stretches to loosen the internal rotators of the shoulder.
With some consistent work, biceps tendonitis can be avoided.

I cannot believe how effective that thumb in forearm exercise was. I have had this issue for a while. And that exercise got rid of most of it in less than one minute. Incredible. Thanks again. Cheers

You have just changed my gym game! I have been suffering with bicep tendonitis for years and despite consulting physiotherapists and personal trainers no one has given me this advice. Just doing the excises with the video, I can already feel the difference. I have been avoiding bicep work and shoulder work due to these issues and now I have the confidence to continue pain free. I've had this problem for a few months after going too hard on pull-ups and dumbbell curls. I've watched so many videos and yours is the first that explained it properly (I now know it's a problem with my pronator teres!) and gave me some exercises to work on it. You've made my day, thank you so much, Joe!

@@Dominasty Hey, I also think weighted chin ups are really putting a strain on my right arm/biceps. Would you share the warm up routine that helped you overcome it?
@Dominasty
@Dominasty Жыл бұрын
@@rombo8 nothing special, just a deep (and angry) tissue massage on both the muscle bellies and the attachments and then really light weight where you can do around 30 reps of slow and controlled motions. Stretching did not help. Only the very high reps but low weight and massages helped. I'm still healing but this worked! I did standing biceps curls (alternating arms but the way Even Centopani does it), but slow and controlled. Move the arm slightly up as you complete the curl, too. It works really well: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eq93pNmK2dy2nIk.html

Thank you, i had no idea why my shoulder was tight, i ride my bike, i deliver food, always having a backpack on. shoulder burns in the front, i would get relief with heat/cold compress while i slept. i massaged all my tendons in the shoulder, i streched every muscle for like 2 hours straight one day. there was relief, but today i stumbled upon your video, i feel like i just won the anatomy lottery, thank you so much for teaching me about pronator teres. ... so i jammed a thumb in there and did some stripping heavy pressure moving very slow and shortly after i stripped pronator teres my shoulder burning stopped. MY god , all the time i spent trying to fix my shoulder and in 5 minutes you helped me for life, so i really love your spirit. you are very great.

Dr Joe - Hello ! Thank you for this amazing video ! I see a my Chiropractor Dr Naved Nazemi every 3 weeks in the Palm Springs area. This video bicep tendonitis - stretches and facial release is amazing! I have a torn labrum to my right shoulder for the past year, my regularly exercise routine has been yoga, Orange Theory and hiking. I just added indoor rock climbing and all of a sudden I developed severe intense pain to the anterior shoulder, where I couldn't reach back with my right arm today. I am a emergency rom nurse and for 3 decades I have been lifting patients and moving gurneys, wheel chairs and equiptment. I searched U-tube for help to relieve this pain, which had been a Godsend. Thank you again !

Had shoulder surgery in February. By May I started getting this searing pain exactly as you described here. I kept gobbling anti-inflammatories and kept icing my arm for the illusion of some relief. Began thinking my surgeon wasn't fessing to a surgical goof, despite my shoulder actually doing much better. So I found your video this last week and began doing the stretches you suggest here. I kid you not, for the first time in many months, I went a whole night without pain, then the whole next day and night and day!! I'm repeating the stretches daily and this is I think day four. I just wanted to thank you for helping me with a problem that was making my life unbearable. Sincerely, Joy

I have had this problem for years. Never had a clue what to do or what it was. I stopped lifting weights over and over. I'm pretty intense when I lift, so no wonder I was getting this pain. I've got pain at my wrist, too. After seeing a gymnastics video, I desperately need to permanently stretch my forearms. I should be able to stretch both ways like this " T " but all I've got is this " Y ". I hurt my wrists if I try to get up or do anything that is in the push-up position, like getting out of bed or off the floor. I switched to making a fist and pushing up with my wrist straight. This has been the best two weeks watching videos on YT and actually finding answers. Thanks.

Excellent video. I just got back from an Orthopedic appointment concerning lower pain in the bicep/elbow area. He recommended physical therapy and ibuprofen and told me it was possibly distal bicep tendonitis that just happens because I'm no longer 27. Not satisfied, I looked this up and found your video. You absolutely nailed it. I work from home (stand up desk), so my arms are always in that position. Started feeling pain in left bicep after P90X upper workout and without a doubt it is because of tightness to that area. Now I will focus on relieving the tension with these exercises!

Heavy arm workout 2 days ago after a year of no workouts. Couldn't sleep comfortably couldn't straighten my dam arms so much pain. I know it's not fixed but 30 min of the stretching and rolling you talked about and I can straighten my arms and drive. This info was very much appreciated.

Just discovered your channel Dr. Joe...having spent several decades being intimately involved with NSAIDs and gritted teeth, a Physio-Terrorist at my gym last year sorted out my frozen shoulder (I had about 25% range of motion) and sciatica with massage, stretches and strengthening. Since then I’m a convert to physio, so I’m excited to try out your stretches for my Bicep Tendinitis!

Hi i am having this same issue with tightness in my elbow and pain in my lower biceps while working out. I took rest for 1+ weeks but it still persists although it went down. How long did it take for you to be better? Was your similar to mine?
@klaasjansen6181
@klaasjansen6181 3 жыл бұрын
@@joetonyaashish7985 I don’t want to demotivate you but it took many weeks for me. His exercises removed the tension for me and relieved the pain but the problem still stayed when doing weightlifting. When i came back into the gym i did many low weight band exercises for my shoulders and rotator cuff ( since it all started there apparently). Because my shoulder was tight the bicep tendon got irritated in there. When that happens it can go all the way to the ellbow. I don’t know if our problems are similar but my bicep tendonitis was confirmed at a physical therapist. So if yours is too then we probably have the same!

I've been looking for an explanation to my inner elbow pain, for month now, without success. But I think you hit it right on the nail. I work on a computer most of the day and the only sport I practice is mountain biking so my biceps are rarely in supination. My elbow pain started after curling a little heavier dumbbell than usual and aggravated after a couple more dumbbell sessions a few days later.

Since im super prone to getting this, i comment on every video i see about it: Do bicep curls where you go up fast and down slow with just the bar or like 15lb(7kg) total, holding with both hands. It's not ment to be a challenge but you need to feel it on the way down. This is wonderful to prevent it or just help recover from it, but doesnt help with the shoulder stuff.

Let pain be your guide. If an exercise hurts you skip it. Usually bicep tendonitis doesn't effect heavy movements such as bench press. However, it will definitely be effected by pulling type exercises.
