The Ever Start batteries are really good, and, they are manufactured in the USA. Project Farm did a video on car/truck batteries, he tested several brands, the Ever Start out preformed all other batteries, and the cost is quite a bit less depending on brand. Walmart also has a better warranty on their batteries than most other brands! When the batteries need replaced in my truck I’ll be using Ever Start!

Best way to get the best life out of a battery. Flooded or agm, at least once a week fully recharge the battery or minimally month. Best way to achieve 100% charge for both batteries is to charge each one separately. It's understandable most people wouldn't have the patience to do each separately. Another good investment would to install a permanent on board 2amp trickle charger that you would plug in every night or weekly. Especially during the off months you don't operate the truck.

One thing to be aware of when replacing batteries on vehicles that use 2 or more batteries. If 1 battery is still connected, all the positive cables are energized. If that thing touches a ground, you're gonna get a big surprise. You could mitigate that risk by wrapping a rag around the end of the positive cable while you have it disconnected.

On all my 2 battery Diesels I use the never-start walmart marine batteries. I go by weight and just get the heaviest ones. I have a big Deer 690 that takes 2 batteries and a huge 6cyl diesel. Cranks fast and starts quick no ether or glow plugs. I put a cheap solar charger on for winter. I usuall get 3 to5 years out of them or move them downstream to some junker when they get tired. Have to add water though or they die young

There's a vary good reason why Never Start are so much cheaper because Walmart buys up everyone elses rejects . I've had far more issues with Never Start than any other brand.

Crazy but I found that battery on line and shipped for $127 on sale. And all of a sudden ebay has good batteries being shipped free. And not just the AGM's

Ever since about 10 years ago when I learned that interstate and everstart batteries are nearly identical, I've been buying the everstart (with the higher CCA rating). They've been solid purchases!

I’ve ran Walmart batteries for years. You can find them every where. Having lived in Phoenix for years and the summer heat, four years was about the limit. I’ve even had them warranty one.

You are Correct about the number of companies that manufacture batteries…. The Military uses Exide, I installed two batteries from Walmart in my Duramax four years ago and they are still working today!!!

Good video but did you reset your BMS or you don’t have a BMS? And if your Ford is under ESP warranty yea the knockoff is a great excuse for them to back out of an alt battery or electrical warranty. My parts counter at my dealer was within $30 of yours. Now it’s on their nickel for warranty or zero issues if broke down on the road. Yes there are only 2-3 builders but each manufacturer can spec out case quality lead plate design shock material in the base, terminal quality Etc etc etc

I’ve been buying Motorcraft batteries since 2010 and I stopped about 2 years ago. I went through 4 warranty batteries in my 2017 F-250 and 2 warranty batteries in my wife’s Explorer. I’m done with Motorcraft. I went with Interstate AGM from Costco and have been SUPER happy. Those Ever Starts will serve you well and you’ll be glad you didn’t go back to Motorcraft.

If you go to batteries and bulbs, you can get some batteries called extreme batteries. These will cost you about 300.00 dollars each. These batteries will last you up to seven years with no issues. I had them on my 7.3 and got 8 yrs out of them. It had new batteries on it when I sold it. I bought a 2015 6.7, and the factory batteries didn't last very long. I replaced them on the 6.7 with the extreme.batteries from Batteries and bulbs, and they have lasted 7 yrs and 6 months. Just replaced them for 570.00 and will probably sell the truck with these batteries. Trust me, they are fantastic and handle the heat in Texas very well. No corrosion or having to add water. Check these out. Screw Wal Mart, O'Reilly, or auto zone.

Those are very good batteries. The warranty isn’t bad either. They are less expensive batteries for sure. I installed on in my wife’s SUV an saved $100.00 over getting an AC Delco which is the OEM on GM vehicles. Brand names batteries aren’t necessarily the way to go.

Hi JD, right on about batteries, been using Ever Starts for years since the warranty is so good. Saving money is never a bad thing. You made it sound with one of your comments that AGM batteries are not lead-acid but they are, you may have mis-spoke, or I misunderstood what you said. AGM is absorbent glass mat and this system makes them great for applications like your truck. Another great video and I am going to look into that power ratchet you used.

Optima is strait trash. These everstarts are Deka(East Penn), the equivalent part number is a 9a65. I run the same in my superduty, and they are doing very well, cycling with a large inverter and ultra high volume air compressor at three years into service now. Cold starts here on a 9 degree morning are easy breezy on a 290k mile 7.3. Your doing the people a great deed here getting agm's for less than a crappy flooded set from a parts store. YOU DA MAN!

Walmart batteries are fine. Even the $50 1 year version works okay. We had 2 of them starting out 7.3 diesel for 2 years before it was sold.

I have a battery supplier locally that I use. I always try to support local, mom-pop shops when possible. Most of the smaller battery places will test your battery and alternator for free. Most of them will actually change it out and help you reset your vehicle settings for you at no cost if you buy their battery. Batteries today are only good for 3-5 years. 10 years ago, it wasn't unheard of to get nearly 10 years with proper maintenance. When I bought my truck in 2016, its a 13 F250 6.7, it had the original batteries in it. They finally took a dump this past summer.

Yes, you should check out Project Farm's testing of these. In fact, from what I remember, I believe the lead acid batteries outperformed the AGM batteries in cold starting, and the agm's simply did not perform as well as advertised, given the price - if I'm not mistaken - I watched it a few months ago - (The cold start issue is SUPER important for diesels given their draw requirements).

Had a battery die in my 2016 F-150 Platinum before it was 2 years old. Replaced by Sames Ford without issue, but I was super discouraged by the fact that the service writer told me that they have just gone to pot lately.

Just me - but I've had zero luck with AGM batteries.. None of the 3 (X2Power) I tried to use would not hold a charge.. Gave up on 'em and went with standard lead-acid battery from Interstate... Those have worked just fine..

I have been running Walmart battery’s for years without any issues. They usually have better warranty’s then autozone and advanced. My last one went bad in 4 years, took it back to Walmart and they exchanged it for a new one. Keep that receipt. Walked out with a new one free of charge. I will continue to use Walmart batteries in all of my vehicles.

the powerstrokes from the 7.3 all the way to present minimum CCA rating is 750. buying a 650 it may or may not work. and battery will last half as long. also if you can buy batteries new under commerical account from any parts store you can get 2* group 65 850CCA. batteries for about 200 bucks with the return of your 2 cores. in my honest opinion paying 400+ for 2 batteries because there is a warrenty is a scam. why do that when you can have HUGE savings and get them for 100 bucks each and be 3 steps above a battery same size in CCA from walmart.

I use AGM battery in my Ford Mustang and about 10 years later it still works great. Use AGM batteries for the boat, and trailer tug.

I have used the Everstart H7 Maxx with terrible results. 3 batteries in 5 years. Don’t buy these batteries. They are crap. Walmart has a bad return policy. They don’t stand behind the warrantee. Each time I have to go back they give me some BS about Walmart policy. Now they saying they have to do a 2 hour test before they can determine if the battery is bad. I will never shop at Walmart again for anything. Costco is the best in my experience. I took a 3 year old battery back to Costco and not only got a new battery for no charge but they gave me $9 back because the price of the battery had gone down. No retailer will beat that.

I just ordered a set of XS Power AGM batteries for my F350. When I see how much you paid, vs what I paid, it hurts my heart a little, hahaha. Especially after learning that they all come from the same place. The 1040 CCA’s the XS batteries offer was tough to beat though.

I’m glade you and your viewers like the ever start batteries. I personally being a former Johnson Controls employee I will never buy a JCI battery. I have always used the lead acid battery’s. Never had good luck JCI batteries as well. You can get the same batteries at O’Reilly for 200 out the door and have an exide battery. Just my 2 cents JD.

One thing I didnt hear you mention is AGM batteries eliminate the corrosion issues you have with lead acid batteries. I love the AGM batteries and always use them.

Great Video!! Quick tip, I saw that the top of your battery was moist, and covered with dirt. Old school tip test to see if the battery is draining by testing. Put your lead on the positive terminal, and the negative to the top of the battery, it should read ZERO. Then clean the dirt off just wipe it down with a damp rag, test it again, make sure it is not draining the battery. Seems this is a forgotten piece of battery care, old school...

I've had great luck with Wal Mart batteries. Learned years ago that I'd rather have new Wal Mart batteries every five years than try to squeeze a couple of years out of something else. 2000 Dodge diesel has had a few battery replacements but never a failure. I'd like to point out that AGM is a lead-acid battery, it's just that electrolyte is contained in a fiberglass mat.

They’re like motor oil. I’ll take a bulk tanker load of an oil for a synthetic blend to a warehouse in Deer Park or Galena Park TX. One day they’re bottling Mobil. The next day they’re bottling Pennzoil, the next day they’re bottling Quaker State. It all comes from the same place.

You can get Interstate batteries for heavy duty truck batteries at Costco for $150 or less but you are correct most are made by the same couple companies.

The everstart is all I use for my rv tractor and boats haven't needed one for the truck yet

while you have the same two companies making batteries, they are making them to different specs. it isnt like they make only one run and slap stickers on them. this is how manufacturing works.

I just replaced the battery in my ‘16 F-250 and bought a store branded AGM battery made by East Penn. I’m in Canada so I want a high quality battery that will work well deep into freezing temps although I do have a block heater I can plug in.

I have always used Motorcraft batters in my diesel F-350, but 6 weeks ago I went to Wal-Mart and had them put two new ones in. Been working great so far.

I got an Optima red for my wife’s Camry. $200. It lasted six years before it started to give problems. For those of you who don’t live in South Texas, six years for a battery is nearly unheard of. I buy Interstate AGMs for my trucks. Like you said Johnson Controls and the other company make most of them.

Have had very good results with Walmart batteries, and like you said, a fraction of the price from Advance Auto or AutoZone or one of those.

I did a non-scientific study with a pocket radio I used to use at work between name brand AA batteries and Sams Club batteries. The difference in run time was about 1 day, 8 hours. The savings was worth it even though I used more batteries

Costco interstate batteries, I get them replaced every other year for free, done it 3 times already. They last right at 2 years each time in this cold dry Northern Nevada climate.

I'm a big fan of Northstar. I put one in my Accord v6 sedan, and 840cca rated with 1163cca test. Northstar is part of EnerSys. Wicked batteries. Made in Missouri. There's also East Penn DEKA. Made in Pennsylvania, great batteries as well.

The batteries in my Ram 3500 fail every two years no matter if I buy cheap or expensive. Without fail. I just accept it now.

I've had one of these last 6 years in my truck and have one in the wife's car, my was offen outside in -20 degrees and sat for day's sometimes, also had a bad one, but would buy another one...

It's also a good idea when buying pairs to get them with matching Production Dates. You can see that the stickers on these are different colors so they are different Production Dates. And never replace just one on a multiple battery system.

The other sellers need to use a bar code registration like Walmart. The time standing there while the associates figure out what phone number and the other things if you don't have a legible thermal paper turns black in your glove box receipt is ridiculous. I have several vehicles and O'REILLY and Auttozone have not gotten their extra markup from me in years. Walmart scans the barcode and you are done in minutes. Something that has changed in most stores is that you get one warranty replacement during warranty period if you were to have a multiple failure problem. My neighbor had a new battery fail in 5 weeks. Internal connector failure where the ignition is switched on and all works until you turn to start and everything goes dead. Connections were voltage drop tested and there was no problem but batt V was 0.89 and would come back to 12.73 in 5 min. You could hear a quick hiss when start was attempted from within battery. Costco interstate battery. Costco replaced it and said that was the one replacement with no more warranty. Neighbor opted for money back and then went to Walmart for the battery. Walmart auto center guy said they have the same policy now.

Great idea. I try to wait until my vehicle needs a jump to get started. After that, if figure I can hold charge for a couple more starts before going completely dead. An incredible amount of products are manufactured in the same way as far as 1 main producer supplying multiple brands. However, brands will spec out certain characteristics of a finished product based on price, performance, longevity, or whatever other applicable traits for a certain product. So while a common factory may make them the internals can be vastly different in quality and construction to meet the requirements of the brand selling the product. A buddy of mine bought some walmart winchester ammo long ago and had a few duds in the box. He went to a local gun shop for more ammo and struck up conversation about the ammo problems. The store owner grabbed one of his winchester rounds and put it next to the Walmart round. He pointed out the primers were different colors. Walmart chooses a price they want to sell the ammo at usually to beat out competitors. They tell winchester to make round cheaper to be sold at this price so winchester uses cheaper primers to meet the price requirement. It may still be in the same box design and everything. This goes for basically every product you see in multiple stores at different prices.

Too many issues with interstate batteries and their optima line. That’s why I finally went with odyssey batteries. Johnson controls have gotten a lot cheaper lately. Just be warned. Optima is made in Mexico now.

Those Motorcraft batteries have a 36 month free replacement + 100 month prorated warranty. They cost $180 each at OReilly, I think the Ford dealer may actually be cheaper.

Probably the same AGMs that Autozone sells. The worked great in my 2004 Ram/Cummins.

I have two Walmart batteries in my diesel truck and two Walmart batteries in my boat. No issues with any of these 4 batteries.

You got lucky, I was going to buy the same batteries for my Ram, none on stock for 60 miles.

Batteries are potentially a month different in manufacture date based on stickers. I try to get the newest one on the shelf and the same date when buying pairs.

FYI you all...Johnson Controls sold off it's battery business in 2019 to a group called Brookfield Business Partners which was then renamed Clarios. Currently Clarios manufactures the Motorcraft brand for Ford and they also produce the Ever-Start for WalMart. Clarios also makes the new Die Hard, Optima, Champion and Duralast batteries just to name a few. No they are not all the same, they are manufactured under individual specifications.

Three years for a Motorcraft battery is actually about right. I get about 3 years on a decent battery, and it doesn't seem to matter what brand (NAPA, Autozone, O'Reilly, Motorcraft, etc.). I've had good luck with Motorcraft batteries, they are good quality. But it looks like you upgraded to an AGM battery and that's smart. Motorcraft is making AGM batteries, too. But I agree with you the Walmart brand seems to be just as good but at a cheaper price.

Johnson Controls doesn’t own the Optima brand anymore, they sold it. Optima is now made in Mexico. I had a pair of Optima red tops in my Duramax (Johnson Control era, circa 2009ish) for around 10 years before the battery directly connected to the starter finally wore out. I kept the good auxiliary battery and still use it. After plenty of research and not willing to fork over the money for something high end like an Odyssey, I opted for Costco Interstates with a hassle free warranty.

I just bought an 820 cold cranking amp at O'Reilly's for $180. Plus tax. In northwest Missouri.
