Identify weak points and attack them.
Josh Bryant identified Jonathan Irzarry's triceps as being the limiting factor when it comes to the top portion of the bench press. He followed suit with implementing isometrics and banded close grip bench presses to attach this sticking point.
The top set today was 500lbs for a paused double followed by the isometrics + close grip bench presses then an amrap set of weighted dips for 15 reps with 140lb dumbbell attached to join's waist.
One switch up was the lying dumbbell triceps extensions. They are a great exercise and used by many champion powerlifters HOWEVER they were killing Jon's elbows. Josh switched them out for unilateral cable work.
The results should be apparent in the coming weeks.
