You can be quite assured that a 7kW transmitter would send that Bluetooth signal out several miles without much effort. However, I too was quite disappointed by the fact that this generator could only do 7kW peak power and 5.5kW continuous power. However, that would actually be enough to charge a Tesla at an average speed of approximately 35 miles per hour, comparable to plugging it into a high-power wall connector running on a 240V@30A supply like what the average laundry dryer unit uses.

i purchased a 1980s Honda ES3500 Generator at a garage sale two weeks ago, they claimed it hadn’t been started or used in 15 years or so, got it for 25 bucks, i replaced the carburetor, spark plug, air filter changed the oil, and gave it a much deserved detail. I then added some ethanol free gas and it started after the 3rd pull... it’s only like 550 watts but it’s enough to run the fridge if i ever lose power.

@@mikeFPS1980 Last year I bought a Honda mower from 1983 or so. Guy said the carb needed cleaned. I think the real problem was it still had the original air filter-or at least looked that way. I cleaned it out with degreaser, changed oil and gas, sprayed some Gumout down the carb. Started on the second pull.

@@BillLaBrie I love Honda! Most of my cars i have owned in the past 20 years have been Honda cars, although i recently purchased a Subaru Outback, but yeah Honda makes things that last you pay a little more for their products but they last three times as long as other brands. I currently have a Honda HRC216HXA commercial lawn mower i got from a lawn care business that went bankrupt, it has to be at about 10 years old it was severely neglected, i change out the fluids, the blades, put in a new Honda Carburetor, and cleaned out the self propelled drive system with WD40 and the thing runs like a champ... My father has a Toro Timemaster mower and it’s only 3 years old and it’s been to the shop like 7 times, earlier this month the drive gave out and they ended up just giving him a brand new one which he promptly sold online and got a brand new Honda Mower!

I have one of these models (not bluetooth), and love it. It's wired into a pony panel and with a simple flick of my transfer lever my house, hot water, well, fridge, two freezers and hot tub are ready to go. Now, the hot tub I will shut off to save surge power, but if we want to use it, we simply turn it back on and snap off a few other items we don't need at the time. These things are so quiet...and like he says..you want quiet running gennies when you're in the middle of an ice storm in Canada, for 5 days in January, and have all your essentials working, when others may not be fortunate. Weird how so many of the pieces of high availability power solutions in data centers are now available to the average consumer. I'd wonder if there's some way to tie a goal zero 3000 to a Honda eu7000 and during a power outage have it VERY quickly switch to batteries, fire up the generator with auto-start, then flip over to that? Some kind of ATS would be needed to tie it all together. (And some controller.)

@@1ronhall Ron, there are several manufacturers. None are bad, as the device has to comply with the NEC (National Electrical Code). Since you're hiring an electrician, he will likely find and buy the one that goes with your electrical panel. For those not familiar with a generator interlock, it's a simple device (a piece of stamped and shaped sheet metal) that requires you to turn off your main circuit breaker before you can turn on the breaker that connects to your generator. That is an important safety, as it protects both your generator and any electrical utility workers out on the grid. The beauty of the interlock is that you can pick and choose which circuits, of your entire panel, you wish to feed from your generator (keeping within the generator's capacity, of course). It eliminates having to wire in a transfer switch. You'll also need an inlet port to accept the female end of the extension cord from your portable generator. Again, your electrician will likely find / install that. Good luck!

I run non-Ethanol gasoline in my EU6500i and treat it with Sta-Bil. I try to run the generator every other month for about 15-mins and then top-off with fuel. I keep about 15-20 gallons of fuel on-hand at all times. As long as you are using non-Ethanol fuel and treating it with a preservative you can easily keep it for a year. I agree though on the diesel. I wish there were more diesel powered generators in the 8000W size available from the various vendors. The only ones I ever see are those square Chinese units that seem nice but if you ever need service or parts forget it.

I saw that one when I was buying mine but 6000 dollars for a Genny is waaaay to much for my stomach, i endup buying the 3000is inverter which is pretty good, but extremely heavy, very very reliable, I purchased it on 2015, only once I had to disassemble the carburetor because I left stale gas in it, so I cleaned up and now running pretty good, the original battery died last year so it only lasted 5 years, but I still power it on by hand , 0 worries start In the first or second pull, and what's most amazing (besides the noise level) is the fact that at half load, in econo mode, the tank lasts 20 hours!!! Which is insane!, However if I had to purchase a unit now I will probably go for the 2200is because of weight and portability, I rarely require more than 1000W (2000 peak to start the water pump maybe less) so I am willing to sacrifice runtime for weight

Runs freezer and furnace in basement and entire first floor which includes refrigerator. Fridge and freezers and furnace all run for brief periods so not a constant drain. Chose this over a Generac due to its portability. And have used it in different settings. While barely portable at 110# it can be manhandled briefly. Hey! It’s a Honda! Unfortunately, do to its fuel injection system, full on dual fuel operation isn't feasible. This model runs a BPR6ES spark plug as well, which is not-ideal for running in a propane environment. Generally speaking, on most Honda equipment, any small engine running propane will run a BPR2ES plug. That being said, these units do have a decent amount of space due to the lack of a fully fledged carburetor. so perhaps a LP system could be included, but would likely need an entirely accessory injection system or a non-liquid fuel carb (would almost certainly have to run off vapor withdraw from the tank).

I guess it's a question if you can provide adequate support for such units. Where I live (Germany) we see honda units basically replacing stationary units, but when it comes to larger maintenance tasks they are picked up and brought to the dealership. Offering stationary units would require a whole new support network which can maintain them on site.

I’ve owned the older unit without the CO detector and have had zero problems after hundreds of hours, it will do most everything needed when the power is out.... be selective on how much you turn on while hooked up to a transfer switch powering the house and you’ll have no issues. Also it rides in the toy hauler on RV trips and runs the everything just fine.

Bluetooth is nice and all but I think most people would be more interested in some sort of GPS or even some form of a Bluetooth locator. Even if you have to be fairly close(say, 50 yards) some form of theft prevention/retrieval system would really help Honda maintain its seat on the thrown and would sell a lot of people who are still on the fence.

Parallel lcd out put panel and parallel input controllers can be fited in an enclosure remotely for remote diagnostics and remote control. Evey Generator manufactures should think about this. Newer models are coming with bluetooth, but it will be nice to have a parallel input interface and parallel LCD out put for older models as well. This can be do if people like you can publish the internal wiring diagrams . So that any body can buid it. review was super helpful.

These are nice generators. I've had a EU6500i for about 8 years. I will say they are a bit of a PITA to work on even for routine maintenance. Everything is hard to access due to all the covers. When it comes time for a battery replacement about the only thing that fits is the OEM battery. They already were one of the most expensive generators in their class so I question why Honda felt it necessary to add Bluetooth and add another $500 to the price. As nice as they are I'm not sure I would buy another one as for $5000 I could buy TWO good quality generators of this size.

@@deltabravo1257 That was my thinking. $500 just for Bluetooth? I was actually surprised at the time that Honda added fuel injection and kept the price the same. I recall only paying $3499 for my EU6500i. I just wish they would have increased the power to 8000W peak and 6500W continuous. 5500W for both the EU6500i and EU7000i is a bit on the low side for whole house usage.

Amazing machine, I love it. Biggest problem is the 23% drop to 5500w continuous power.. or 22amps. (Never trip the 30amp breaker for the 30amp outlets. But for about $12000 you can hook 2 together, burn twice the fuel and get 11kw.. Or you could sacrifice a bit of power quality and noise and get a 10kw Generator for I see $1000 at Costco. GREAT generator, Terrible value.

is that 10kw genny an inverter type? No. No it's not. Therefore, it's about 15 fucktons more loud than this one, guaranteed. It's not "a bit of noise", it's a fuckton of noise. These also last basically forever. People pay the extra money for these things (like people with food trucks or RVs)

What can you run at the same time on this generator? Where I live in Florida, I occasionally see a hurricane come through; power outages are a reality when this happens. I wonder if it could run my HVAC system and refrigerator at the same time.
@browsedeweb8834
@browsedeweb8834 3 жыл бұрын
@@sinister184 It depends how big the HVAC unit is. Some compressors with lower running amps can be started using a soft start like the MIicroAir 368 to reduce the high inrush. I can run 4 refrigerators, a mini-split AC, and the rest of my house on the Honda with no issues. Highest I saw the power draw was 3500 watts, and the generator was running in ECO mode at lower RPM. My 4-ton HVAC has too high a current draw to run with everything else, even with a soft starter. I wouldn't want to be running the Honda so hard anyway.
