Join us for a bikepacking overnighter in the Big South Fork Gorge.
Ian, from the Central Kentucky Bikepackers Facebook group put together this route as a sampling of the trails and gravel in this area. Coincidentally, this route is the eastern 2/3 of the IMBA Epic Loop. The route is 2/3 single track and 1/3 gravel forest roads. The single track consists of multiuse trails (Grand Gap Loop and a section of the John Muir trail) that are open to both hikers and cyclists.

I went on July 4th and absolutely loved this place. Definitely a hidden gem and I hope it stays that way. IMO being called a National Recreation Area turns people away so I hope they never "upgrade" this to a national park because if they do it will become just as overcrowded as Great Smoky Mountains

Great gravel routes in that area. Another good video that captures the area perfectly. I stay at the CG and ride various routes out and back. CG has great showers. You can actually get a shower only for a small fee if not camping. Good low traffic area.

That looked like an awesome ride and great trip! I may have to send this link to my buddies and see if I can't get them interested in a trip up that way!

That route looked amazing. Hope to get the chance to try it. Quick question. You probably don't film much of the hike-a-bike. Was there much of it and we just didn't see it?

There wasn’t much. And I actually did include most of it in the video.

Seems like a mountain bike would be the bike of choice. Probably more than I would want to attempt with my gravel bike.

@@TK-ov4hn Agree. My MTB isn’t set up for bikepacking quite yet.

@@TK-ov4hn You might enjoy the Chestnut Ridge trail on the KY/TN line at Divide Road...it is singletrack/hiking trail but most folks with gravel bikes handle it well. There are a few narrow bridges you will need to walk across but it has lots of flowy trail to enjoy....and several gravel roads in the area for a loop of desired length. Several camping spots on the trail too
