Its a bummer that they still haven't made the warehouses behave in a way you would expect. Putting them next to factories, but they still get the materials from other places instead of the warehouses that are right next to it

I bought this game about a year ago, and Skylines is probably the best city builder/simulator around today. It does fall short in some areas though, such as requiring mods for features that should be built into the base game. With all the paid DLC, you have to spend a small fortune to get all the features that are in these videos, and then on top of it deal with buggy mods that randomly break the game.

Neat, a factory area to centralise the pollution to one corner, although you do have the Eden Project in :) I was wondering, could we get a city tour/driving series, where we follow a vehicle around Teaville? It would be really cool to see Teaville from a cim's point of view, albeit (and I understand) boring to record and edit over and over again.

This field thingy tat has more traffic than the others at 21:21 appears to have a building at the end of the road that the other T roads don;t have. That could be the cause.

The building at the end of the road appears to be a barn. No different than the others, just slightly differently located. Shouldn't cause any more problems than the others, but might be worth a move to the side of the road just to check

2:30 I'm pretty sure the trucks in a building only delivers goods, never retrieves, meaning that the trucks owned by a warehouse is only used to deliver goods to whoever needs what is stored there. It's quite hard to set up an effective industry transport network in this game. Like I have warehouses with lots of goods just beside a factory that is in need of them, but they don't delivery to it, because there is already some other truck on its way from the other side of the city, so the demand is technically met. Frustrating to say the least.

I would love to see small villages districts around the map exploring the landcape. Some close to the river connected by ferries. Some more work on the islands connected by ferries. Some little by the beach connected by fries and one main bridge only. Some on the mountains connected by cable cars and buses. Some on the valleys connected by buses. One hub to take all those people to the city and other important places like the massive industrie zone you made.

I have noticed that a lot of people have misconceptions on warehouses and storage (barns, silos). There are two good rule of thumbs when dealing with industries. Trucks *deliver* only, and you need 5 trucks free at any time. You have two types of buildings (processor/extractor and storage). Take your farms for example. When it fills up with crops, it has to get rid of it to produce more. So then it uses it's trucks to send those crops to either storage, a factory asking, or commercial asking. If it does not find one of those with space, it *exports* it. The problem everyone gets into, is that they dont monitor free trucks. If they start exporting, then trucks are gone for a long time and the crop production stops when the farm has no room to store more and the trucks are gone out of the city and have not come back yet. If a commercial or industrial building asks for crops, but no trucks are available, then it imports. That is why you are importing crops even though you have a ton of production. You may have a ton sitting around, but all trucks are out so the business goes to the next available thing, imports. Start with your silos/barns and check how many free trucks you have then work your way up through the production chain. You will find that you have a bottleneck somewhere. That is why your factory was importing even though you had crops locally. Also, Fill/balance/empty affects when the warehouse will start exporting. If set to fill, it will fill the warehouse (still delivering to those who ask) before starting to send trucks to export. Balance means try to stay between 40-60% full. Above that, start exporting. Empty means always send a truck I want as little as possible. This is good for Factory goods.

For the cargo train station: put is parallel to the main train line. Like turn it 90 degrees and just make a slip line to connect it. It would be simpler.

The industries DLC is IMO a disaster. Orders are just filled on the timer so you can end up exporting everything your factories need and then importing it again. Building a million warehouses helps because they shuffle things around instead of exporting then, but it doesn't really make sense.

I recommend the enhanced district services mod to fix this. You can dictate which extractors send to which storage/processor/factory etc. Basically complete micro management of your industries. I have one of each zone, each 5 star, all factories, all running efficiently and at the peak I'm making £250k per week.

@@james170288 That's how it should be, but since the DLC was balanced for broken mechanics it sounds like that mod makes it *too* easy. The developers should come back and fix Industries properly at some point.

Great video, Biffa! May I make two recommendations? First of all, I’d recommend turning the car factory 180 degrees and turning the roads back to one way clockwise. The way you have it now, the trucks will be going from the warehouses, around the square anti clockwise, and then they’ll have to turn left across traffic to get into the warehouse. The trucks coming to go to the original factory also need to turn left across traffic. Turning it all around means no cutting across traffic. The second recommendation is more administrative. The Teaville series is great. Could you possibly add a parenthetical to the titles saying “(Teaville 23)” where “23” is replaced with the appropriate episode number? Thanks for the great content, Biffa! It’s always a pleasure to watch!

Hi Biffa, nice episode You will probably need to biring some people with public transport to the factory area, can´t wait to seeit. You could also just prolongate the road going to where the cargo was directly to the airport, to reduce traffic and make it easier.

That has been an annoying bug for as long as I can remember... Warehouses will never deliver goods to your own production buildings. Basically, they're only useful as a buffer for a building's output. What this means is that your factories will only use goods you produce if the building producing those goods is close enough to the factory to deliver the goods directly. If you have them too far apart, the trucks from the first building will always be on call, and the building will fill up on products. To mitigate this, I've found that I either have to place the factory close enough to everything (it will still use the trains as a method of transport if the terminals are close enough to the path), or make even more producing buildings, and siphon some of their products into a nearby warehouse so their trucks aren't away for too long. Those warehouses can then transport goods to a train terminal (you can also cut out the warehouse if the terminal is close enough and not too busy). That way, a couple of the trucks from each building can send goods to the factory, and the rest can focus on emptying the inventory. I really hope the developers realize that this is a problem and fix it eventually. Until then, we have to rely on workarounds.

Regarding the traffic problem at 21:22: My guess is, the barn is getting the products of all the other farms, because it's the nearest to the next distributor. I'd suggest to keep the farms and the barns separated.

As far as I remember, you had wood industry (furniture factory/printing press) somewhere ... and in the beginning I asked myself, why didn't you hook up the train part of the cargo airport hub ... :)

For the Cargo Airport, if you were to reverse it so the runaway was closest to the water, you could have 1 road coming in and a outbound road splitting into 2, one following the current road and the other splitting off to the unique factory area. Keep the railway linked to the airport and that would probably be the neatest solution regarding road layout.

Just a tip. Set your special general goods storage from your unique factories to balanced. It still exports at balanced and it will even export at the same rate once it gets that 50% stock. The difference is you'll have some on hand which your commercial can pull from. You get even more profit when you sell it internally.

The reason your factories weren't working with plastics is because plastics cannot be imported. They have to be produced in your city. I think the tooltip says this for certain materials when you go to a warehouse and change it's storage product. When you set the plastic warehouse to balanced this basically means "import until 50%, export everything after that" but the import part doesn't work - So you just end up ONLY exporting when it goes over 50% - hence a truck appeared when you went to 51% but not at 49%. You may as well set it to empty (same with any others that cannot be imported). p.s. LOVE TEAVILLE.

Your cargo air rail terminal needs a trumpet junction for the trains. I've done it on both my cargo air rails (Pine Valley Air Rail North and South). For whatever reason, the terminal does like incoming trains in both directions, but usually empties them instead of having them pass through. It will create outgoing trains from intercity planes on whichever line it can (usually the farthest away from the runway, closest to the road).

I don’t remember back when you first built the farms- but do you have enough processing plants- to turn the crops to animal products or flour? That could be where the imports are being demanded, and not just a few small businesses around the map.

Best advice I ever got for industry was to set ALL the raw material storage to fill. Then set the warehouses to store finished goods and set them to empty. Every industry building has its own pool of trucks, and if the production fleet is out dropping off while the storage fleet while the storage fleet is out trying to offload it's wares, your traffic will get bad quick (as biffa's farm area was getting.) Additionally, the raw materials will get used locally instead of being exported, which means your factories and commercial areas get first crack at them, and your factories always make more money exporting the finished goods than the raw materials.

Ideally, you also would want to centralize raw storage so that it gets traffic into it from production trucks, has access to rail and interstate, and has direct access to factories.

About the traffic issue in your farms, the pathfinding tends to choose the same storage building even if you have more storage buildings available closer to the extractor. This means that too many extractors are servicing one single barn hence the traffic. The best way I've found to prevent that is to space your industry areas as much as possible. Each storage building needs to be at least 3 units away from each other. Only then will the extractors use the closest storage building and ignore the one(s) 3 units further.

Fun fact: The Ctrl+S "stay-in-lane" shortcut works perfectly if you've already set up the lane mathematics. No need to manually drag each point if you've already got the right number of lanes.

There is a mod for positions swapping for cargo terminals. With click of a button the entry/exit trucks will swap positions. No need to change roads or relocate cargo terminals. (17:30)

Was pointed out last time and maybe somewhere down the comments but the trees around farms take away the fertile land. You can see the production varies from like 1500 units to 13 000.

Those tiny mistakes like the train tracks not meeting up and causing a cargo hub to stop can really effect your money. The factories being shutdown is like losing 20,000$ a week, depending on which factory. You were making bank in the middle of the episode there.

Still loving the series, encouraged me to dig out the game and replay it, but there aren't enough hours in the day to do it justice. Just watched this with a lovely cup of Empress Grey tea. By the way, the farm side road that keeps snarling up, is that where the admin building was initially put? If so would that account for the extra traffic?

After getting the map, I started watching this series from the start again, so I can see what you build where and kinda follow it, Biffa-fying a city to my own likings :) Two questions though, if you're still here and want to answer... 1: which LUT do you use? Even when I use "Dark Green", the roads are almost painfully white during daytime, the grass is insanely bright green, etc, and I don't know how to fix it. 2: does that LUT also affect the color of your roads (which I love btw, that dark gray)?

The original Cargo Station was in a better spot since it was serving as input for the factories (despite the warehouses that never seem to be used properly). I'd redesign the area with the airport for both input and output. Also just make trains run parallel to the stations instead of looping. It wastes time.

Time for some new districts methinks. Mountain resort with cable car trainline? IT district? Fancy housing in a fancy layout? (I recommend spirals) Might be worth checking out your passenger trainlines if you haven't done so offcamera. I'm sure you had a couple that could be consolidated into one line. Perhaps think about where they could be extended to.

I noticed that when you placed the cargo airport down that it has a train line built in Biffa, wouldn't it be better to move it to where the train one is. Then it's closer to the factories so less traffic?

@21:20 maybe turn off the the left-hand turns? They’ll have to go across the intersection and circle around to make a right hand turn to head back to the main road. But no waiting on traffic turning across the lane.

In that new farming area, you put in those 8 more farms. You should have added a couple of animal fields (not sure what they are called). They will be fed by the crops in the rest of the farming area and then can feed some of your factories instead of having to import animal goods.

Biffa, you should consider another cargo train terminal by that eco market that's importing from outside. That would give it faster access to what you are producing. And reduce truck traffic.

You should try adding huge warehouses only for factory products, that way production will never stop even if there aren't enough buyers, factories will ship the items off to the warehouse and then warehouse will deliver to your shops or cargo hubs for external trade. It will make a gigantic difference in your income.

I know this is very old at this point but if you set up warehouses on the edge of each district, your trucks will be able to go far enough if they can't reach transport hubs and then the trucks from those warehouses will service each district
