Random, I'm dead new to card making. My thing is bookbinding, but hey it's all paper crafting. :) I was looking for ways to use up scrap bits, and extras, and I found you. The for the learning!!!

I am so crazy mad that I found your videos. You've saved me so much headache and money for this big old original Sizzix machine and the small red one. I bought them on a whim for $10 on offer up, both came with dies, but I learned from you how to make EVERYTHING work with them, converter from eBay for $7, and shims! Thank you!!! So much!!! I have cheap dies from Wish and they work great!! So, on pronunciation, don't be bothered love, we all say things different ways and we ALL have words we get tongue tied on. For the word subtle, I suggest saying SUP-ple. Anyone has a different idea all fine. Thank you again n for your old school Sizzix red machine videos :) I love my nearly free Big Red and sidekick! I don't want or need an expensive new machine for what I do. You taught me how to make it WORK!!! A tan, many thanks.

HappyWifeCrafts Hi Suzie! So, I have an update on the great adventure of making the old school red Sizzix and Sidekick work with new thinner dies. Yeah! The Quilling base and top are ordered, but won't be here for a week. I also don't have any silicone embossing mats and wanted to see if I could sort a work around. So I made shims for both machines and they cut thin metal and wafer thin dies just fine, but the embossing wasn't quite there. Enter scraps from another project. I had bought thin slightly squishy plastic placemats at the Dollar Tree a while back to make more water resistant covers for this one bookbinding project, guess what??? I don't need to buy silicone mats. :) They are a perfect thin, softish extra layer to get the embossing to really take. On big red I put it over the die, so from bottom taped shim, white cutting plate, paper die cut side down, placemats cut to cutting plate and shim size. On the sidekick, the same, but I put the top clear plate on top of the plastic placemats. I couldn't be more pleased, and saved about $20! I have some magnetic vent covers on order for Big Red, so I'm sure I'll need to adjust, but hey, if you kill a silicone mat, run to the Dollar Tree for some plastic placemats and save some money! What's that saying? Necessity (Or a super tight budget) is the mother of invention! I'm sure I'm not the first to try this hack, but I've not seen it on KZfaq or anywhere, so in my small corner of the world I INVENTED that scrap hack LOL! Thanks again for all of your videos, I have learned so much from you. Have a brilliant week. 😅

Barbara Hallowell lol!! That’s awesome!!! I love it!! That’s such a great tip!! I’ve used mouse pads for embossing Mats too, they work great! A plastic cutting board could possibly work as a cutting mat . Thanks for your comments!! I really appreciate them!! Have fun with all of your toys and inventions!!! :)
