You should be using glue-lined shrink tube to finish the connections. I also solder my terminals and for big gauge wire a propane torch works.

Good thing you didn't go with Optima batteries, they have been trash in my 6.0. In 4yrs I've had 4 swaps and on my 5th autozone swapped me to this odyssey and immediately seen a huge cold start difference.

Even with my lowly Accord 4 banger, if I had a group 51r battery in it, wouldn't get through one winter without a dead battery. I had to upgrade to a group 35, and my first was an optima. It's done after 3 years. Next stop: Odyssey/Northstar.

@@jr303official I just put in an Odyssey ODP-35 AGM in my 2003 Accord 4-banger. I had previously put in the v6's battery bed, heat shield, j-hooks, etc.,. A bigger battery in that car by itself doubled battery life, let's see what we get now that we have a legit group 35 AGM that doesn't need a riser to stand on. I went from: 410cca / 75min RC / about 35ah (normal 51r) to 720cca / 90min RC / 44ah (optima pseudo-35) to 675cca / 110min RC / 59ah (odyssey performance ODP-35). if you can't do a dual setup, go big or go home. I'm finally getting 14.3-14.4 at idle, and I have a good feeling this will survive winters as well. Next up: the 24F in my 2013 Accord V6. It currently has an East Penn 34R AGM (750cca / 55ah / 110min RC), and I want to go northstar 24F (840cca / 76ah / 160min RC). Let's see how it goes!

Where did you get the bigger wire and how long did it take to run that whole bigger gauge conversion with your terminals? Excellent job bro! I am on my second set of duralast, biggest ones that auto zone sells for my 07 f350 and they're already shit again, with these trucks, can't have that happen because it can fry a FICM(fuel injection control module) if the batteries are weak. Thanks for sharing. I knew I should have got these to begin with but I was being a tight wad, lesson learned. Thanks for the content and while people hate on Fords, to me, they're the only choice and I've had em all.

Yes sir, I agree. And the wiring can be found on eBay or Amazon. I use a brand called “Sky-High” car audio. Just search (sky-high zero gauge power wire) and it will come up. I would buy atleast 20 feet, so you have enough to do the grounds as well. I have also had just about every model, and engine Ford makes. And their my favorite trucks for sure. Awesome video man. I’ve got a 99 F-350 with the 7.3 and I think one or both of my batteries are starting to get a little weak. My starter just went out recently and I replaced it with the Denso high torque starter. Huge difference compared to the stock starter. But lately it’s been cranking kinda slow. I’ve only had the truck a few months and it has the same batteries in it from when I bought it so idk how old they are. But I’ve been looking for some good replacements and I think I’ve found what I want. I’m curious to see how that starter will perform with a set of these Odyssey’s

Have you worried about the alternator being old and not performing like it should? I’m about to go buy 2 of these batteries. But I worry they’ll wear with weak alternator
@thehowardsgarage2480
@thehowardsgarage2480 2 жыл бұрын
No. Fortunately that’s not exactly how it works. They are fully charged when you buy them, and as your vehicle pulls power from the batteries, the alternator replaces it and while the vehicle runs you are basically running all of your accesories solely off of the alternator which is built specifically for the amperage draw that your vehicle consumes. So you won’t have any issue with an old alternator unless it’s already bad. Which, you will know if it’s bad because your truck will have a battery light illuminate on the cluster, and your vehicle will stall once the batteries have depleted their reserves.

Great question, and although I sold the truck I put those ones in. I had three sets, and they are all going strong. No complaints here….. another set that I’m happy with are the Duracell AGM 65 series batteries that I bought from Sam’s Club for my wives 2004 6.0 Excursion…. Those are 3 years old as well, and are great batteries for less than 2/3 the price

I may have to replace my Odyssey AGM PC925 "Extreme" battery. Which sources should I investigate for the Odyssey, keeping price in mind? I know these batteries are expensive. IIRC, they are available from Amazon for around $250. Batteries hate cold weather, and too often fail as a result. The question then arises: is it the fault of the battery or the alternator? Or......is something draining off the battery, and if so, what is the most common culprit? I don't want to install a new battery, only to find that the alternator, etc., is the problem. Also, in cold weather is it possible to use a Deltran Battery Tender to keep the battery happy during non-use of the vehicle? Our classic car might be driven once/month in the winter, so a fault in the charging system could be the culprit, even though the battery is in good condition. Also: Will a popular trickle-charger such as the Deltran prove to be the wrong choice for an AGM battery? I have had good luck so far with the Deltran on our lead-acid batteries, but I don't know if the Deltran will be the right choice for the Odyssey PC925 Extreme AGM battery, or if there are chargers that are better-suited for AGMs.
@thehowardsgarage2480
@thehowardsgarage2480 6 ай бұрын
Great comments, and I make it a habit that if I know I’m not going to drive a vehicle for a week or more to always hook them up to a trickle charge, or start them once a week and let them idle for 15 to 20 minutes. I assume the Delrin battery tender will be more than adequate for keeping the AGM odyssey batteries in good working order. Depending on how long you’ve had your batteries that you’re now having problems with, you more than likely have a short of some kind causing your batteries to slowly drain. Then, cold weather, makes it even harder when the batteries are even slightly weak.

I was already using the same type on my other excursion. The extra voltage 100% no doubt came from the batteries. I have tested 6 different sets, and am currently using Duracell Platinum AGM 65 series, and they are of no compare to the Odyssey. Also, for future reference don’t buy AutoZones duralast alternators for these trucks, they don’t last at all. And have very low voltage output.

That might be the only time I've ever seen a 7.3 turnover as quick as a small Japanese car. And that's saying a lot, because it takes a lot to turn a diesel over... And those odysseys, you'd think the 7.3 was a small engine. I can only imagine what these batteries would do if someone took four of them that would group 31s and put them in a tractor trailer. Even in my two hondas, the amount of cranking power is insane. I just put a 24 F Northstar in my 2013 Accord V6, and it cranks hard to the point that my headlights don't even dim, and I have about 1200 cold cranking amps at idle. At about 2500 RPM I'm getting 14.8 to 14.9 volts. And at dead idle I'm getting 14.4. enersis makes unbelievable batteries That's all I have to say. Consider me sold

They're just now starting to fail on me after being drained to 50 percent countless times and completely dead (literally 0 volts) multiple times. They crank my truck over faster than anything else. They've started the truck in -20 and no block heater. I had red tops at one point, and those pieces of junk couldn't even start the truck in 40 degree weather. I have been very impressed with them. Now I have to figure out how to afford them again.
